man, i played a game once like that, but i cant remember what it was.
Then i got hype as fuck because i thought thats how it worked in skyrim, and turns out bethesda was still shitty.

back to WoW, little one.
except that I could just make a magical gem that covers you in wizard goo that mitigates damage and it allows you to wear whatever you want under it.

i spent a fortune on this set of armor that basically only makes me sweaty and gives me rashes, because it can be pierced by any random idiot who rolls a high enough number and/or swipes at it enough.
…is where you lost me, that was the point.
that isnt the answer to why though, which is why i mentioned that we are stuck deep in our roots and refuse to budge from them because it is more comfortable, that questions further "why", however.
lucky stroke implies both combatants are wildly stabbing and one just happens to get lucky and land a proper hit. Nothing stops a developer from simulating the natural punishment for such actions either, If you were to spar in a HEMA club by wildly jabbing about, your opponent (were he experienced) would simply hold out his sword, trap it when it hits, advance beyond your threat, and end you….or just wait for you to become exhausted from flinging yourself around like an idiot.
first off, that would be far more challenging than to just swing at something until it dies, youre acting like the proposal is that one single armor set is used across the board, and that the person in the armor does not move.
I see youve never fought in armor, its more common in my experience for the combatants to become too tired to carry on and call the match, were not talking about SCA or LARP here.
that isnt the point, the point is that we have the ability to move behind previous restrictions and develop a new standard, but it is not being done, and will likely not be done for quite some time to come, because we are so obsessed with staying in our safe zone.
Zelda already does this, its not as complicated, but in zelda bosses do not have health bars, and they have specific weak points, that game is certainly not niche, so using those same mechanics for a human is not so absurd.
