As a result, 54,000 - almost half the people who made the exam (which is over a 1.4 million) did not pass the test. As a result, the Ministry of Education removed one of the rules which is "not criticize human rights" (or else its an automatic fail) for subsequent tests, stating they want to uphold free speech, which sent SJWs on a salty fit, since it meant fascists and racists could now pass the tests.

All the values an integer number can take exist between 0-9 and they can take any place as units, tens hundreds. etc.
Taking a ten from the tens and giving it to an unit to subtract 6 from 3 doesn't change the value of the whole number with the sum of it's components, thus the number is technically the same, but now, graphically able to subtract 6, repeat with tens and hundreds if necessary.

After looking at the video for a bit and wrapping my head around it, I think I understand the point of common core math. Simply put, its designed for the grader's convenience.

One the common issues with math is that a single fuck up in an equation could lead to a radically different answer. This is more apparent in questions like derivatives or functions. But the easiest way to learn from those mistakes is to look through the steps that were taken and see where you messed up and redirect you. This is why any algebra/calculus teacher worth their salt forces you to do the work on paper and not with a calculator, so you can see where your inner logic was wrong and learn.

But basic math of this level doesn't really have steps. Step by step instruction is difficult when the source of error is small and potentially mental. For example, how do you teach some kid that 2+1=3 and not 2+1=21. Of course this is an exaggeration, most wouldn't jump to extremes like this, but if your not prepared to handle situations like then you have bigger concerns.

However the obvious solution must have already been screaming at you. Teachers, should explain this shit. After all, everyone at one point didn't know math and we all had to learn it. This is where politics rears its ugly head. I won't pretend I understand why education is getting gutted in the spending department, but regardless of why, schools are getting less and less money. So automation is required. This is where I believe Common Core will be used.

Computers are dumb and can only understand logic and issue we people can come up with. And because no one can predict the inept, the computers need a system with multiple steps. This way, the computer will not only know if the question was wrong, but where and what the best course of correction is needed.

With this system, computers could replace teachers more easily.

Of course, this is all in theory. And I doubt any long term study or the integration with negative numbers. I'll have to study the system more, but for now it doesn't seem likely that this will be implemented efficiently until computers can replace the teacher.

I do a lot of basic addition and subtraction at work (I mean, a lot, I do inventory management with things coming into inventory and leaving all day every day) The "Common Core" method is something I do naturally when I don't have pen and paper on me since I'm usually dealing with a lot of numbers from multiple sources (X amount of Y material + W amount of Z material taken from an over all inventory of N from L location, stuff like that) So I not only have to remember the math but every component that went into the math in order to cross-check everything stays balanced. But that's when I don't have pen and paper, It's all Old Math when I do. I don't think it's wrong to make kids aware that they have another way of reckoning numbers if they need it but that definitely should not be the standard operating procedure when all you want to know is What one number subtracted from another is.
