I've always considered it a mistake to leave halfchan alone. Even if we don't enjoy being there, and a large percentage of them are cancerous, they're a strategic "front" in both politics and culture. They present a barrier between us and the normalfags. A step where they have to understand something before bothering to come here, similar to how 4/b/ was once the introduction to halfchan, and normies who didn't care about anything more would wash out, and practically never go to other boards. However, those who do care will find their way to 4/pol/, and while we might not see eye to eye, they're lightyears ahead of pop culture. Halfchan well known to be the counter-culture, and is therefore an important entry point for normies.

After encountering some of 4/pol/'s jewtube content yesterday, I checked in on them out of curiosity, and it was pretty bad. It's clear that they're being shilled hard, even worse than we are. We've proven that we have exceptional influence and digging abilities, possibly more potent than theirs, but halfchan still has the controlling share of cultural influence by sheer volume. I suspect that we're the priority target to be "destroyed," but that they're the priority target for shilling, for this reason.

We might not get on with them, but it may benefit us if we can somehow help them. Plus, on some level, I still regard halfchan as some kind of ancestral homeland and hate to see it in this state, even though it's not directly important.

It's not impossible to reverse engineer the bots and it's also possible to detect them (but hard). They are able to solve captcha. Some of use can go into the details of this but we don't want to derail this thread or bring unnecessary attention to it. There are people out there very concerned about them that understand how they work completely. As was pointed out before, some knew about the project and when it was going to be deployed.

We were able to break the bots in a different medium but the solution would probably not work well on this site. The biggest problem is that its main use is to imitate the posters and bury information with a lot of realistic posts that provide nothing new to the dicussion. To get a feel of how it works look at this implementation https: //filiph. github.io/markov/ you can go on that site, click 'Make Donald Tweet Again' and it will generate a fake but realistic tweet from Trump. This is what they do on 4chan. They feed past posts to the markov bot and generate new ones. However, they are forced to give priority to posts from the thread it will post in (otherwise the posts will never be relevant). That's the weakness that can be used to break them.

The Tay project showed how quickly a realistic bot can be created and unfortunately since image boards were the ones that interacted with it the most, it showed these people not only that creating fake image board posts was possible but how to properly train a bot to make them.

We can help you guys come up with a solution for this site. When the bots break, they all break at once. This is important because when that happens you can get a good feel of the scale of the attack and can then nail the pattern and use it to stop new ones (how many bots per thread, what type of IPs they are using, delays between posts, etc.).

I think this discussion should happen outside of this thread however. Preferably somewhere that is hard for them to access. It can be a thread that is kept saged and at the bottom or it can be a thread where you guys talk in code (for example ROT13 all your posts; keep in mind that it's easy to detect and reverse encodings like hex/base64). Talking in code all the time is obviously not practical and affects the readability of the site. However, if posts start showing up on this site that are encoded in some non-obvious way, you will see how the bots start to break down. They will update the bots to account for things like this, but you guys will always have the upper hand and they can't move that fast (since their solutions are meant to be general and work on more than one site and they won't spend too much time on ad-hoc fixes).

Could always commandeer some dead board or make a temporary one to discuss if you feel that you need to be that secretive.

Take a look at this post . The bots use both a corpus (a lot of old posts/threads from a specific site) and current posts in the thread they will post in. In that post, the bot used words in the thread title to find posts from similar threads. The first sentence 'Look at the difference between the account of Trump and the account of wikileaks' was copied almost word by word from another post in which someone pointed out how if you compare Trump's and Wikileaks' twitter accounts you can see that Trump's has a lot more replies from paid posters. The rest of the sentence is made in the typical markov fashion, in other words, just make a sentences using probabilities, essentially, which words usually follow the ones before it. This is why the sentence structure breaks down and sounds like a non-native speaker. Additionally, because the corpus has older data, the probabilities for words after 'wikileaks' and 'twitter' map to things like 'dnc', 'clinton', 'democrats', 'shills', etc. That part of the message sounds 'dated' since posts from a few months ago were used to make it.

Note that markov bots are the simplest bots and that there are others that are a lot more sophisticated. Jigsaw uses deep learning for example.

The bots for Reddit, 4chan, NYT, Twitter, etc. are very similar. If you figure out how to break one you will be able to break the others but the practicality of the solution depends on the site. For example, it wouldn't make sense to tweet encoded message on twitter since most users would have to decode them using their phone.
