Based upon letters between Scholl and her boyfriend, Fritz Hartnagel (reported and analyzed by Gunter Biemer and Jakob Knab in the journal Newman Studien), she had given two volumes of Cardinal John Henry Newman's sermons to Hartnagel when he was deployed to the eastern front in May 1942. This discovery by Jakob Knab shows the importance of religion in Scholl's life and was highlighted in an article in the Catholic Herald in the UK. Scholl learned of the White Rose pamphlet when she found one at her university. Realizing her brother helped author the pamphlet, Scholl herself began to work on the White Rose.

Ok so Fritz Hartnagel was apparently the primary source - letters from her boyfriend. The analysis of these letters come from Gunter Biemer, a Bishop, and Jakob Knab, a guy who studied. Jakob Knab an antifascist who studied catholicism "discovered" these letters. alongside "TWO VOLUMES of sermons" sent to the eastern front. If that doesn't sound manufactured as fuck…. I don't know what is.

Yeah, this was my initial conclusion but as said, why was the father not similarly punished in such times for his subversion? It's such a clear, unexplained gap that we need to get to the bottom of before deciding whether she was just a subversive or whether this is manufactured (which I'm starting to lean towards).

Yeah definitely, especially given the context but why was her father not similarly executed given the obvious connection authorities could have made between his children's behavior and his status as their marxist-leaning father when he was (temporarily) imprisoned just after her daughter's execution? The liquidation of White Rose wasn't unforeseeable. They had been a pain in local authorities' asses for a while, but Dad was a prominent local politician, which saved the little shits' necks every time they got arrested.

The incident that put them over the top was a riot.
