The two Miles Edgeworth spinoff games are the best games in the series since AA3. Gyakuten Kenji 2 got a fan translation so you don't need to learn moonrunes.

I'm midway through the third DS Phoenix Wright and it's already starting to repeat itself (hell even the first one felt like it was repeating itself), I'm really getting tired of these recurring characters. I also don't know why people have raved over Godot at least here on Holla Forums, is it the coffee thing?

Anyway I can't imagine actually playing every damn game, you'd have to be insane to just want more of the same over and over again.

Its the latter parts of the game that make Godot memorable. The recurring characters were apparently partially a symptom of being originally on the GBA and needing the space.

Apollo Justice isn't incredible, but its alright. Better than JFA, but definitely not the best. The Investigations games are alright, the second much better than the first, though you'll need to patch a ROM of the second one to get it in English since it didn't come west. Dual Destinies isn't exactly the best of the bunch either, in the same boat as Apollo.

So basically with the exception of the Investigations games, if you aren't sold by the end of T&T, then don't bother because AJ and DD almost certainly won't sell you on it.

Oh and Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright is alright, but is much better if you're more a fan of the Layton games rather than the Ace Attorney games. Because the Layton segments definitely outshine the AA ones.

Layton vs Wright is amazing, I have a hard time imagining a better crossover game, even though almost every Layton puzzle could be solved by brute force.

But yeah, the courtroom cases are not the best. People tend to think of them as "harder than main AA games", but in reality they are harder because the logic connections you have to infer are big stretches at best and kind of stupid at worse.

I remember having lots of trouble at the final case when having to present a certain "picture" or drawing of footprints over and over again, because it had been discussed to death and its importance already established. Then turned out they weren't conclusive footprints and all that shit, which only made things more confusing. By the time the trial is done, you end up confused on how the fuck you got there in the first place.

I'm pretty sure Athena is confirmed, but Apollo had his own game so he will be given special status forever.

Yeah. I mean, don't get me wrong, the game as a whole is pretty solid. Its just not as good if you're only in it for the Courtroom stuff because everything around it is so Layton it hurts. Hell, Professor Layton himself constantly upstages Phoenix so it feels more like they're trying to sell Layton to AA fans than the other way around.

She is back. She's just been downgraded from Lawyer to Apollo's assistant in this game it seems like. Hell, the Mood Matrix is even making a return for Apollo's segments.

Well, the DLC case had them and did them proper. Just had the issue of them being fucking behind DLC.

Magatama got dramatically upstaged by Logic Chess in Investigations 2, though. It serves the same purpose (Force a dude hiding something to reveal it), but instead of mumbo jumbo and presenting evidence, it's about sweet-talking your way into making them talk too much, then corner them. It's bretty gud.

IIRC the original writer tried to make the first AA set in an unspecified location with an unclear culture for the sake of making localisation easier but, after Capcom decided not to localize the original GBA AA, the writer just let loose in the sequels. When Capcom decided to port the games over to the DS and translate them into english, the localisation team translated the first one thinking that the sequels would be equally unclear on the culture of the country, when they started translation on the second game they just went "Fuck it" and made up some excuse as to why there is so much jap shit in the US.

Apollo Justice is fairly weird. The guy who introduced me to ace attorney hated that game and I can understand why because it has quite a different ambience, the final case sort of jumps the shark, and there's no getting around the fact Apollo himself has no charisma.

That said, it's still an AA game, it has some good characters and the bracelet gimmick isn't too bad. If I really have one bone to pick with AJ, it's that they force it to be a mainline game when it really shouldn't be. Phoenix Wright in that game is so completely out of character it's obvious he was intended to be a new dude, and they force Apollo as the deuteragonist of Dual Destinies and now Spirit of Justice. AJ is best left as its own game.
