Vivian was initially the combined property of everyone who donated to the Fine Young Capitalists charity drive to nurture female talent within the video games industry.
When it became obvious that it would be difficult to prove who did and did not have the rights to her, a vote was held and she was released into the public domain. Vivian James is free to use in any projects so long as her general personality is unaltered.

I'm not sure I would call this spoonfeeding–the information is actually kind of hard to come by.

as far as i know no single person owns her. don't think we got her copyrighted (not 100% sure on that tho). vivian was made back on half by the people who later got banned for not being PC and moved to Holla Forums. that's why you still see depictions of vivian with the clover in her hair. the 14 year olds who remain on 4chan today had nothing to do with her.
