Probably ran at single digit framerate

Amazing.

wut

Oblivion had Distant lands on both console and PC
Seriously go look up oblivion screenshots

I can't even imagine

Is there a beta or something out?

Not that I know of, from what I remember from it the focus was going to be in dungeons

Ah, yes.
Oblivion's quality dungeons.

fuck. I need to play oblivion again.

well, it could work, I think

That's what I first imagined too

It would definitely work, but I can't imagine it being very fun.

I didn't think it was even possible to make something worse than vanilla Oblivion.

Play the same dungeon over and over ON THE GO!??!!

wait what?

There was a planned PSP port of Oblivion, but it was cancelled. These are screenshots from it, probably not actually running on PSP hardware, though.

...

I have an old EGM that talks about it, there was gonna be no open overworld. Only dungeons and the there would be some npcs that sold weapons and stuff like that. I think there was supposed to be only 20 or so dungeons based on different areas/themes of the main oblivion game.

Dont…… its not great. The deep as a puddle thing is true and i dont mean mechanics. I wouldn't mind even simpler mechanics than what oblivion if the world/lore was actually interesting or well presented. Also the world gets really samey real quick.

This happened to me with both oblivion and skyrim, but not morrowind. Why do the later games feel so copy-pasted?

Im not sure. Maybe cause later games are more mainstream and therefore more focus research driven. We need more auteurs in gaming.

still need battlefront 2 ps2 port for psvita

no, those are running on actual hardware.

Oblivion PSP has been leaked for some time, I think the newest available build is about 60% done. Looks decent. The general structure of the game was going to be there would be no open world (thank god.) Instead, the game would be separated into clear chunks, with the city acting as a main hub where you'd travel to other areas.

A friend of mine, Andrew Borman made a small video documentary discussing the game, showing it running on actual hardware and in an emulator (both the concept build and the farther along the completion line build that was destined to become the final game.) That video went up today, Zenimax media has already appeared to have taken it down, however. Cunts.

The game itself had visuals that looked to be similar to Arx Fatalis. The concept built appeared to have more detailed assets, but ran worse. Kinda expected. Otherwise, the game ran perfectly fine, seemed to be running at 30fps solid, even though it was an unfinished game.

Wasn't the open world the only good thing about oblivion? Dungeon crawling isn't very fun, and having a single main hub to get more fetch quests sounds like it would be a pretty pointless game.

Are there any other planned PSP games that got scrapped during development?

I find this stuff really interesting

unseen64.net/saintsrowundercover/

open world anything is the worst part of any open world game.

The porn mods moddability and DLC were literally the only good things about Oblivion

...

fortunately this was a different kind of game, it might have been good.

There are metric tons of scrapped PSP games. Although very few with accessible ISOs like Saints Row

That cpuld actually be an improvement. Imagine oblivion with actually well designed dungeons and no open world. It actually sounds good for once.

TES was always supposed to be a dungeon crawler. Then again, modern Bethesda is staffed with untalented hacks that seem unable to make a dungeon that isn't shit.

I wouldnt think the main bethesda team would have worked on this, so maybe someone with talent could have sone somthing good.

But there wasn't any combat or leveling system. Exploration and escapist fantasies were the only reasons to play it, like said.

The only way that would happen is if Bethesda passed it off to a third-party, and even then it would be a miracle for a team of Indians and Koreans working for literal peanuts to produce something competent though sadly it would probably still be better than actual Oblivion

sure, but we're talking about a different game here.

it was being made by a third party.

In what way is the combat and leveling system different?

Is this an emulation or actual game ?

I dont have a psp but im planning to get a new one, i dont know shit about portable gaming thouth.

I don't know, I haven't played it.

...

Its a scrapped port of oblivion to the psp.

not a port. spinoff.

You talk a lot about its "general structure" and how it runs, yet you don't know about the combat system? Fuck outta here nigga.

Oh okay

I'm replaying oblivion now with mods. I don't know how I ever played this shitpile without mods. Gameplay mods, graphics mods, UI mod, nude mod, and extra areas. It's really fun now that the RPG mechanics are fixed and I can look down and see my character's boob physics in action. Some of the quest lines are really good.

