This still bothers me. Ridley Scott is such a fucking hack. The entire point of the movie is exploring what it means to be human and comparing/contrasting the replicants with the real humans. If you make Deckard a replicant too, not only does it open up a fuckton of retarded plotholes, but it also completely spits in the face of everything the movie was trying to say.
It's literally just some bullshit Ridley came up with years after the fact and shoehorned into his final cut. "dude wouldn't it be so fucking mind blowing if deckard was a replicant too?? lmao mind = blown! shut the fuck up I'm the director, bitch, I'm a genius and I know what I'm doing!"
Give me your mom's number, user.
ππ°πππ°π
Nude pictures of your mom as proof or you are a lying sack of shit and deserve to die by having your dick cut off and rammed up your own asshole
If you think really hard about what you just said, couldn't the point of the movie to be about how a real human and a machine made to be "more human than human" could be indistinguishable to everyone, including the audience?
If you reinsert all the narration outtakes as whole, the narration plays out like a futuristic Philip Marlowe story and dialogue, told through the lens of an unreliable narrator, Deckard believing he's human delivers an inner monologue reinforcing his personal belief that he's human, while the film lays out evidence to the contrary. Harrison's delivery of the narration is flat and bland because he's an unemotional replicant, or "cold fish" as his wife would say.
I imagine Ridley's direction regarding Deckard and the narration was like, "ok, so you're Philip Marlowe in 2019, but you're actually a replicant, but you don't know that you're replicant, does that make any sense?"
There is no comparison between humans and replicants and therefore no real questioning of what it means to be human if every main character in the movie is just a fucking replicant. It's not clever. It doesn't help the story. Both Ford and the screenwriter himself say that Deckard isn't a replicant and was never meant to be. It's not something Scott came up with until years after the fact on a whim because he heard some bullshit theory and thought it'd be totally rad to add that in.
Never going to post her online. Ever.
Do you at least tell her how pretty she is?
The Blade Runner draft scripts say otherwise unless you want to claim they're fabricated as well, in fact, Eldon Tyrell is also a replicant. The real Tyrell died in a "blackout" in 2013 (the idea later recycled for BR2049), the Tyrell Batty kills is his replicant, he chases J.F. Sebastian off screen to another room or level of the structure where the real Tyrell is in cryogenic freeze, J.F. explains the real Tyrell died or was seriously injured years before (two drafts have two different explanations), Batty then flips out and kills Sebastian.
There may even be some evidence that an additional Tyrell scene was filmed and discarded by the flow of the remaining contents, first J.F. Sebastian dies off screen, secondly, when Roy Batty boards the elevator to descent the Tyrell pyramid, his hands now have a stark pale white appearance when in the previous scene they were of normal coloration when he gouged out Tyrell's eyes. This suggests at some point that Batty may have submerged his hands in a cryogenic solution, much like Leon did at the eye lab. In later scenes, it appears as if Batty's fingernails have discoloration similar to that of frostbite when he's examining Pris, and he drives the nails through his hands trying to get some last bit of feeling out of them.
The whole movie feels incomplete, even with the director's cut.

I've read this and it's funny how it both contains the VO and Deckard isn't a skinjob.
Yes, I'm aware of that aborted plot point. It changes nothing about what I said. Deckard was never meant to be a replicant. It's something Scott shoehorned in after the fact because he's a pleb and heard some theory and thought it was super-cool.
Doesn't that make the story stupid though? If everyone's a bloody replicant then why is Deckard hunting them down?
Why is the entire police department playing along with Deckard being a real boy, ala Shutter Island?
Why is Gaff leaving clues about him being a replicant?
Why does Gaff of all people know what dreams were inserted into his skinjob brain?
Why is only the unicorn origami a hint about knowing Deckards dreams, when he also makes other origami like a stick man and a chicken that have no such significance?
Why isn't Deckard physically strong like the replicants? If you apparently built a replicant to go toe-to-toe with these superstrong entities, wouldn't you design it with the same superior strength?
Why have a replicant hunting other replicants at all when replicants are illegal because they're deemed too dangerous to keep around?
