Batman: White Knight #1

...

...

...

...

Oh man.. this is their big "The Joker is actually the good guy" comic that they hyped up.. And it's unsurprisingly completely fucking retarded.
Give me a fucking break.

...

...

I don't think anyone has ever understood Batman less than the faggots who wrote this God Awful book.

I cant find the tweet that said this but they really do think he is some rich white man that beats on the lower class minorities to "stop crime"

Cant post the rest right now but will be able to later tonight after work.

The concept of the White Knight story is promising (hel, even the joker rambling is on the point), but the writting is full with bullshits!
- The White Knight mostly Dent's title
- The Joker is a famous maniac, even if this is a total new universe, it's hard to believe or accept how there are no charges against him
- The wording: sjw, race riot, dude… words witch sound weird in an environment where is an old candlestick phone is a thing. (i admit this could be only my autism…)
- A fucking mystery pill as a plot device
- The reason why Batman break: I know Alfred dying, but it's not enough reason for Bruce to break! If the Joker would be directly involved it would make much more sense!

Just my two cent…
btw pic related looks hilarious

Y'know, feigning sanity then crying abuse at the hands of Batman would be a great classic Joker scheme if they weren't pulling this 'Joker's a good boy, he dindu nuffin' shit. This book seems like it's written by one of those caricatures from the Dark Knight Returns that actually believe that the Joker, a man that nearly blew up the entire universe just for the fuck of it, is a victim of society and can be rehabilitated when it's been proven time and time again that he's completely beyond help. In fact, this whole book feels like a shitty version of TDKR. I wonder if Sean Murphy has ever even read a Batman comic before in his life.

Honestly I'd say the Joker just being a petty thief is the worst part. He's apparently never done anything worse than hold up a few banks but Bruce is supposed to hate him enough to endanger the lives of others to get at him and attempt to kill him in full view of the public? And this is in a universe where Batman has other enemies and has apparently lost multiple Robins (though I guess Jason Todd, the archetypical dead Robin is fine in this universe since Joker is such a nice fellow).

Can anyone honestly give me an in universe reason why Bruce would be worked up about a guy who is apparently notable soley because he's a failed comedian? The entire first issue hinges on this relationship which only works if the Joker is a deranged mass killer and yet at the same time set the Joker up as a playful prankster who's never done anyone harm so Bruce can look deranged when he overreacts to the nonexistant threat.

You know that user on here who sometimes complains about how he'd prefer it if the Riddler wasn't a "serious" villian and was more a guy who liked setting up riddles that Batman had to solve? So that whenever the Bat hears that the Riddler has escaped he's happy because he knows he'll soon be able to spend an evening solving riddles rather than fighting maniacs? I see no reason why this version of the Joker wouldn't be like that. Not a serious villian, a fun diversion and a palate cleanser for when the more violent criminals start getting you down.

I have nothing against that user, because i loved pic related! As i said, my main problem is how far we are from clear what kind of Joker we deal in the issue. The edge master or the prankster?

But damn, if this would be the only problem than i wouldn't complain at all!

Btw, i kinda agree with the "riddler should be less edgelord" user's opinion. In most stories Nigma has full right to be pissed, but he never really cross the line in a Jigsaw-way as in the the Arkham Games.

Oh. I honestly thought that Slade was just trying to figure out Superman's secret identity out of curiosity and maybe shits and giggles, but of course it had to be because Waller told him to. I feel like I shouldn't hate the Suicide Squad as much as I do, but knowing that the only reason DC is pushing them so hard is the awful movie makes me furious.

That's was exactly what Bill Finger did with The Joker, The Penguin, and all of Batman's reoccurring villains.Fun, but still threatening antagonists who go on crime sprees and try to kill Batman as a breather between Batman fighting more violent, one-shot criminals.Like the fucking Blaze who burned people to death.

In fact, treating Batman's rogues as anything other than breather villains fundamentally undermines the very premise of Batman. It's one thing for Batman face down a killer and bring him to justice, it's another for Batman to have to constantly face the same killer over and over again.Every time that killer shows up, it makes Batman and the entire justice system look impotent, as they clearly couldn't protect the citizens of Gotham from one killer.

It's a shame they've gone so far down the rabbit hole that they can never believably return all those characters to their original characterization, especially Batman himself. When was the last time he even did any detective work? The Bronze Age?

This may entirely be my own head cannon, but one thing I liked about the more fantastical villains not or rarely killing people is that it elevated them further from typical criminal scum. It gave me the impression of them being so damn good at crime that they could wear garish outfits, pull off impossible heists and evade local law enforcement and governement agencies, thereby justifying the existence of fantastical hero being the only one capable of dealing with them.

