What is the governor's balls and is this unusual and is it happening now?
No fucking clue what it is exactly, but I guess it has to do with the association of governors. Governors are techcincally not beholden to anyone, but efforts are made to get them to socialize with each other so as to minimize regional discord. This is a gala ball where Trump and his wife will MC, and he has promised to make speeches and announcements.
It is happening tonight, apparently they are having issues getting everyone in and seated to start the stream off, I would imagine because security is diamond-crusher tight. If i had to guess what it will look like, it will be a classier or more well-planned version of the ball Trump hosted on inauguration day. Trump went off-prompter there and I wouldn't bank on that here, but he is riled up against Hollywood and it's big that he's going head to head with the Oscars right after he declared no-go on the correspondent's dinner. If the ratings dip this year for the Oscars, as I'm suspecting they will, it could be a milestone night in the decline of traditional media importance and the rise of decentralized live content as king.
Also there's a ACLU subplot going on, they are the legal muscle behind a lot of the suing of Trump happening right now, and the "thing" tonight is "wearing blue to stand with ACLU". He might bantz it directly, should be fun.
I would love it so much if he too all the steam out of the Oscars with a huge surprise announcement tonight. I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would watch these award shows, let alone have a get together/party for them. I completely understand watching and having a get together for the Super Bowl since in those few hours you're actually watching the winner be determined. All the Oscars (and events like them) is, is just watching people/movies win awards that were determined to be the winners weeks/months in advance and now we've got a bunch of rich and sheltered pretty people go on stage, open and envelope and proceed to give blowhard speeches about what they do is so "hard" and "important". You could literally just read the results the next day and you'd learn just as much as you would if you had watched it live: people opened envelopes, the winner already won the thing in advance but they just didn't know, they gave a speech and everyone laughed and clapped like seals. At least with the Super Bowl, everything actually has to happen right there and you have an actual storyline (like what happened this year in the greatest comeback of all time).
