Metroidvania where you choose between a sword, gun or mixed combat style and adopt perks to compliment your style.
It's a story of two vampires who separated because the MC's love interest hated to be together, but it hurt more to be away. Then they love interest is kidnapped by a mysterious evil scientist, and you must trek through a castle defeating a series of gothic horror themed enemies.

The final boss is your love interest, trying to die by fighting you. You can fight them and kill them to release them from their suffering or you can just dodge their attacks until they give in and resign themselves to living with you. Ideally they have every weapon and/or perk you have.

2D platformer, dodge mechanic, magic power ups/extra weapons like in ol' castlevania.
Some perks; your dodge deals damage when you have the sword out, you deal more damage when you switch weapons, repeated hits on the enemy sends them into a vulnerable state for a few seconds etc.
Enemies include; a knight that you defeat multiple times getting more mechanic or sewed on monster parts from the mad scientist as you fight them.
Male or female character choice, but it literally does nothing but change your model and portraits.

But people should generate content that they themselves enjoy. Like bands that produce the music they like instead of whatever's popular at the moment. If they enjoy their work, it'll show in the final product.

The comment on playtesting is correct, though. I have no idea where playtesters come from, but they have to be some of the most defective fucking people that exist.

The reason why these courses are "free" is because they take your ideas to use for themselves.

Dude, that's the first phase of any brainstorming session. First you cover the wall in shit, then you scrape off the most nasty-smelling patches, condense some of the promising parts, refine them, then you work the ideas into a doable project at last.

it's just like a workplace mandatory conference, with some industry bureaucracy paid-by-dues guy and his powerpoint presentation he made the night before while drunk. it all reads like a bullshit last minute college assignment.

oh, Finland. "free" as in everyone around you is paying for it. having education stuffed to the doors with people that don't belong there learning junk that doesn't improve them or society has great long term effects, I'm sure.

Why do these game design courses have to be so pretentious?

There is nothing pretentious here. Have you been in earlyer threads or actually checked the dropbox materials I provided?

i feel a little sad shitting on you seeing that you're trying to spread the education around.
but with honesty, if you really want to make a game, drop out. nobody I know, closely or distantly, who's done the gamedev college thing has gone on to make their games. the important things they teach can be self taught in a fraction of the time, and almost all of what they teach is educational fluff, padding, and unrealistic nonsense that does you more harm than good.
"those that can't teach" is a truism, do it for yourself or it won't happen.