What purpose in the narrative does it even serve to have Deckard be a replicant?
Deckard being a replicant really makes no sense when you think about it.
Also, Rachel (a skinjob with human memories treated as a human) was a hot-shit behavior experiment in the film. Why would she be so fucking novel if Deckard and perhaps half the cops in LA come out of a vat?
Because of Wallace's dialogue in the new movie, believers in the deckard-is-a-replicant theory will retroactively create the excuse that both Rachael AND Deckard were both experimental units designed designed with the sole purpose of hooking up and having a baby.
But that doesn't make any damn sense at all either. You have a bunch of dangerous, homicidal replicants loose on Earth. Why would you send your experimental prototype Replicant out on this task if its true reason for being built was to father a replicant baby? Why build a special prototype, give it off to the LAPD, and then come up with some harebrained scheme to have that same replicant come back and meet your other prototype? It's fucking retarded.
Exactly, and that's because it's just some bullshit idea that hack Scott came up with long after the movie came out, and then had all sorts of post-hoc rationalizations on how it was "always his intention".
The real question is why does Gaff style on everybody else in the film this hard? For what purpose does he look like this?
You can shit on metaphysics but you can't shit on space Gucci.
What was the point of giving him blue contact lenses?
I think there was always supposed to exist some ambiguity or just suggestions to make you think about the possibility but he was never really supposed to be one.
Blue eyes are cooler.
Yeah, the movie was meant to make you question what the difference between a real person and a replicant really was. This was partly done by showing the replicants as actually acting "more human" than the actual human characters (compare Batty to Deckard). But the idea of just changing the entire premise of the movie and shitting in some hamfisted LOL DECKARD IS A REPLICANT GUISE is fucking retarded.
Tbh I think Ridley just went senile.
Senile isn't the right word, because this was back in like 1990 and he wasn't that old yet. Instead it's an example of George Lucas Syndrome. You have some success and think you're King Shit, and you do whatever the fuck you want while rejecting everyone else's opinions (or firing them and hiring yes-men) because you're the 2nd coming of christ when it comes to directorship and you know better than everyone else.
These questions kind of answer themselves:
Are you aware of how this sounds like you're just making a bunch of mental gymnastics and post-hoc rationalizations for why it totally makes sense for Deckard to be a skinjob?
Rape was socially acceptable back in the 80's.
That's why everyone is incel now.
That wasn't rape. He was just being a chad. This nu-male concept of "it's rape unless you get a signed waiver in triplicate expressing clear consent" didn't exist yet.
Because she killed his goat.
You can't rape a machine, Lieutenant.
Why do idiots keep saying replicants are robots, they're fucking genetically altered human drones, do people even watch movies here?
In the book they are androids but yeah, in the movie they seem more like bio engineered humans than androids.
They are robots though, just so close to humans they're almost indistinguishable.
cuz yer a fag takin it up yer bum
what if gaff is the replicant and the memories are deckards memories
Are they made out of metal or meat?
I thought they were genetically engineered from scratch, not modified humans
meat
This sounds like pretty good reasoning to me, it also serves that the "blade runner" is also an inside agent for Tyrell corporation, possibly acting subconsciously to report back any suspected replicant behavior to Tyrell before they receive it through official channels, much how Wallace seems to be receiving LAPD internal data in BR2049.
I also don't see the problem in making Deckard stronger and more resilient than a normal human, but not so abnormally strong that he noticeably stands apart or might suspect he's a replicant because he can open a jar of pickles with one hand.
That's a nice thought, wish I had considered it myself.
An alternative line of thought is that if Tyrell has an almost 1:1 copy replicant of himself, then perhaps Deckard is an extension of Tyrell with a partial transfer of experiences and memories from Tyrell. Deckard himself has a large collection of out of place black and white photos that suggests maybe his memory implants are from an older individual. Having some of Tyrell's experiences would also aid him in his job in "rep-detect" as a blade runner. There's some photographic evidence with a deleted scene of a photograph of Deckard and his "wife" that appear on a porch similar to the porch in the photo of Rachel and her mother that remains in the film. One could draw an uncle/niece connection between the ages of the characters in the photos if they were the same porch. An actress that appears to be the same one as Deckard's "wife" in the photograph appears in a shot of taxi staring strangely at Deckard as he runs past chasing Zhora.
