They don't know how to fucking stall or use tankmons correctly, They institute arbitrary battle rules that specifically benefit those 15 mons and basically make the better status effects like sleep, evasion, one-hit KO moves and the others worthless.

These same 15 you're talking about are only held high because of these rules, while the majority of mons rely on other tactics and without those arbitrary rules they enacted because they got butthurt that people with "weaker" mons were beating their favorites.

I go there once and a while for movesets and reccomendations (which get really fucking stupid to the point that you have RAPID FUCKING SPIN in a fucking moveset after gen 4 despite spikes and arena traps needing a fucking miracle and a prayer to fucking work these days), but their rules basically make the game unplayable.

Legendaries are one of the few things I would say have actually gone downhill in pokemon. I skipped many generations and when I actually got to playing newer pokemons I was pretty happy with the outcome. Still felt like pokemon, but with more stuff.

Not too related, but I miss the WACKY ZANY RADICAL 90'S ANIME MONSTERS vibe. The new SOFT AND SMOOTH CUTE MODERN ANIME MONSTERS isn't as awesome. There are still some new Pokemon I adore though. I just like the art direction of the first two gens the most; third gen was still incredibly solid despite being a little more soft and smooth, proving that the style can still be rad as shit. Just look at Swampert and tell me that that guy doesn't look like he belongs next to Blastoise and Feraligatr.

An example of mine would be Pidgey compared to Fletchling, or Vulpix to Zorua. The early gen mons have more detail while the newer ones are too soft and round for my tastes. Nothing wrong with liking the newer generations more, heck, I see the appeal and again I think some of the new Pokemon are rad as shit. I just prefer the old feel more.

Also to answer OP's question, I think it's either brand loyalty or people just adore the formula they have for it. Personally I don't care much for the fact that they focus on adding new Pokemon instead of new gameplay features. Look at how smooth and refined Monster Hunter has become and the new monsters in it like Malfestio and Kecha Wacha are legit top-tier and look like animals that could hunt and survive in the wild in our world. I adore the fact that Monhun hasn't really changed it's monster formula too much and that they all fit in the world together instead of clashing like Pokemon does. They don't even focus on adding new monsters. The thing they always show off is new gameplay features and the new monsters come secondary.

I think the Pokemon gameplay has gotten stale and it needs to be redone. Fuck the series is actually reboot-ready despite having new releases and continually getting new releases. I'd like to run around with my Pokemon and interact with them and the environment; make it an adventure/exploration/pet sim hybrid on top of being an RPG or something. Reinvent the battles as modern hardware can do so much more with turn based battles or heck it can even be converted to an action RPG.

I still adore the memories I've had with Pokemon and I love so many of the actual pokemon themselves but, the game just needs to do add a new feature that twists things up. Pokemon-Amie and the wireless features like Wonder Trade and stuff were incredibly fun and I think that was a step in the right direction. I'm just hoping they pull something amazing off with Sun and Moon that makes me love the series again, I guess.

Let's get this straight: No Pokemon doesn't need to change. Just like how no other game series needed to change to improve. Ace Combat didn't change from a simcade flight flying game to something completely different (barring Assault Horizon) between any game and yet most of the games in the series are must plays, with 3 of them being instant classics. All they did was refine the gameplay (sans 5 where the gameplay wasn't refined at all but the story made the romp worth it). Other game series do just fine with the setup they have, and with Pokemon if you want something different play one of the many spin offs, the main series doesn't need to be changed.

Look at Exeggcutor, Scyther, Kingler, Slowbro, and a lot of the other Gen 1 Pokemon. I loved those guys and they were all wacky, zany, and radical. You also had really tough looking Pokemon with the same style like Blastoise and Nidoking and I loved that.

Again yeah I agree with that. The spin-offs don't really have what I want to be honest, but like I said I think they can add more to the classic formula they have and make it funner, like I brought up with Pokemon-Amie and the improved online functions. I thought that was great fun.
No, not really. I'm talking more strategic action and giving each Pokemon a fighting chance rather than just a mash-attack-to-win action game. I find type advantages sorta annoying sometimes as, along with the "locked into a single place while you use one of your four attacks" combat, it makes some Pokemon beyond crippled. I'd like to see grass types blending in with the scenery for an ambush or water types jumping into lakes to take cover, or flying types going into the sky to prepare for a diving-attack, like the attack Fly is used. I also don't think it'd destroy it. I mean, Zelda changed a shit ton from it's NES days. Kirby became a more fluent action series. Castlevania became a Metroid-like game with fluent movement and lots of abilities instead of a basic "get to the end platformer", and all of those series have fans.

