Films based on video games

Goes to show that video game writers are even worse than B-movie writers.

nope, best movie here. it's a simpler plot than the first game.

Kill yourself.

It fucking sucked and it being "red-pilled" or whatever doesn't make it good.

...

This is gonna be like clockwork every single time now, yeah?
Fortunately they're so retarded they're gonna run what they love into the ground just like they did with Drive, just a matter of time.

The Street Fighter and Mario movies were pretty trash but fun to laugh at.

...

...

I don't think I've ever seen a good movie based on a video game. They always completely mangle what I liked about the game they were based on and manage to be bad movies on their own merits at the same time.

If they were ever at least accurate to the source material while being bad movies that'd be something, but about all they ever have in common is the title and the most basic interpretation of the premise.

It goes to show that it's difficult to translate one medium to another, you faggot. How many movies based on books are as good as their source material? And that's not even considering that video games in general are usually story light by design.

Mortal Kombat is the best vidya related movie. It was so good that later games portrayed some of the characters(Most notably Kano) based on the movie.

Tarkovsky's Stalker is a good movie. Discworld-related stuffs are also pretty good, both live-action and animated.

Patriot Games triggered me, mostly because Sean Bean wasn't sodomized and there wasn't much of that psychological tension between Ryan and Miller, especially in the end where they scrapped that gun to the mouth pants shitting moment in favor of Miller, the highly trained international terrorist who went through a lot of shit being impaled through something by an out of shape history doctor who was an ex marine injured out of battle.

I'd love to make some movies and tv series out of the following video games: Legacy of Kain Defiance, Devil May Cry 3, Sonic, Mario, Dungeon Siege, Prince of Persia.

The Prince of Persia movie wasn't too bad.

Wasn't too good either but the chick was qt.

The silent hill movies were okay, on their own

If you played the games of course they are shit, games are an higher art form, this is what dumb faggots that want good movies from games dont understand

Only good ones I've seen imo

If you're talented and break the conventional limits then you can turn anything into an amazing thing simply by adding and remixing your own execution.

Even the game PONG.

No doubt, but that means taking liberties with the source material, which will always rub a lot of people the wrong way. You're begging to get into "A good movie, but not a good X movie" territory.

Additionally, while movies and books differ strongly in presentation method, both are solely story driven, whereas games are gameplay driven first, story driven second (theoretically). Since the story is often wrapped around the gameplay, sometimes in ways that don't make sense, there are completely new hurdles to overcome, in terms of writing adaptions. In terms of how right it's been gotten so far, I'd say we're still in the age where we're just filming stage plays.

u wot m8?

This entire movie

/thread

Holy shit those CGI bullet holes / sparks look like shit.

What the fuck did I just watch? Is this Hitman?

Step aside, boys

...

The Tomb Raider film is shit for the simple reason that Laura Croft didn't move with tank controls.

This looks like a cheap fan project. There's no such thing as a video game film with a budget, is there?

I like you.

...

I thought the first webm was about Max Payne

I forgot that existed. Why did you have to remind me?

Honestly, I never played any of the games, but what the fuck was this movie even about? It made no sense.

Bad memories are reminder of mistakes which helps to reevaluate your future actions.
Here, have another one

It's true that you can learn from other people's mistakes, but nobody sane is making these mistakes in the first place.

These moves are already the evidence, showing the repeat of the same error.

Silent Hill 1 was good on its own, game lore aside

Revelations was absolute garbage, even in the films' universe

Its really the only good video game movie, and thats mainly because the source material is "special".

It doesn't even require a huge budget. Hitman movie needs to be something like imdb.com/title/tt0482571/

hitman was a shit game series anyways. I dont know why anyone likes em

Splinter Cell was always superior in every way

We'll never get a Rainbow Six Film or Splinter Cell film ever…

splintercell.wikia.com/wiki/Splinter_Cell_(film)

also slashfilm.com/thief-movie/

oh fuck, I remember that preview being on the Chaos Theory discs… man why didnt that happen

They had their chances. And the old Sonic OVA isn't terrible. It's good way to kill 60 minutes.