They're suppose to be flesh and blood and implied that they are grown, but then you have Hannibal Chew that's making eyes, and J.F. Sebastian, in a deleted narration scene, is described as a "hand specialist", suggesting they're built piece-meal like Frankenstein's monster.
He didn't rape her. Yes, he got aggressive but she wasn't screaming or trying to run away and she eventually gave in to his advances.
They're synthetic but very close to the real deal. They're not just altered humans. One recurring theme is that none of the animals are real, so there is a distinction between biological creatures and the creations.
No it's fucking retard, making all these theories to justify all this is straight up convoluted fanfiction, getting into Holla Forums tier retarded Metal Gear theories.
...
t. butthurt subhuman-IQ that can't join the discussion
There's an interesting deleted scene where Deckard visits Dave Holden in the hospital, the scene cuts back to Bryant and Gaff spying on their conversation. There's two monitors on the wall with a feed from each's perspective looking at each other, as almost if directly from the eyes. Is Dave Holden also a replicant? Deckard comments on how lousy a cop he thinks Gaff is, yet Bryant is seemingly prepping Gaff to be his successor over Holden and Deckard. The scene implies Bryant and Gaff are the human handlers for the replicant workhorses, blade runners, of the "rep-detect" division.
This discussion always seems to boil down to
Blade Runner had a simple plot with interesting themes around it. All this speculation just complicates things far more than it should be and buries down the themes further and further. Pretty soon you'll get to the point and say the whole movie is a replicant or whatever and that it's all just implanted memories or something.
Exactly this. It starts reminding me of that Battlestar Galactica shit with the whole "LOL EVERYONE IS A CYLON" shit-tier mystery writing. It adds absolutely NOTHING to the plot. It's a dumb twist Scott threw in later and did George-Lucas-tier recuts of the movie to try to "prove" that he's right. And of course he'll always insist that it was always the intention to make Deckard a replicant, just as Lucas will always insist that the prequels were always intended as-is
For the record the prequels didn't change anything. The stormtroopers were always supposed to be clones. The force always had this connection to midichlorians but he only managed to work it into TPM because it had thematic relevance there and it didn't fit into the mystic journey of the OT.
As for Blade Runner I'm pretty sure Ridley didn't change his mind but that he wanted it ambiguous and that he personally thought that Dickhard was a replicant. The original cut that was affected by studio meddling also had the happy scenic ending out of nowhere, was that his original intent too and by cutting it he went Lucas too?
You're memeing on me, right?
Where did you come up with that?
Not in the slightest.
That doesn't contradict what I said at all. The reason it is explored in TPM is because of the theme of symbiosis that film had.
...
Why does Deckard have orange eyes like her in that image
Because of the way the camera trick works. "Replicant Eyes" are achieved by shinning a light into the actress's eyes while filming and having the light reflect back. Deckards eyes only very briefly appear with the same reflection due to the fact that he moved over to her, stood next to her and looking in the same direction, and therefore the camera trick sort of ended up affecting his eyes too. Only very briefly, and not as much, because the trick was centered on Sean Young.
Ah ok, thought it may have been Ridley digitally altering his eyes or something to further the Deckard is a replicant thing
That's a man's name, I'm not gay you homo
The lady doth protest too much methinks.
I didn't notice it was from their perspectives. Neat.
Nope, if anything it's just a very minor oversight; something they forgot to edit out in post. And it's then used as one of the main justifications for deckard being a replicant after the fact.
holy fuck he was always a replicant it wasn't just an afterthought
Because he's a fucking white male, we all know how rape-y they all are.
...
...
>>>/9gag/
Because allegedly Ford and Young hated each other's guts with a passion. So did Ford and Scott as well Scott and the producer.
T-they weren't acting??!