I have serious doubts. The use of "Jack Napier" as the Joker's real name, and with the 2nd and 3rd pages here give me real cause to suspect that Murphy's knowledge of Batman and Joker is limited to the 1989 Tim Burton movie and the 90's animated series.

I mean seriously, just LOOK at that collection of costumes and vehicles and tell me that isn't a very specific era of Batman being represented.

Even if this is just the Nicholson Joker and all other history is wiped clean, he's still a mutliple-murderer BEFORE even becoming the Joker. "Never been convicted of anything more than armed-robbery" my ass.

That's possibly the worst part of this. Not that Joker is just that much of a fucking do-nothing nobody, barely even worthy of being called a villain.. and also a failed comedian… and some kind of Batman fanboy to boot…. No, the real crime here is that their version of Batman for this hamfisted universe is an unhinged jackass who destroys the city on a regular basis, kills and endangers civilians constantly, and beats people near to death just because they mock him. Joker being a minor thug pales in comparison to a Batman who is universally hated for being more dangerous than the criminals he beats up.

The Arkham games?

Of course /coumblr/ at the old site has people defending it. I know because i frequent it for the storytimes there that happen more frequently there

With the kids shows/comics, the villains have to steal because they can't kill.
But yeah, only way to do it now is to do insanity properly I.e. episodes.
One issue Mad Hatter could be using his hats to steal something vaguely hat related, next issue his psychosis has flared up and he's kidnapped a poor girl thinking she's Alice.
Every villain's crime spree could turn into a killing spree, making it more tense.

Even then, either he or the computer instantly knows the answer. There's no mystery or solving motives. And the villains schemes & twists are usually left unsolved so even batman can be shocked and react and tell the audience this was a really smart plan.
When was the last time Batman worked out the villain's plan and tried to stop it in advance?

Am i wrong or this feel like at least some parts of the Lego Batman Movie where ripped off and played seriously? Like Joker pretty much being gay for Batman and Batman telling Joker no cares about him was really like the same cene in that movie

The thing with Batman's rogues, in the Golden Age, was that they were part of the constant vying for power in Gotham's underworld to become the king of crime. The boss of bosses. The big man. The head of all organized crime in Gotham City. Batman's effectiveness was that he could stop any crook with any new angle on crime, preventing any criminal from gaining enough power to become top dog and keeping Gotham's underworld in disarray.

Foes like The Joker, The Penguin, and Catwoman were Batman's greatest threats because they were criminal masterminds, constantly coming up with clever and ingenious ways to commit crime. Normal police are helpless before their criminal intellect, and if left unhindered, they would take over all of Gotham crime. From there, they would branch out into corruption, racketeering, and vice. Innocent Gothamites would no longer be safe, oppressed by the very crime that took Batman's parents. It became paramount for Batman to thwart their ambitions.

It's because of nature of crime that I hate when they make The Penguin a mob boss. Batman would not turn a blind eye to any of The Penguin's criminal activities, and would not rest until devious Penguin is back behind bars.

Not just you. I was heavily reminded of that too.

this

...

It's just cringe worthy. Term isn't even used quite right. I also like how he tried to be subtle with reusing one profile drawing of the woman three times on the same page.

Only thing it has in common with 90s cartoons is the aesthetic. Story is a bizarre mixture of Nolan, Burton, Miller, and Lego Batman Movie with a tumblr/twitter tier twist. At least art is more competent than what most twitter and tumblr artists produce.

Talk about a disappointment. Whole book is pretty dumb so far. Especially the part where joker wasn't convicted of anything than petty crimes, and yet he talks about causing terror and one of the flashbacks have him shooting a tommy gun. Loud and dramatic maniac like Joker would be pretty hard to miss. Especially in the era of smartphones.
It can even be argued that he is the instigator in the whole Batman feeding him pills case. After all, Joker broke into the pill storage, and when Batman asked him to surrender, but Joker threw a punch instead. He also kept taunting Batman later on.

This is the thing that strikes me as odd. They even made a point to inject smart phones as an integral part of Batman's defamation, because someone stood there while he lost his shit and started screaming like a lunatic while shoving handfuls of pills into a criminal's mouth.. And yet, no one had a smartphone around for any of Joker's crimes? This guy is really just a wacky petty thug who does showy things, but has never harmed or killed anyone?

The line about Batman saving "dozens" of people also struck me as really odd. Batman is a superhero who saves the whole city or, y'know, the whole fucking world. He's the guy who stops villains like Joker from detonating bombs that he hid in every orphanage in the city. It's such a weird take on the basic configuration of Batman and Joker as archetypal heroes and villains that I wonder how they got far enough past that colossal glaring issue to rush headlong into an ill-conceived legal drama where Joker leads a social uprising against that menace to society Spider-man! Batman!

