Street Fighter V flops because of the lack of content, especially in the SP department

How do you make a fighting game where the MP portion is the attraction to casuals and normalfags while making sure everything in the game is good enough for skills to pass over to other fighters?

Fuck the casuals and make fighters like Third Strike and UNiB

Do you want the genre to die like RTS games user?

I would almost rather see them die than going full E-sports like SFV is trying to do.

But why?

It's a balance between casual games and tough games
If everyone want to be The One then you will end up being a mess
If you want to be tough then the genre dies like a bitch, if you go soft then you never progress and it never gets good like shooters

It isn't going to happen. The multiplayer aspect of fighting games, by their nature, will be off putting to the "casual". Since there will always be a skill gap which, to move past, you need to invest a lot of hours, intelligent practice, and research. This precludes the "casual" user by definition.

Rising Thunder took a crack and it seemed like a successful way for SOME people (there were a lot of people who said something like "I thought I was bad at fighting games, turns out I was just bad at inputs"). But that was killed before it left alpha so who knows if it would have worked out.

I just don't think it's a problem with a solution since, as I pointed out, it's an internally contradictory goal.

Rising Thunder was purchased by the same Chinese company that invests in League of Legends

you can be sure it will return in some form and possibly league of legends themed

Because then you end up with a colossal shit fanbase like League of Legends with commentators trying their hardest to be ESPN and players being ejected for being problematic. The FGC is full of enough faggots already; the only way to make it worse is to go full E-sports. Trying to appeal the tournament scene to casuals just ends up with having the games be worse.

I just want good fighting games.

Tekken 7 is out? And who but autists care about the FGC? It's about having fun retard.

I just want the casuals to leave. Why is that so hard?

You can ignore all of that shit and still play good games you know. At worst there's just more shitty players in ranked.

Tekken 7 isn't out but soon™.
Also, it's not about the FGC, it's about keeping the genre alive by attracting new people who can start to integrate to multiple fighters.

Why?

What about KoF XIV? Are there any issues with that game, besides being PS4 exclusive, or is it still going strong?

Its dead, Jim.

Filtered

do you think the people making them care?
they want that money

yes, let the casuals leave, thats about 99% of the people who want to buy the game
please tell me how a company is going to invest resources into a game so that only you and the other 'hardcore' people can enjoy it

SF is still "king" of the genre even if it is stagnant as fuck. Here's hoping KOFIV shakes things up, but I'm not holding my breath.

...

Attraction to casuals is what ruins every single franchise. Like it or not DotA2 is one of the hardest games to get to know and its one of the most popular games being played.

Nothing positive has ever come from making a franchise more casual.

Why does MP have to be the main attraction for everyone?

It has chinese investors behind it. There will be a PC release.

Some people are still perpetuating the PS2 graphics meme even as the game's gone gold now, more sensible people are hoping that with how terrible the auto-combos are that casuals will end up pushing themselves to learn how to play properly and get real damage.

Have fun in your elitist bubble Jim.

You need a reality check user.

Have a simplified control scheme as well as an advanced one. However, any leaderboards will filter scores by the simplified control scheme users and the advanced one.

Casuals can fight among themselves at who is the best at being casual, and veterans don't have to get mixed in with them and get annoyed at these scrubs

The whole schtick of fighting games one side fighting another, so it's naturally an MP genre.

???

As long as the game starts incentivising those good simple mode players towards the advanced mode then sure, but I feel like there could be more done.

Oh, to have shit taste again.

Then stop trying to appeal to casuals and focus on making a good fucking game before anything else. You'll get the casual market anyway if your game is good enough and marketed enough.

RIP game

amazing truly you are the dankest memer

But if you're a person who just wants to buy the game to play the arcade mode, why is that a problem?

Not shit taste, your scene is just dead as fuck outside of Japan.

But they're already doing that, I mean failing dearly at attracting casuals despite adding mechanics for casuals to get in while retaining the mechanics good players like.

I just don't see what your point has to do with Dota 2. DotA All Stars became insanely popular because of piracy in poor countries and internet cafes. It was a matter of circumstance, holding its ground and smart design decisions as its life went on.

Nigger, there haven't been good new fighting games in a while, and it's because of adding mechanics for casuals that this is the case.

Then you are retarded.

You don't even support your own argument you fucking retard.