It was quite literally an afterthought. I already explained why the only time Harrison gets the replicant eyes is because it's during the one time he walks into the frame right next to Sean Young. You can even see that the effect is less-so in his eyes because he was only catching a little bit of it while it was focused on Young's eyes. Don't be fucking retarded. You're just grasping for straws and finding little easily-explainable bullshit to justify a retarded ex-post-facto decision

Do you think she was built for fucking? Maybe she can't say no. That'd what I'd do if I was Tyrell making android pussy.
Do you think Tyrell had been grooming his niece for this all along?
He was a rich, seemingly single man with no children. He absolutely was.
If she can't say no then it isn't rape.

What'd I'd like to know is why this track went unused. There's a perfect scene for it and instead they went with a mostly silent synth track.

Because robot women have no rights, and that's why they're better than real ones.
Comic books and animu also had a lot of rape too in the 80s and early 90s.
It seems that without their containment zone, Neogaf is free to ruin the rest of the net.
Whoa , I've seen this movie a zillion times and this is the first time I've seen her garter belt and sweaty tit. This must be the European version or something.
where is this from? i remember renting the old extended cut VHS before the 1991 director's cut, pretty sure this wasn't on it. even the scene it fades to at the end doesn't ring a bell.
Blade Runner has the best waifus. Rachel and Joi are in my top ten list.
IIRC that's an alternative cut they didn't ultimately use.
I get the feeling that this was made/finished after the release for some reason, like the blush response track on the same "OST". The silent synth track is a better complement to the scene than the song, which is more standalone, in any case. song β film score
I dunno, maybe I'm kind of a pleb and want characters to have distinct musical themes. If I were Ridley I'd have added it in the final cut.
There's a bunch of deleted and alternate scene clips on the bonus discs from the 5-disc release. I've been using a fanedit called "the version you've never seen before" as the basis for ripping the clips seen in >>951819 . You can probably find a torrent if you look around, the editor used the 1992 Director's Cut as the base, for which about 40% remains, and used the available alternate and deleted scenes to replace around 60% of the film.
Except the scripts also have ending scenes, now it's possible that early in the production process the ending and voice over changes were requested and written in, but there exist a fully produced drive-away scene with Deckard and Rachel that could have been used instead using leftover stock footage from The Shining for the happy ending.
io9.gizmodo.com
I also noticed something interesting about the first deleted scene of two in which Deckard visits Holden. When Deckard walks in during the first visit, Holden is reading Treasure Island. In Blade Runner 2049, when K is first confronted at gunpoint trespassing in Deckard's hideout, Deckard references Treasure Island with the line, "you mightn't happen to have a piece of cheese about you, now?"
That's pretty fascinating. I don't see how Treasure Island connects with the themes or motifs of the film though.
Probably some neat reference for those super autistic fans.
oh for crying out loud

Lowest common denominator and all that. It's no wonder Reddit loves this shit. That's proof Reddit brought down culture so much it'll take forever to get back to the pre-leddit days
Was around long before reddit, will be around long after.
Sounds like you answered your own question, user.
Where the hell can I watch the other cuts of Blade Runner? Almost all the blu-rays and DVDs I find are just the Final Cut and I can't seem to find any good torrents. Do I really need to shell out next to Β£100 on some out-of-print collector's edition release, just to watch the versions without the green tint and stupid Unicorn dream sequence?

All this nonsense of course begs the question: why not just make the fucking robutts easily identifiable via a genetic marker, or blood factor, or birthmark since if you try and remove it you'll just leave a scare that is as damning anyway? It would work even better if you secretly made your own "undetectable" replicants who everyone would dismiss since they don't have the markers while making any rogues of the regulation models very easy to track and apprehend. Why the convoluted bullshit?
The long and short is because leftists have run science fiction since they gutted the pulps. None of their concepts are going to be a meticulously thought out scenario describing in detail a fictional world with consistent rules. That isn't how the left works, that isn't how kike publishing houses or hollywood works, and that isn't what they want. They want narratives that support their worldview popularized to the masses with enough glist and glammer to sell them. Or barring that a bit of slock or decent films to support their retarded pet projects.
