The rib cage is missing a piece as it is. The artist is missing a lot of muscles and shapes (Like the back of the deltoid and the latissimus dorsi), the rib cage looks flat from a side when in reality is more curved, head is in a different perspective than the torso, there are two lines that should connect (In the groin) but they don't. And I'm not being picky, since a lot of volumes are missing and some don't connect correctly.

That artist needs to stop studying anatomy from "anime" and go back to learning the fundamentals before he starts doing commissions (At least from my point of view, I've seen worse artists doing them but my point is that he needs to practice more).

Also, try to do "realistic" humanoid proportions, and once you're confident with your knowledge start stylising. You'll have already known basic anatomy so you can decide which features to exaggerate and which to omit etc. Post a few sketches later to update us all! Personally I'd say start with perspective, as if you don't understand that then nothing you draw will ever have depth to it, all you'll be doing with the gestural and generic studies is learning visual tricks. Try your hand at whatever you get in that, no exceptions. Don't worry how it comes out or how long you're taking for now, just try to get it "right" in your mind. When you're done, post the picture you were studying, and the picture you drew.

The trick about lines is that the more of the line you draw in a single go, the better it'll look. The second trick is the same as with all art - drawing a ton of different lines is the best and only way to improve at drawing lines. I think Draw a Box starts with tons of line exercises, and that's free & online.

I'll give you a tip, user. Try to avoid drawing things like this with a bunch of disjointed lines. Try drawing as much as you can in a single stroke, it'll really make you think of what you're drawing, rather than just doing some kind of Connect the Dots shit.

Otherwise I'd say practice some anatomy and keep at it.

It looks okay, user. Good choice of colors but besides that everything still seems kind of flat. I'm not that good at coloring, so I probably won't be as much a help here as I was with the grass. Here's a similar looking image to yours, try to compare them and see what works and what doesn't.

If I would say one thing at all I guess it would be that the colors don't really transition into eachother as smoothly as they should. It all sort of jumps to the next color at the same general position, which isn't how light and shadows work in real life.

Its a good anatomy book that teaches you basics and more in depth methods.

not that guy (and am usually a requester) but try to get one of those mannequin figures (or even an action figure, rotate it around, and draw it at varying positions. Front part of torso does not (and based on varying critique in thread, shouldn't) have to be facing the viewer 100% of the time. You could start with drawing simple T-poses if you're into character stuff and once you get more comfortable with angles mess around with poses, while still preventing torso from facing viewer directly.

It will probably take multiple drawing attempts to capture it, but what should I know? I just look at art, not make it.

I'm not even going to go into it in detail, but I know for a fact you're not spending much time on everything you draw, since I deliberately first requested you draw these without a time limit.

Look at this, your drawing doesn't match up with the guy in the slightest. It's important to keep doing perspective and always keeping it in mind because, like others in this thread have said and even shown, if you don't build characters out of shapes then your drawings will always look exceedingly flat.

I'm guessing you picked up on the lack of armature or shapes through hearing somewhere that you should be "sketching the page" or "trying to avoid hairy lines" but the problem is that you're doing so before you have no idea what composes those figures.

Look at the pose here, notice how small her feet are compared to her head. Feet are actually really comparable in length to the head/face, but because there's such foreshortening they appear diminutive.
At this stage you're mistaking what people refer to as depth like this, for just simple two tone shading or rearrangement of your symbols.

It's one thing when someone tries and fails, it's another when a person repeatedly plugs their ears and refuses to listen.

Honestly you should finish it.

You enjoy drawing but you're not good at it. You have two options;
A) Git gud
B) Give up
Getting good requires time and effort. Giving up is the easy way out. Now, giving up doesn't necessarily mean you should stop drawing; you can still make marginal improvements from there. The only problem with giving up is that the draw threads are meant for drawfags who want practice. If you're not going to practice and you decide to post here expect some backlash.

The only other shit I drew between then and now was this R63 bladewolf stuff that I gave up on recreating I'M SO SORRY DRAWFAG THAT ASKED FOR IT. I just couldn't continue with it, I lost the motivation dude. and that dragon thing I just posted. I need to make some new shit so I can stop posting the same god damn stuff every time I come here, but holy hell, I can't find the motivation, man. Even that 10 minute drawing of the dragon thing took me a lot to get in to.

Hey, I need your guy's help. I've been drawing for a while, but always with reference of a portrait or person's profile. Now when I draw, it feels near impossible to draw something without reference. Did I fuck up? Pic 1 is something I drew months ago, while pic 2 is from a few days ago. Both took me the same amount of time.

It was mostly just drawing random people.

I think you just have to learn the specific skillset that is required with drawing from imagination. Stuff like constructive anatomy.

There are a couple of things that are a bit off:
- The knuckle you drew shouldn't be visible if the middle finger is up, since that finger covers the ring and pinky fingers.
- The index finger line continues to the knuckle when extended, because the muscles (extensors) show a little in that position.
- The thumb's first phalange is a bit short.
- The ring and little finger need work, ring has a weird looking last phalange and the little one has this curve that makes it look odd.
- I can't tell if the nails are like human ones but thicker and pointy or if their root is in the point o the fingers, might look into human nails if it's the former. either way the shapes are different in each finger.

Your problem is that you're making a rendering with little to no knowledge of value and shape, so the portrait has a lot of errors (Like the bridge of the nose having a strong shadow, with a similar value as the shadows in the low part of his cheeks) and when you draw anything else without a reference or guideline you get lost. Start with perspective first to understand shapes in a three-dimensional space.

Been just whole figures since still struggle in that aspect.

Well-drawn, but I'm not really a fan of hair on reptiles or reptile-likes, or any kind of beast race actually. 7/10 Kobold cuz hair, 10/10 drawin tho dood.

I see what you're trying to do with your studies, you understand the way bones are shaped and configured, but I think that in those studies you're missing the clavicle (And maybe the scapula, but that would be more relevant when doing poses from the back).
For example, in the drawing on the upper left I'm seeing you're connecting the humerus to the rib cage. The humerus is connected to the clavicle on the front and to the scapula on the back and along with the muscles in that area you can raise your arm.

You're getting better, but there is always room for improvement. I still need to study hands closely since they're still not good enough.

But yeah this one time. I just want to get this over with. I probably just won't draw mountains after this for some time until I want to study the structure and practice them. I've been working on this image for like 4 days now and I'm still clearly not competent enough for this, so I just want to finish it as well as I can.
