Try cleaning the cache, use Ctrl-F5 on the catalog or go into options > filters > clear all filters to see if you accidentally shift-clicked it and hid it that way. When it appears and then disappears like that, it could be related to a filter issue.

You can use Random Agent Spoofer to spoof header info, as well as obfuscate the Browser and OS metadata collected from sites (good for blocking geo-tracking scripts as well).

Also, use Noscript and block all global scripts. Make sure you erase the whitelist and manually configure it to your own browsing convenience.

Also, using these safety addons with a cheap private VPN service w/ no logs (there are many out there) will help avoid you being monitored.

Of-course it is your duty to routinely clean your cookies/browser cache on a regular basis too.

Another tip: never leave your modem connected 24/7. Always make sure you physically unplug your connection while you are not on the computer (reduces the chances of you getting hacked significantly).

You are absolutely correct. You should wipe the whitelist and reconfigure it to allow only the sites you most routinely visit. Otherwise you can temporarily allow sites as you go, and later revoke all temporary permissions (which I routinely do).

Another addon that is good for security is Tin Foil. It allows you to config your security settings in your browser like many geeks do, but much more conveniently (with easy to understand instructions). I use that to regulate what information my browser can collect, and what info it can send to other sites.

She seemed pretty distraught about the fact that they didn't want to correct any of the discovered issues.

As I stated above ( ) , Noscript gives you the option of temporarily allowing sites to run their scripts. You can revoke (deny) those scripts at anytime too. So you could allow the site to run temporarily, then block it when you are done. Then obviously you should wipe out your cookies and browser cache and restart your browser.

BTW, it's not only Mega that I run into issues like this. I use file hosts ALL THE TIME! Almost every single file host I run into I have to temporarily allow scripts in order to use it. And I do… but later I revoke them when finished uploading. Then I bleach my browser history/caches and reboot my browser.

Not a big deal.

Just checked these files hosts. Very nice, however the same issue occurs when using a site like Mega. In order to use those file hosts I have to click on the Noscript tool and temporarily allow the site's scripts in order to use it.
