thoughts on democratic socialism? not barnie's social democrat version, but the actual socialist one

You don't really need to add the "democratic" qualifier to socialism; it's what socialism is fundamentally about in the first place.

how about we democratically ban you?

It's shit.

We will never be able to achieve socialism by democratic means.

terrible memes

Seems like a good enough system

plus, you are implying that society lives under some form of radical direct democracy, that is not necessarily the case

people vote against their own interests all the time because they're retarded. For example: I am from Kentucky. The most conservative counties in all of Kentucky are the ones with the highest rates of SSI and food stamps participation. Other example: poor people who want to abolish the estate tax on the super wealthy because it not gon' be fair when they get rich

Democratic socialism doesn't require direct democracy but it would need a system more democratic than the oligarchic systems we see in parliamentary and US-style governments

but why are they doing that my man?

people vote for dumb things because they don't know any better, belive it or not, despite a lot of the "conservative" voters somewhat knowing political and economic theory and being spooked as fuck becuse of it, most people just vote left or right because of some conflict with their feelings or because they simply don't know any better

this doesn't mean the democratic system is flawed, it just means the way it is functioning, the way it is applied is wrong

plus, in your first example of janitors and doctors you are implying that a doctor will have to lower his standars, and not otherwise

do you think that the people want billions of dollars spent bailing out banks or military ciontracts?

all that money could be spent somewhere else, perhaps developing technology so that no one needs to work as a janitor or as a doctor, either you want it or not we will reach a point where robots used for cleaning some place and for complex surgeries will arrive and replace humans, there would be no incentives to be either of those professions at that point

Anybody who opposes this is functionally retarded.

We need to work toward socialism by any means necessary. In some circumstances, the democratic process could be more effective than revolution.