I really love the world of Pokemon and I want it to be more fleshed out. I'd like a full on roleplaying game rather than a simple RPG, y'know? I'm sorry if you take offense to what I'm saying, but I just kinda want a full-on adventure game with enough character in the Pokemon and interaction where players will have Dwarf Fortress-like stories to share. I think it'd be great fun and it'd really help players get attached to their experience, as well as being an interactive and fun game. Imagine going and bonding with your Pokemon and exploring and then going into combat; it makes it feel a lot more real when you've spent time hanging out in the world earlier and are suddenly jumped by a challenge you have to face. Strategically thinking your way out of encounters with deadlier Pokemon earlier in the game when you only have your starter and few low-leveled Pokemon would be fun as well, I think.

I already like the old style but I just think that we have so many games of it that a brand new idea would be great. Heck, keep the turn-based action even. Just make it feel more natural; I still have great fun with turn-based RPGs. And like I said before maybe Sun and Moon will bring something new to the tables that'll be really exciting and fun for me.

That is how it works. Might not give you them ALL immediately ala before aqcuiring a fishing pole or two(it even adjusts to where you are in the game, how nice!) or in special situations like mirage island there but it sure takes away from the fun.

We already got a Pokemon strategy game with Pokemon Conquest, the crossover with Koei's Nobunaga's Ambition series. It wasn't bad, but suffered from how plot progression worked and how after the main campaign all your progress was reset while you fucked around through side stories.

Just look at what has come out of Sun and Moon so far: You aren't some chibi player model in the overworld anymore but your full model, meaning everything will be up close and personal with better camera angles and better characters to immerse yourself in a more detailed world. Battles will have bystanders watching and passing by, maybe even wild Pokemon in the background (hell if they do something really fun and have wild Pokemon jump in randomly that would be cool). Pokeamie could be expanded upon even more, other Pokemon interactions could happen, etc. Game Freak is doing its own way of doing what you want, it seems, so why not just wait it out?

No it wouldn't. That sounds dumb as hell and it wouldn't translate into actual battles between other NPCs and players. There should be no excuse that a high level Pokemon in the wild would be beaten by your fresh out of the lab starter even if you were "strategic" about it.

He made up a problem? Everyone has different opinions. Someone might eat something and they'll love it, while to another person, it might be too sweet, salty, dry, or whatever. Same with gaming. Someone might have lots of fun with the simple mechanics of Pokemon but others might just want something more from it.

You missed the angry guy's point: He was claiming that once you enter a route every Pokemon available in the route pops up as a silhouette even if you haven't ever encountered that Pokemon.

Silloetted pokemon are pokemon you've SEEN, not catched in your pokedex. Now, you see a pokemon in another route, the silloette for that mon will pop up in other areas where you can catch it, which is also a function of the pokedex before dexnav.

If you CATCH a pokemon, you can select them for dexnav hunting. if you've seen them, you cannot.

No, no, I see what he's saying. I agree entirely that the 8 directional movement is awesome even if a little late; would've been great in 4th gen. But I think he's saying that it didn't impact the game hugely and it taking this long to get something that simple is a huge disappointment.

Anyways it's not really related, but I sort of miss being able to walk with your Pokemon. I'd like to be able to have them walk independently of you and be able to call them over if they get too far or command them to move around somewhere for you. Maybe a button could be set so, when you press it when the Pokemon is in front of you, you can enter a Pokemon-Amie thing to interact with it further? Have a little dialogue box on the bottom screen pop up to describe what your Pokemon is doing, sort of like what Digimon Dawn and Dusk did with the island thing or whatever it was.

Like others said it's been established strongly as a simple turn based RPG and I think that's fine. The speed of battles would be an objective improvement, meaning running into a Zubat wouldn't turn into a 5 minute affair just trying to push the run button. Not to mention it visually looks better to have games running at 30 FPS or higher.

user I know the point your trying to make but FPS isn't on equal ground as 4 vs 8 direction movement. Like I said the way Game Freak implemented it there was no improvement that came with 8 directional movement. Exploring the region wasn't changed, the game was still effectively grid based, grass tiles were still tiled and not shaped, the only puzzles that involved 8 directional movement were the roller skate puzzles. Very few of the routes were diagonal or had diagonal movement central to them. Luminose was better navigated through 4 direction movement. Hoenn didn't change with OR/AS dramatically and they didn't add many new things to take advantage of 8 direction movement. It wasn't an improvement, it just was there. Pokemon Colosseum and Gale of Darkness had 8 directional movement too, and those games accounted for it by designing the world with it in mind. Now with Sun and Moon yes 8 directional movement is an improvement because they're actually designing the game world with it in mind and dynamic camera angles in mind.