It HAS to be done. There is no way you can combine casuals and vets together without vets leaving because the game rewards shitty players by playing the game for them.

And because casuals want instant gratification, making the combos that simplified mode offers turn out to be ineffective against vets would bore them quickly. Maybe don't offer a leaderboard to the people who use simplified mode at all. And if people want to be matched up with advanced users, than advanced users have to opt in.

Basically, advanced users get the competitive leaderboards where as casuals stay where they belong. And if they want to be noticed, they have to WANT to be noticed and put EFFORT into it

i feel like we're on the cusp of the next fighting game crash sometimes

but then i remember FGC-wannabes don't mind getting bullied by capcom and other publishers and JUST KEEP BUYING the fucking games

I know it's b8, but…

Flower Porn?

No it doesn't. Every time it happens the game dies.

You literally quoted everything supporting my argument

KOFXIV is very likely to come out on PC.

Then why make an additional post?

Hope :(

*PS4 Console exclusive
It'll be on PC, but probably not until next year.

This never actually attracts casuals, at least not in the long term. Allowing them to do all the moves with simpler inputs doesn't make them any better, they just have more tools to work with that they still don't know how to use. If anything, giving them more tools right off the bat is detrimental long term as they'll just be more confused, needing to learn how to learn to use more things right off the bat, and may get frustrated enough to leave. Working within a limited and more difficult control scheme, while initially daunting, forces one to make good use of the options readily available. You can learn the fundamentals with nothing but normals, and typically you learn start to grasp them before you learn the special moves and how to use them correctly. A little bit of an execution barrier is often necessary to provide a better experience even for casual players so they don't get abused by fireballs by a guy of equal skill level just because he can more easily spam them.

Are you saying that movesets need to be unlocked?

Of course not, then it wouldn't be an execution barrier.

bunch of games have tried to do that, hasn't really worked

even a casual doesn't want to press one button only for entire matches

...

You mean pirates right?

No, Mexicans, BRs and Chinks.

so, pirates

You'd think so, but the sale data for the other KoF PC ports don't lie

You really don't understand, it's not about ability that makes a casual, it's intent.

You can be bad at games, but if you want to git gud, you're not a casual. A causal will drop a game if he's not willing to git gud at it. A casual will chiefly WATCH OTHER PEOPLE PLAY, rather then play, not out of interest in the game, but rather for the person playing it. A casual makes poor company, does not get the joke and lets media drive him around from cause to cause to fad to fad.

You don't want a casual ANYWHERE near a hobby.

In the words of Rare:
"Killer Instinct: Season 3' has seen record engagement across Xbox One and Windows 10 since it launched on March 29, making March the best month ever for the franchise with more than 6 million unique players"

That said i think it became very mainstream on the internet once it came to PC, and with the free play model it has a lots of players.

KI is also on stage at EVO again has it's been since it launched, the reason you can't talk KI on Holla Forums is because it attracts unsolicited opinions on Windows10, the second reason is that most of Holla Forums suffers from amateur elitism and will only discuss SF and pay little to no attention to other games.

that's a funny way of saying 'mexicans"

Cute animals. I enjoy Pokken but it seems like everybody decided that it's not a real game and no-one's allowed to talk about it, even though it sold a lot.

I'm just happy that GG is growing.

Isn't pokken just a slightly upgraded smash brothers?

MKX is a sleazy piece of shit full of microtransactions and disc-locked content. The FGC is hypocritically killing KI even though Iron Galaxy really bombed with season 3 (shitty grapghics and guest characters out the ass).

Namco is killing Tekken. They're doing jack shit with FR, and only the Japanese and Koreans are "enjoying it." Tekken is almost impossible to get into for a new player. Vanilla 7 was a disaster btw.

9/10 new people aren't going to play the new GG after beating the story mode. It's way too hard for new players.

You need to make a fighting game that's easy to get into, but hard to master. It needs to reward you for learning a high-risk, high-reward character, and have some kind of balance.

Third Strike was terrible because the balance was shite, and the community is full of unlikable autistic faggots. The revival 5 years ago was a complete joke because the fgc push people away from 3S.

Hope you like waiting 2-3 years for a console release while the Japanese and Koreans (as well as a few fgc faggots from SoCal) enjoy Tekken 7.