Because I've read up on it and watched a short documentary on it. I'm the best source of information in this thread at the moment.

youtube.com/watch?v=Yzkyv6PEfjQ

vid's gone, otherwise you'd know as much as I do.

I wouldnt call this a spinoff, its more a really stripped down version.

I would call it a spinoff, because it was designed completely differently from the original game and was part of the spinoff franchise of the elder scrolls travels.

So it's a spinoff.

A short documentary that didn't have any details on the combat? Just the frame rate? What an in-depth documentary. I bow to your esoteric knowledge.

Fair enough i guess.

In what ways?

The combat looked similar to oblivion, I don't know how it played in practice. Instead of acting like a bitch about it, why don't you wait for the video to go back up? There was also about 40 minutes of commentary-less recording in addition to the 9 minute video. You could wait instead of acting like a fuming child so you can find out from someone elses first hand experiences, instead of my second hand experiences.

I thought we were talking about a different game here?

it removed the open world in favor of a hub central city where you'd access parts of the world, dungeons, etc.

anyone else think Oblivion is one of the funniest games ever made? the animations, inflection on every line of dialogue, the completely bizarre lighting and fucking retarded writing turn what you'd think is some token fantasy romp into the Naked Gun of RPGs.

Am I the only who found Oblivion good? It definitely wasn't great, but it wasn't awful or mediocre it was just good. It's like a bag of chips that aren't very special but they taste good regardless.

I found the atmosphere pretty comfy, exploring and fucking around was pretty enjoyable. There were a couple of dungeons that were fun, primarily in the DLC at least. And the DLC was pretty good, Shivering Isles and Kights of the Nine was pretty fun.

I always like booting up oblivion to this day and just kind of exploring and soaking in the atmosphere.

Plus I used to play oblivion a lot on my 360 and on my toaster laptop before I had a proper PC so there's likely some nostalgia playing a part in my opinion.

I have played every elder scrolls game except spinoffs like redguard, and they are all shit.

It definitely has a lot of flaws, but it's still just as enjoyable as Morrowind for me. Everything you said about the atmosphere is very true, it's so damn comfy.

Almost as old as its target audience

...

Certainly not, there are many people with equally shit taste.
Comfy is a code-word for shit
Zero incentive for exploration because of leveled loot and enemies.
No, they were all copy-pasted and shit.
It was average, and was absolutely ruined by level scaling.
Welp, that certainly explains everything.

The only fags you see arguing that Morrowind or Oblivion are good are consolebabies where it was babby's first open world RPG.

To be perfectly honest, it's a shit game.
That said, I still like it. You could say that the shittiness has its own special charm.

Guilty as charged, although it was PC.

Please teach me how to attain video game enlightenment user.

...

Go play through Gothic and Gothic 2 and you'll get to experience some truly top-tier open world RPGs that really do reward exploration, are brutally hard, and provide a level of immersion that has yet to be surpassed by modern open world RPGs.

Your waifu is shit

No, the gameplay is very flawed. Super extremely flawed. So flawed that it's better to build a magic character if you want to be a fighter, and also it's better to never level up. Fixable with mods but the game is shit. Also there is no variety to anything. Weapons, enemies, dungeons. The cities are pretty but they're all basically the same with different textures.

Recently watched the video about the Making of Oblivion and it genuinely made me feel somber

What a happy place.

If it were 10 years ago I could understand, but today?

Come on, user. You should know better by now.

lol

You do realize Morrowind was gutted just like every single TES game in the series?

It truly is one of the worst series of video games in the market.

I MUST HAVE A LINK I'VE BEEN DYING FOR THIS GAME SINCE I WAS IN HIGHSCHOOL

DUDE WEED LMAO

How many sacrifices were made in controls to have it playable?

Could the PS Vita handle vanilla Oblivion at 544p and 60fps?

probably considering killzone mercenary looks as good as some 360 games

That's rather unlikely. It doesn't sound impossible to make it run at 30fps though

Hmm the 60fps requirement is probably unreasonable. My fucking desktop with an i5-2500k struggles to keep 60fps when running around outdoors.