If Joker was done in the modern era, would he be a youtube eceleb screaming "it's just a prank, bro!" after ruining people's lives in some hilarious way?

So Waller was wanting to see if Superman would murder for the sake of his Wife. See, he loves Lois, but he should have targeted Jon for that. Jon is literally his flesh and blood, and though he'd probably have been capable of crushing deathstrokes head himself, would have probably pushed Superman and Lois over the line.

No. He'd be TWICE as annoying.

The bigger problem I’ve got with this storyline is that it doesn’t make much sense for it to take place immediately before Deathstroke started up Defiance. The way Slade’s acting here (including being willing to let Superman kill him), it feels more like it’s even further back, shortly before the wedding. It might even make sense as an alibi for why he couldn’t have been the one to kill Jericho’s fiancée.

Wew.

ok thats all for this week took a bit longer but I got distracted

Thank you DC Fag

So Joker just wears make up and doesn't have his skin bleached?

I'd say the Bronze Age.

Kind of reminds me of Watchmen where the criminals got so cocky they decided to dress up in costumes.

With the Arkham games the detective work felt very handholding especially in Arkham Origins. Such a shame since they promoted the hell out of the detective thing.

Is it me or does the villain there look like one of the Judge Dredd villains.

Who's the big head one? Is that Egg Fu?

Decent start this seems like this could be fun.

Thanks for the storytim OP. >INB4 someone comes out saying stop your autistic posting.

Holy shit you are right! Besides i loved that movie for that angle
I wanted to say Arkham Games just like the other user, but it just striked my how Batman nearly fail every games to prevent the villains!

Holy shit, the user in the previous thread was right about how the White knight should be storytimed in a different thread. This shit just pull out so many problem with the modern Batman we just can't ignore them anymore.

By far the worst thing DC have ever implemented. If they want to parade a shitty character like Harley around, be my guest, but I wish they'd leave Ivy alone instead of destroying her, too.

I would expect a pissed Talia rather…
Anyway, the arc was pretty good.

Batfags need to be gassed.

Are you retarded or something?

The Riddler's head is more v-shaped with a weaker chin and a prominent widow's peak.

DC used to their editors in charge of visual consistency and continuity. They had model sheets and everything. Now look at them.

How can a super-felon be running for office?
Why is Harley some kind of good guy?
Are she and Ivy in some kind of open relationship or what?

If it were Gotham City, yes, I could see that.

But New York?

Nice.

Also,

Fucking disgusting.

Isn't she with the JLA right now, or is this another Ice-themed supervillan?

Thanks for uploading, OP.

I went to the comic store today. Bought some DC stuff. I wanted all of Super Sons but they only had the last three issues. There were stacks of Marvel Legacy and Generations.

looks like Killer Frost.

And a pissed Damian

Thanks OP.

I've only recently started reading DC, so I don't know who Meena is; my knowledge of speedsters doesn't include her, and a quick search surprisingly reveals little. Can anyone tell me who she is?

She added in this run of the flash and this is her first appearence after her supposed death, she got her powers from the speed force storm

Oh, thanks user. I didn't realize she was so new.
So she appeared and then was 'killed' off?
I've only been reading Flash here for the past, maybe 10 issues?

Yeah, just catch up on all the back issues starting from Rebirth to get filled in on who Meena is. I think she was mainly a thing in the very first and/or second story arc.

well this is interesting. So Zeus is her father? They scrapped the made of clay thing I suppose. I've only read part of the new Wonder Woman from the beginning of Rebirth so I haven't got the whole story. That team of Steves seems like the one from the movie. I guess it was probably intentional though I havent' seen them before in this comic until now.

Seriously?

that's not new

Harley screwing anyone but the Joker and acting normal annoys me really hard. To me, she'll always be the Bruce Timm version and noone else.

Really curious about White Knight thought,
and I like that weird ass Bat-Joker.

Why is America reacting so allergic whenever someone mentions HOW AMERICA FUCKING IS TODAY?!

It was solid, especially for old character's revival and redone origin story and it's already better than the 90s series. Getting rid off the cliche WWII ties in the origin was a good idea.
Hopefully series will be more of an occult hero with some Punisher influences instead of typical Gotham vigilantism. It would be especially great if they would draw on Jewish, Slavic, Bavarian, and Middle Eastern folklore, but I know that probably won't happen.

Thank you for your weekly service, DCanon.

Wow, literally every three pages is a question that won't get answered. It's almost like they're trying to make me get invested into literally nothing. What a comic.

It's dumb but at least it's only happening because of Oz's intervention.
Still, so dumb.

No wonder the jewtube kike loves this book so much.

Why even bother if your not going to get the terminology right? He didn’t even call them yellow devils.

I don't know what's worse, the paneling, the art or the fucking selfie
