I use an old, old Wacom Bamboo Fun from 2006, mainly because Wacom's original intuos line broke in my hands.
The best advice I can give someone starting out is to copy (don't take credit for it or post on deviant art, ect) styles you admire, learn how to draw depth and stuff. Practice all day and learn how to exert the right amount of pressure for lining. I'm still lowtier since I don't practice actual drawing/coloring as much anymore.
But, if you're looking into getting into it, 100% go for it.