...

Kill self.

Anyone have a mirror?

THE ABSOLUTE MADMAN IS STREAMING THE PSP VERSION

twitch.tv/ptoponline

...

Katia is objectively the best waifu fam this is common sense.

I would actually say I liked it also.
I won't say it is good game however, there is far too many things to fix or change to make it good.

Also Skyrim pretty much makes it so I cannot enjoy Oblivion.
You want same better gameplay, you can go play Skyrim.
You want good story, silly overpowered stuff and large world to explore, you can go play Morrowind.

It is worthy to mention Skyrim is also shit and biggest reason of me not 100% Oblivion is it crashing even more than Skyrim is.

Or most RPGs with semi open-world like Dragon Dogma.
However you make me realise one thing. Gothic on Handheld would be awesome.
Tank controls would work with controller, graphics are so basic it would run on 3DS in 60FPS.
That would be awesome.

If your chips don't taste very good then go to a better chip shop or try some new variations. Curry sauce is supposed to be good. The one near me does chips with bolognese sauce, which sounds weird but is pretty damn nice.

Anyway I played Oblivion years back and I can't remember fuck all about it. There were some sewers below the city, a monk was important, the thief guild culminated in a hat that made you not-invisible or something, every oblivion gate goes to the same boring empty lava land. Not sure I could recall a single quest nor a single dungeon. In summary: I'm glad I pirated it.

Thanks nigga.

I just wanted to watch video games.

Take the part of oblivion that no one liked and focus the whole thing around it. These guys are fucking geniuses. They could have saved more processing power by focusing on side quests and story elements.

You need flash, otherwise it wont work. Sad shit.

fuck no, Oblivion's open world was terrible. The good thing about Oblivion was some of the side quests

docs.livestreamer.io/

use livestreamer and skip the bullshit

fuck he beat me…

How would the controls work though? I would guess face buttons for movement and thumbstick for looking with only L and R as action buttons and the D-pad for another 4 inputs. I don't see how that works for Oblivion.

thanks fampai

No idea. without two sticks the only solution I can think of is 3rd person camera, clearly not what they are trying to do though. Maybe L and R rotate the camera and you can't look up and down? are there any first person games on the psp?

It's most likely like other fp games. Thumb is move, face buttons are camera, L is probably magic and R is probably sword swing. Not sure about d-pad though

...

I thought I had flash installed. It was only displaying the UI for the stream, but no actual stream.

(checked)

This is so much easier on GNU/Linux than on Windows. MPC won't even render the fucking stream, even after getting it all installed. I wish mpv wasn't a huge pain in the cunt to install on Windows.

Kys

Is it bad that I don't think this look absolutely terrible? Compared to the other shit on PSP this looks almost playable and it's definitely recognizable as Oblivion. It's not at all like the canned Saint's Row PSP game that they gave to the public some time ago.

...

No this looks actually impressive, you can tell this was outsourced because there's no way Bethesda could make a PSP game that occasionally runs at 60fps.

the hell is a polyfag?

That actually looks pretty good.
It's surprising that the PSP could pull off something like that.

Where can I get this? Is the source floating around?

What was the reason they gave for canceling this game?

It's a fun game to fuck around with the AI

I've never understood how anyone has managed to find exploring Oblivion fun. The land is so bland and vacant that despite being larger than both Morrowind and Skyrim, it feels nearly twice as small as either, and its all the same shit, even the locations.

I tried replaying it a bit ago to rob castles and sneak around and shit.

Couldn't get into it for more than an hour. It had some magic when I first played it, but it's gone now.

If you where a stealth player it blew skyrim out of the water

Well Skyrim isn't exactly what I'd call an insurmountable standard.

I don't even remember morrowind having something set aside like this for stealth players. Even the morag tong felt more like a fighter type thing, rather the dark brotherhood in oblivion where there where ways to oneshot the target, even if they where contextual.