This was destined to happen because Capcom, NRS, Arksys, Lab Zero, and Namco got out of hanf. The FGC killed fighting games with its own retardation.

I don't know. KoF XIV still looks like an ugly piece of PS2 shit to me, and I tried to look past the graphics. Some of the new designs out of Iori are pretty fucking dumb (Robert looks like a pedo).

And the pc port is going to be a piece of shit. Guys, I'm really trying to be optimistic with SNK, but this is a company that gave no fucks about making good games for years. Shit, they ruined the Samurai Shodown franchise with Iroha from SS6 and Sen.

The ironic thing about KI is the fgc is trying to kill itr because of the SFV faggots who are in denial that SFV flopped.

KI is one of those games I really to want learn and get into, but it's so hard to find a decent group of people that genuinely like it and good guides out of KI-Infil (sadly, KI-Infil still lacks some info on certain characters). Despite that quote from Rare, season 3 is more of a mixed bag.

No, its dumbed down tekken.

No actually. Its one of the few games they pay for.

I'd be happy to join you guys if pc were to get revelator relatively close to launch

I'd be skeptical with Arksys PC ports. They've been pretty bad.

never ever

Sign's port was better than the console release.

How so? The port is on my wish list for a sale because I want to learn Zato, Potemkin, and Bedman for Revelator.

It's nothing like Smash Brothers at all aside from the inputs for specials. It's more like

But people are actually playing it. Maybe it's a good thing the FGC doesn't care about it?

Good performance, good graphics options, good netcode, less input delay, no stage-related framedrops unlike the PS3 release.

I'm okay with this too. The fgc ruined a lot of games.

You've never been in the 8/v/ FG steam group I take it. They talk about anime games the most

But that's the thing, casuals still play all those MP games that are supposedly extremely hard to master and have tournament scenes so why can't fighting games have the same luck? What needs to be done differently?

Pokken got most of its sales from children. The competitive side of things is really poor with terrible balance and mechanics that don't pass over between games that well.

I'd play KI with you depending on your region

CEO has ~250 entrants for Pokken but because the game is so shallow outside of a few characters I doubt half of those people remember they registered for it.

I'm glad you think so too.

But someone is running these people from behind the curtains.

Blame the cliques in the fgc for "behind the curtain" shit. The SoCal Tekken/SC/VF* crowd ruined 3D fighters by hogging frame data people could have used to improve and expand the community (god forbid Aris lost any weed money. Fuck that fat manchild). Also, tier-whoring will kill a game in seconds (see MvC3/UMvC3).

The fgc ruined the fgc as well as fighting games (see the statements about Third Strike being shite). It's a community that does hypocritical shit like "we're not esports, and we want the community to thrive," yet it pushes new people away from the scene while craving that sleazy e-sport money.

*Actually, Sega killed VF. It didn't want to push VF out of Japan.

Its California. The commie state. These things are natural to them.

I didn't buy SF5 because it has 9 frames of input lag WITHOUT playing online. That's fucking inexcusable.

I thought it was 8?

Fighting games have always been niche. Fate of any niche game. Mobas are a dumbed down rts. So it's digestible for casuals. Want a "fighting" game to reach moba levels? Make power stone type games and push that.

I never thought I'd see the day where I prefer SFIV to anything, its basically marvel compared to SFV

USF4 REMIX > SFV

How the fuck is there input lag? You push the button on the controller, the console processes it. This is a fault of the TV's connection speed, and can be improved with Monster Cables™

It's because of shitty GPU/CPU limitations from the game itself to get 60fps gameplay. The input delay on the PC version is halved if you forcibly turn off v-sync. That's why people usually pick low detail stages such as the training stages in tournaments.

How about a cinematic campaign mode that will introduce players to the characters and get to know the world/stages.

It's not like I play Mortal Kombat and BlazBlue for the story. Baka

I believe in KoF14.

tekken 7 isn't suffering because it's not even out outside of arcades

On PS4 it's 9 due to the Ps4 having 1 frame of inherent lag on all games. I know, it's stupid. I literally cannot react to anything on hit the handful of times I played online. So glad I got to try it so I didn't have to buy it.

A LoL fighting game?
It might work, especially if Rising Thunder is as accessible as is being said. Also I'm of the opinion that ASSFAGOTS are a waste of good character design so it will be cool to see them in a decent game.