As long as these shits dictate what is published and filmed we'll have to deal with both shit and individual works which are full of holes because no editor is cleaning them up and the originator doesn't care for anything except his "message" and his shekels.
This is why random fuckers on the internet make up stupid fan theories more interesting than anything that is "professionally" released in their free time but you can't get out anything except through Baen Books.
linked video is straight from the horse's mouth
You do bring up good points, some counter thoughts.
The assumption with the Nexus 5 and earlier generations is that their general behavior is such as they appear autistic or without emotion to the average human, they're just literal flesh and blood robots so visual identification concerns aren't necessarily the foremost concern of the manufacturer. The marketing department may also assume that people don't necessarily want to be reminded of the fact they are slave laborers or autistic drones with easily identifiable marks.
The Nexus 6 are a relatively new product in the time of the film, and the models that have begun to go rogue have been online for several years, physical identification may have been implemented in the meantime as a countermeasure, but Roy, Leon, Pris, and Zhora are all between two and four years of age, Roy being the oldest and closest to the end of his lifespan.
The Nexus 8's in BR 2049 have serial numbers embedded below the pupil of the right eye, but as evident by at least one of them, she was willing to pluck her eye to remove the identification tag, which would be the case with any sort of tattoo or physical marking where skin or limb could be removed.
Genetic marker, blood factor, DNA - realistically, these seem like the best options. For the sake of argument, perhaps the ability to cannibalize off-the-shelf replicants as sources of human compatible blood and organ donors.

I think that you're forgetting that in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, there's a police station that Deckard visits that is entirely run and staffed by escaped Replicants posing as officers and detectives.
Wasn't that just a setup?
Was it? Maybe it's time for me to stop being a fucking pleb and finish reading the book.
I've started watching this but the version floating around on public trackers is kind of shitty in quality and doesn't seem final. If you could upload your copy to mega it'd be quite appreciated, getting invites to private trackers is a drag when you're kind of a loner. This edit seems really neat and is exactly what I've been looking for.
The only release was labeled "beta" and while the poster made some followup posts about progress on a final edit to his version, he never posted an updated version and hasn't been active in two years.
I think the rip should be decent quality, if it's the same rip I read a description of on the project thread then ripper de-interlaced the frames properly and encoded with sufficient bit rate. I have the uncompressed DVD version, but at 4.6GB in mpeg-2, and nothing has been de-interlaced, so I don't think the rip would look much better.
If you want to upload a screencap from the rip I can provide a cap from my copy for comparision.
Aside from the base footage taken from the Director's Cut and Workprint, the deleted scenes and dailies and most of the other clips are sourced from dvd resolution scans of beat up materials, so they were never going to look great anyways.
That's such a huge shame.
Well, the rip I found was H.264.
PKD Replicant: Soulless test tube babies designed to be workers, soldiers, and prostitutes that only get to live a few years as slaves. Th
Scott Replicant: Purpose built replicants in the form of a grand eugenics experiment. They are "more human than human" in the sense that they are stronger and faster than humans.
PKD Deckard: A human being who has become just like the replicants he hunted for years, which has caused him to retire. Wants a real doggo so that he can have something real.
Scott Deckard: Former Blade Runner who might be a replicant with the memories of gaff, as part of a Tyrell Corporation/Police project to produce "Replicant Blade Runners"
In 2049, Deckard and Rachel are apparently part of a "self-replicating replicant" program by Tyrell, and the mystery is finding out who their kid is. Of course nobody gives a fuck about this, because its blatant hackery that was
already done twice
The easiest move in the book is to make a movie about the kid of a hero, but it makes the audience feel old as fuck, even if they're 7 years old and just watched the first indiana jones movie right before watching the newest one.
Looks the same other than your player saved the screencap without applying the aspect ratio adjustment.
A 2gb h.264 rip should be near 1:1 copy of a dvd5 mpeg-2.
Oh well, what I was really hoping for was a final version. Still, it's pretty cool how different it is from the final cut.
