How long does each round take?

That's a good question. It depends on how quickly we can beat each other up.

It's max 5 minutes per fight round, with 4 fighting rounds. This is not counting the 2 races and 2 spirit matches with each take from 2 to 5 minutes. A whole game is pretty lenghty, up to half an hour or more? But they're just playing the fighting rounds.

You're not taking into account the fact that one in-game second is three real-life seconds due to fps lag.

First screen is offline fighting mode. From what I've read on the wiki, the whole tension deal is that while you fight, the music is playing in the background and there is a meter. When you reach high tension, you will move faster and you deal more damage but when you're at low, you deal less damage and move slower.

It'll take a while to get used to the controls on a keyboard, which makes me think this was designed for gamepads.

I like how convenient a Japanese IME is for typing unique characters. Instead of having to look up how to type ∞, it's possible to type mugen(infinity), and it appears as an option; Same with all sorts of characters and emoji.

First thing you'll want to do is make sure you're all running the same version (1.40a with or without english patch). Then whoever is hosting will need to change these options in network_config.ini, and all of the clients will need to do the same thing to be able to connect to the host. The first option is your name, the second is the port, the third is your IP when you're hosting, and the fourth is the host IP you're trying to connect to. I put the ports after each IP just to be safe, that might not be necessary. If you're running windows you'll want to enable compatibility mode for windows xp and run it as admin. After that you should be able to connect and host your own games, but please keep in mind that the exes are quite finnicky and may give you a "BAD" error for no reason.

It's worth mentioning that it seems to work the first time you allow it in your firewall with windows, so any problems likely have to do with firewall settings.

Removing the exception and re-adding it when you try to host seems to fix the problem, wew.

I think it works just fine without the english patch as long as it's 1.40a, it only changes what the text says, but not the rest of the game.

Also, to host, you need to load a save in-game, then select multiplayer (second option), then select the host option (first option).

I wouldn't bother with voicepacks. Touhous are supposed to only be able to communicate through text.
