Quake 1 got those complaints but it had an excuse, it was designed for a 256 color palette and had far less available due to carmack-level trickery to do shading (IIRC 64 main colors). They had to pick a very small grouping of colors and browns worked well for that. Other '90s FPS games were usually very colorful.

Do you know how easy it is to "Create a Consensus" on Holla Forums?, A team of 2-4 people, switching IP's (only in the case on this board) can easily create the perception that hundreds of people on Holla Forums are positively/negatively interested in a specific product.

For an example, Do you remember Dominic Vanner aka. Manlet Tears? (I think he goes by "Britbong Returns" these days).
His threads were 95% himself posting to himself. He would make a negative straw man post about himself, then reply to that pointing out the flaws in the negative posts argument to cast himself in a more positive light, This made his threads appear more legit.
He used this technique to create the consensus that he was not only popular on Holla Forums, but beloved too. Because his treads would give the perception that a large amount of anonymous participated, when there was only 1 person who posted in the thread with 100+ replies.
To this day, user's still know and like this guy, because they believe they are among a large group of like minded people.

They are almost always superior but really shine when it's not limited to that for the entire game. You can have a game or something that's mostly limited colours and then suddenly a bright forest level or what have you. It really stands out way better than some oversaturated bloom massacre.

Having colors like this does not account for a good art style. When you're picking paster colors you'd assume that the game is more light hearted in some ways. With Overwatch, it makes no sense. TF2 has some of the more cartoonish colors but the game used irony in the fact that the characters you play as are all idiots in some way.

TF2 looks like an illustration from the 50's or 60's which makes sense, since that's what the game is set in.

Overwatch is just a mess of colors. It doesn't look bad but it also doesn't stand out because there's nothing coherent about their palettes.
It's hard to even tell sometimes what's going on or where a trap is placed. So they bandaid it with bright red outlines so it doesn't get lost amongst all the bullshit.
