There's extremely few, as far as I've seen. Most have no class consciousness, whatsoever.
The few that do show some sort of economic awareness via social commentary typically fall into a few categories:
In other words, they follow many of the same trends, those that are allowed through the chain to be put on broadcasts, of regular say US media.
One exception, is that in the non-economically aware shows (slice of life, say), the imprinting of the 'hard work' mentality right alongside a drooling over the idyllic (and non existent) small business-style version that capitalism hides behind, is almost impossible to swallow sometimes.
tl;dr: Very few, if any, left-wing animes. Left wing mangas, though, I have seen (but can't recall the names of, so that's helpful isn't it).
Latest that I did see (that at least has workers rebellions shown, and actually goes through how they're set-up sometimes, even though it devolves into pretty much ally with the capitalist mafia and engage in the market as an independent faction), was Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
It's a horribly class-cucked version of manga that holds the mainstage at the moment in getting made into anime.
Seems to be an increase in more benign views of the military and building up ones forces (and less mystery-suspicion stories of them) after the changes to the article 9 of the Japanese constitution as well.
tl;dr: Iron-Blooded Orphans. Maybe.
Stand Alone Complex is actually pretty left. Every corporation is corrupt and tyrannical, the nationalist government fucks the poor, the Americans are totally villainous, that sniper dude was a flat-put International Brigades fighter, and the whole second season is literally about controlled opposition transforming into actual explicit socialist democratic uprising based around transhumanism and with the aim of permanent revolution.
Yeah that was left as fuck
From the New World is severely underrated.
Squealer did literally nothing wrong
That one animu about porn liberation
Besides that, animu is shit. Western cartoons master race.
Which western cartoons are any good?
Family Guy. It actually has subtle far left undertones to it.
If you're interested in Gundam showing capitalism to be fucked up, the original universe as a whole does actually have a bit of that with the energy production industry and weapons development industries both heavily affecting the political environment and causing multiple conflicts through profits. Of course, it's still an anime so it does it clunkily and rarely but it's something.
Venture Bros
Metalocalypse
Rick and Morty
Those are the top three that come to mind at least.

The new Gundam Unicorn asserts that the reason for the Earth Sphere oppressing the colonies is because they know that the Earth is a dump and as soon as the colonies achieve economic independence they'll leave the Feddies in the dust.
But of course they never criticize the system itself, just the corrupt officials that run it, and frequently pull the "both sides are just as bad!" shtick.
anime is inherently bourgeoisie and fascist propaganda

What makes you think this, is a leftist anime?
It starts off describing a society where no organization of society past mystical surface level is even shown, all hints of economic activities and production are done by slave species, and not merely talking about the food - but other humanoid species. It has (in the meeting with the librarian), a retelling of human history past the "start" in 2011, where capitalist society is barely touched upon and previous to 2011, merely "implies" that all the issues it later had (wars, conflicts, 'terror'- etc. all material desperation related individual actions, and general craziness) were solely due to the appearance of superhuman abilities and essentially telekinesis and matter manipulation by these few individuals (the capitalist society it destroys gets off without any charges against it), and all of this only leads to the creation of:
Hunter-Gatherer, primitivists (no mention of larger societal structure), empires of slave holders, and "The Scientists"; who later 'solve' it all by (according to them, since all of these crimes never existed previously and were not rising out of any condititions or pre-existing socio-economic - material - orders, and again according to them - conscience and empathy, also just did not exist): getting rid of 'useless' deviant people, controlling others minds, and genetically engineering people into becoming "better", hypnosis, etc. (and oddly enough, 'forcing' people to 'be like bonobos and free love instead of anger at each other').
It then has an entire episode dedicated to how "jealousy" is really the biggest reason for a lot of conflict, "bad minds" are the cause of issues, and all the bullshit brainwashing really 'does' have a sort of logic to it). It's essentially a theocratic feudal slave state, all history and notions of socialism, cooperation as a normal state, and all notions of revolution and views are from an upper 'caste' where - in even a later episode, it has a bloody monologue of one of the MCs as ranting on about how really it does all stem from the human heart, human consciousness, and human weakness and there's just no organization around that relating to equality within the economic spectre or a society which provides for all which could have anything to do with that; its only solution is gene engineering, and "Ethics Committees".
There is zero material analysis in any of this. The characters aren't even continuous in the portrayal of their intellect or reactions, and all of it just screams borgy to me. Some later chatter doesn't even make any sense. Like Saki's parents; talking about how they can't afford to have and keep electricity on, and they can't lay all the wiring - the work would be too hard, or there's not enough "village budget" for that; when they're a slave society. And they can move things, with their mind.
The only possible way, I could see, is if you meant it describes capitalist society - today, but yet it seems to be more (to me) as if it's a description of a capitalist society, by a capitalist looking at it from the top, not wanting to lay a single blame on anything bad in society on the conditions, themselves, and then goes straight back into 'it's all the stuff inside people that causes bad things - and straight up feudalism, and oh - the church, except oh no strict morals are actually also right'. Even then, I still don't see it.