Just imagine if we have a movie based on a David Cage game. We could have Movie: The Game: The Movie 3D.

...

The Doom movie wasnt that bad.

...

...

This sequence was the only good part of it. Everything else was garbage.

because it threw out most of the cases.

...

Bait but i will bite
MK for a fighting game had a lot of plot
And they fucked it up in many ways, some for the good (Aussie Kano), some for the bad (Benevolent Raiden)
Decent flick but not "good"

But shits all over the book (Roadside Picnic)
Confirmed for not reading the damn book, also Tarkovsky clearly took inspiration instead of remaking it, and he did it pretty well

:^)))))))))))))))))))))))

Everyone makes mistakes. Some mistakes are just far bigger than others.

And some mistakes are even bigger than the bigger mistakes.

Literally the only good video game film.

...

Literally Doom: The Kino

SEQUEL WITH THE ROCK AS DOOMGUY IN HELL WHEN?????

...

There's another possibility. The Doomguy is probably Karl Urban, and The Rock is mutating into Cyber Demon. Either way, The Rock isn't black.

Doom is Vidyakino. You just have shit taste.

Color of Magic and Hogfather both had live-action adaptations, I'm sure there were others too

Prince of Persia was good. Had to mangle to become more movie plot but I can't say there where major shitfest like max pain or alone in the dark

lmao

Still the best game-inspired movie.

But the Mario movie was fucking incredible. It was the perfect blend of smart references and a total re-imagination of the universe.

Every time.

Holy fuck am I triggered right now

Vincent and Claudia not being their original selves as is in the game was pretty disappointing. That could've been great to see in film how they interact with Heather

it just became another Resident Evil movie featuring lol pyramid head

I like Heather's design though. it feels faithful to the game

yes, if you didnt play the game or the movie did a case differently from the game with unexpected twists to confuse the people who played the original game

try Everything Or Nothing, instead.

...

All the Sonic adaptations have gone out of their way to distance themselves from the source material. Even the comics. There was one obscure japanese manga that covered the plot of Sonic 1 and that was it. Sonic has pretty good lore, but every adaptation completely ignores it, while changing the entire nature of the world and usually changing the cast of characters to be mostly OCs. Some of them have good animation, especially the OVA, which at least got the tone right, but I'd still kill to see a Sonic adaptation that actually respected the source material.

Raiden was already heroic in MKII, which came out before the movie. It's only the first game that has him as an amoral/evil god.

The bigger complaint is obviously decimating Scorpion and Sub Zero's stories, but even there I can barely fault the creators, since their stories are so far divorced from the rest of the cast, and would have required a significantly longer runtime to do properly.

Also, Ratchet & Clank was arguably better than the tie in game. Not the best movie ever but at least a 6/10 (which is saying a lot for a video game movie), and had a lot of fun references for fans, without mangling the story too badly. I can see why they made most of the changes they did, though I don't necessarily like said changes. Still pretty good though. The only one that is arguably as good or better than Mortal Kombat.

I agree, mario movie was awesome.

mario bros and resident evil were party gud

Man I hate that japanese actress with her flat as a board face, so fucknig ugly. Can't udnerstand how she gets work.

Haha that's not Everything or Nothing, you silly user

I agree- There wasn't an actual true to story in the Mario games back then, so what they did in the movie was actually good.

Man, the Kamen Rider Gaim prequel movie looks great.

There's an OVA that actually covers the story of Super Mario Bros. 1 pretty faithfully. It's pretty good.

They could have at least made Bowser a fucking dinosaur. Make it a cartoon, make him a rubber suit, I don't care. And if you're looking for a story, just read the manual for the first game. Bowser is a wizard who wants to take over the kingdom. The princess can undo his spell which turned the resisting citizens into various objects. I mean there's room to build there, there's no reason to change it so drastically.

