I watched his Quake video this morning while I had breakfast, I didn't gain any insight other than it reminded me that NIN did music for Quake 1.
I'm finding his more recent video's have become somewhat subversive advertisements. If I'm not mistaken, he even praises Gone Home in one of them. I remember the way he worded it and its presentation felt like a straight up commercial for the game.
He's probably referring to the fact that Ahoy used to do Call of Duty gun videos.

Anyway, if you're expressing your thoughts as complaints, I don't really think they're valid. What you said can be applied to documentaries as a whole. Documentaries don't often offer additional information to those knowledgeable on their subject matter, that's the nature of the format.

It really feels like a typical documentary, in that it's meant to present the basic information to newcomers in an easy-to-digest format. In that, it felt like it was doing a good job, like you could show it to someone who knows absolutely nothing about video games, and they'd mostly "get it".

I've done a lot of research over the years on id, carmack, everyone, read the masters of doom (which I strongly advise everyone check out, especially for some of Romero's quotes, like the one where he reacts to Carmack getting rid of his cat, Mittsy, who got in the way at the office. He goes on a small rant after he took her to the pound, and says "She's going down! Down to Chinatown!" It's great.

Masters of Doom is so in-depth, to the point of covering Daikatana's developmental hell. Highly recommend it to any classic shooter fan, love all the ins and outs the game covers. The audio book is good too, despite being read by a cuck.