The spiritual part of it acts as both a scapegoat, as well as an extension, of all this - as the second it has managed to abstract all your attention away from the thoughts of how this society is laid out strictly economically, it goes all into the head of the characters themselves. And the 'deviant' part are those not submitting to the hierarchy and 'riguorus training' of their own mind by the established church - as again, making society better is only done by forcefully controlling the mind and the feelings and emotions of individuals within them. There's no base, it's all in your head.
The general feel and 'idea' that I get from this anime, is that it is infact not in defense or for 'leftism', it acts as a defense of a fairly reactionary and conservative set of 'arrangements', for society, while reproducing (and re-introducing, in the fantastical, a defense and justification) some very orthodox religious anti-modernity, anti-progress and anti-change set of beliefs, that have always - always - gone hand in hand with the powerful.
It's like watching Tibetan theocracy through the eyes of the children of the rich, visiting from hard-class era England, with glimpses of them undergoing puberty.
Production quality: Good.
Content: Meh.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun
We have this thread literally every week guys.
Every week.
That being said, Shinsekai Yori is a good left-leaning anime, but it just pisses me off with Squealer and all that.
Squealer did literally nothing wrong.
if psg was about scanty and kneesocks would it be lefty ? i mean they do get fucked over by their boss in the end
Anime is shit and bourgeois af, kill yourselves
etc
cave paintings are bourgeois, and worse, lead to language.
What is left-leaning about it? Explain it to me, I'm honestly curious.
When the fuck is the BO linking to this board
Insight was filled to the brim with spooks.
I don't have the attemtion span to read any of that
That's why I specifically avoided saying Insight.
Crowds had a lot of liberal pacifism in it as well which got kind of irritating, but I think ultimately the message didn't suffer from it too much.
My Little Pony. They criticize racism and xenophobia, socjus idpol, and the second-worst bad future was a capitalist one.
What was the first?
Nuclear winter.
Commie pony.
Gundam Wing its so good
but really there are no "left" leaning anime.
Not even an anime with a character centered around anarchy.
There is a fan made comic continuation.
Thank me later.
Also, it would.
Would be more Statist though.
Re:Zero
I think you could do a leftist reading of Gatchaman: Crowds, though I'm not really sure. It goes pretty strongly in favour of direct democracy and bottom-up distribution of power, but it's kind of hard to extract a single coherent idea from any of that. Plus, the second season plays like someone's D&D campaign that went completely off the rails when the new player joins and decide to blow some irrelevant side shit out of proportion, but at some points it felt like a commentary on the Cultural Revolution among other things.
Ruirui best girl
It isn't left leaning anime. Squealer and telekinetic people are actually genetic engineered by the scientist so they are truly slaves to the government and don't have much willpower over their life. They literally believed that they can't afford the stuff that they need but in reality they can make anything with their minds now and don't realise that they are free to do anything as they please.
FUCK OFF
oh yeah well your shirt and iphone were made by capitalism so how can you be against it
these stupid cartoons are bourgeois
look at the business interests that owns them and those that create them and in what sort of nation
garbage like this is the worst of all. literally born out of bourgeois culture and all that capitalist merchandising.
all my clothing except some hats is created fairly even homemade. we've had threads about this years ago. i don't fucking use slave labour phones of ultra capitalist mechanization from foxconn whose condition of labour for the proletariat is so poor the workers literally kill themselves and crapple benefits through their deaths through the most massive and ridiculous profit margins and overpricing that exist. they are the worst form of capitalist. naturally some things are unavoidable like many devices but this definitely is. it's literally fucking cartoons. fuck you and never return here.
Nice job with your ethical consumerism. Be sure to keep voting with your wallet, I'm sure that'll make a difference. Meanwhile we should all live off cornbread and water and throw out any of our furniture that wouldn't fit in a Franciscan cloister. Because leftism is all about spartan austerity, right?
There's plenty of enjoyment to be had in anime, and manga. That the trend in especially later years of production is more and more in tune with the elite's view, is exactly the same issue you'll see in all profit related media industry, in every capitalist nation in the world. How strong the resistance is in the art world, depends on previously established networks (and things like having a set amount of public funding and investment going into arts and domestic production - regardless).
Which, might also explain why your typical neo-liberal and right winger loves cutting 'arts' and 'useless culture production' (where'd that 'muh nationalism and native culture' vanish off into it?) funding.
Some things are unbearable to watch, I'll give you that, but most people aren't that caught up in it to even notice it, and you can clearly see in some nations how their cultural output follows the business interests and domestic capital/government power interests almost as if play-by-play. (re: the 'great' timing of soppy 'hero' war stories, or the stories of the courageous pro-empire rebels, etc.)
Trashing all of anime, and manga, as if it's all like this though - is doing an injustice to the art and artist(s). It's not like the genre and style of the medium will in any way vanish or fade under a state of communism. Hell, you'd have even more of it.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure.
Why?
90% of Anime is Leftist.