That said I don't hate the actual movie. I just think it would be cool to get an actual Mario movie that gave a shit. The one we got is just so bad its good, and has good actors in it.

...

They're the same poster, fucking retard

For Hitman to work as a film it'd have to be a lot more lowkey, I think. A lot more low budget. Maybe independent.

Also, the film would have to be something more akin to a suspense thriller/drama where nobody knows who the Hitman is. You'd have to do the movie from the perspective of the target most of the time.

it could work both ways, hitman perspective or target perspective.

That is factually incorrect user. Mortal Kombat had plenty of story, the game just didn't bog it's self down with it and left it for title cards and closing cards.

From the perspective of the target that would be awesome holy shit

You guys fucking stupid or something? Here is your movie in a 3 min clip. A real hitman movie would have this sort of intro plus a huge overarching sort of something isnt right type thing

sorry I am tired I mean he does an assasination but something goes wrong he failed to predict. Or something more interesting maybe

This is sadder and looks worse than that Prison Break vs Wesker fight

youtube.com/watch?v=ycXgJ2lDT7s

Once you get past the fact that it had almost zero connection to the Mario universe, it was, at the very least, passable.

I think John Gulager (the guy who directed the Feast movies) could make a decent Doom movie.

Did'nt he have some ''Canadian-Africain" in his familly?

...

...

Fuck you

Oh yeah

y'all niggas forgot about Silent Hill in 2006. I never saw the 2012 sequel

Aryan Birds

...

Reminder: razor blades + vagina.

Wait, it was barbed wire.

This. Compared to the likes of comic book hero movies these seem cheap by comparison. Most likely due to early attempts failing leading to diminished prospects of future financial support.

You guys watched the
House of the Dead movie?
It was by that horrible director who always directs games.

It wasn't good, but it was entertaining for just a tiny bit.

...

I watched it a few days ago, not only I can't believe a good videogame movie exists but I also can't believe Uwe Boll made an enjoyable movie that isn't Rampage I

And that was literally copy/pasting the exact choreography of Chris & Sheva vs. Wesker.

I liked MGS4.

thats like saying bugs life sucked for being red-pilled about jews.

Postal wasn't too bad as a whole, but it had some really great moments.

Perhaps you should consider that you can't put a game with 40 hours of plot in a Hollywood trash movie aimed at the lowest common denominator?

I've played plenty of games with better story than the average capeshit.

Also: fuck 3DPD

Although if someone did a 200 million budget movie of Homeworld I wouldn't complain.

Obviously. That's what they're there for.

It wasn't really a good movie. It just fit right because it never really took itself seriously much like the games. It felt like a movie was imitating the game. It's the same reason why so many people like the Postal movie.

Videogame movies are cancer

He's Samoan

I should say only by "blood" his dad was born Canadian

And he's Samoan because his Grandfather was Samoan

It is pretty funny how people say JRPG's have such shitty stories, yet they'll watch that cashgrab shit.

Why can't I play a good lewd game that is actually a game and not a fucking book. Not porn, just lewd.

There's a bunch of lewd games on Vita. Ar nosurge is just as much of a JRPG as it is a VN too.

Sauce on that last pic?

Why fight it?

I already knew we had SK and Monster Monpiece and MoeChronicle and Dragon's Crown and a really butchered DOA.

Still waiting for a decent price on MM and MC

But that's all I have found so far.

The Rock's father is black, his grandfather Samoan. And his cousin is pure shit.

I thought his cousin was not a good guy
Not a bad guy
But THE guy

God he's so bad cutting promos

Is there a way to play DT2 uncensored and in English?

You're right, Street Fighter II didn't have a great story, but why is Scorpion on there? He wasn't in that game.

Danganronpa:AE

Not that I know of. You could put the four pictures that got changed on your Vita and look at them if you see the altered ones in the game or something. This is the only good one unless you like really young retarded looking lolis though.
