Fallout 3 and Skyrim weren't great, but I certainly ain't bitchy about it. Maybe I actually have a shit taste, or I just don't play much video games, but I'm still able to enjoy the shallow but fun exploration, simple mechanics, and unique aesthetics in these games. Haven't played 4.

I'm not sure if we're arguing because we seem to be on the same page. Though I sincerely doubt you've been a fan of bethesda for so long. To have experienced the gameplay of daggerfall or morrowind and not be abhorred by the ridiculous casualization of their games is ludicrous.

That's the problem though, that you decide to settle and say "well they're not as bad as x!"

But the problem is that companies so renowned as Bethesda set precedent, and acceptance of any sort is to accept it completely. Without complete abstinence from buying their games until the complex role-playing games of yore return, people will look to the great success and celebration of these games and look to them for guidance in their own creation.

To be honest, I think Daggerfall is not casual enough. I want to enjoy Daggerfall more than Skyrim, but I don't have much time to play video games, hence Skyrim is more playable for me than Daggerfall. Morrowind is still the greatest though. And even if Skyrim is shallow in term of mechanics, I still enjoy the graphics and presentation.
