That's how most if not all skill-based movement systems came about. People figured out how to push it to the limit and then go beyond the designer's vision of how that would be used. If HL came out today, faggot casuals would complain about these people in servers and it would be nerfed or taken out. One man's exploit is another man's skill.

It's a literal case of 'jetpacks make everything better'.

You remove the faggy 'go diagonal and turn the camera a bit' part that's necessary for the exploit to work, and replace it with 'jumpjets make you go faster an further', and you are set for life.

You gain the clarity everyone with a passing interest in sci-fi will understand(it's a jet-pack, they hop to save fuel), and the controls become immediately intuitive.

You also gain the benefits of having the mechanic be grounded in a device that offers other capabilities, like sustained flight, mid-air control, or whatever else you can come up with.
