I'm all for Bavaria and Eastern Germany creating their own independent state. The East was better off culturally being separated from the West at the expense of being economically more fucked. Germany doesn't even have their own Constitution, they still operate under the Basic Law that was written and forced upon them by the Allies.

The reason I suggested Germans start an East German separatist movement is because it looks to be like the Eastern region has stayed attached to their German identity and racial homogeneity better than the West. The cultural differences between South and North are bigger than between East and West in Germany. The former GDR states also are much less economically viable than the West (still) so a divide would only hurt them.

Not really. See, in the east you had all former local traditions exterminated for the bigger goal of being a good socialist state. All the small rural traditions that I still see in western Germany that keep the community together are non-existent in the east.

However, the easterners were unlucky when the wall fell. Most of the industrial capacities were either relocated by westerners into the west or bled out and then shut down. The result was and still is a massive lack of industrial work places where in contrast in western germany you have a vast amount of small and large companies that are world class hidden champions in what they're doing.

So it comes, that in the east, the people, deprived of their work places and firms, their traditions and lack of higher goals, are sick of what is happening right now and so tend to be willing to vote AfD. In the west, however, you still have many Germans that have well-paying jobs, regional traditions (especially in BW and BY) and they just don't bother voting for change. What is especially maddening, is that they tend to look down at easterners. Also you have inner-german migrations by germans that "flee" from the east to get well paying jobs in the west that just are non-existent in the east, which makes the whole thing just worse.
