Personally, I liked Y as an intro to 3D pokemon. Once the novelty wore off, it's kinda bland. Also, playing as a dude gave you Serena who was a nice nextdoor neighbor girl, instead of playing as a girl which gave you dick headed Calem. The story was shit, but it was neat to have multiple recurring friends. The Looker side story was decent, and the overall world design I liked.

Pokemon Sage looks okay, but I think they're shooting themselves in the foot by choosing to stay two or three generations behind the main games.

As much as I hate fairies, I don't know what it would be like to try and play the game without them.
Not to mention that I think the game still uses the old crit formula, which makes the "always results in a critical hit" moves absurdly powerful when put on a pokemon with Sniper.

I like the legendaries. The lion looks like the Pokemon equivalent of a Zoid and the bat looks like it could be a Kirby boss. They're a hell of a lot better than the hot messes we got in Gens IV and V, though I don't like either of them quite as much as Xerneas.

Catch a type that has an advantage over the next gym leader, ones near the gym always have a moveset that makes it way easier for you.

Example: In Gen V you can catch a Roggenrola before Elesa's Gym, which has Smack Down. Smack Down removes the Flying Type from enemies from the rest of the battle, however, Roggenrola is kind of weak.

If you go into any cave ever and hunt for dust clouds, there's a really good pokemon called Drillbur, with good defence and great attacks.

Now, Elesa's pokemon are both Flying and Electric types, which are meant to trip you up if you picked up a grass type to resist electricity (because up until now, Absorb and Mega Drain basically allow you to win any battle because it's the early game).

So, what do you do? Your Roggenrola has Sturdy, which guaruntees that you will survive two hits and get one attack off, but because he's weak he can only survive one hit against an Electric/Flying type and it's a losing battle for Drilbur because his best Ground Type attacks don't work on Flying types.

So, with Roggenrola, take a hit, use Smack Down to remove flying types, switch into Drillbur and hit the fucker with ground type moves.

Then, heal up Roggenrola with items, send in a sacrifice and do it again.

The last mon can be dealt with Drilbur alone.

And this is all without gaining a single level.

No it wasn't. Three hair colors and shit base customization apart, clothes for men were absolutely horrible and the lack of choice was ridiculous. Not to mention I'm pretty sure they removed it in ORAS instead of improving the first interesting thing they had in years.

The overworld is bland and boring. Not only the switch to full 3D makes everything much less cartoony and beautiful, but there were no particularly good areas. Not to mention ORAS where they just completely shat on how the games used to look.

If you want a good example of how to remake something well without shitting on the original, look at the G/S remakes.

Rollerskates were dogshit. And you know, fair enough if they put them in there as an option. But they're not an option. You either use the shitty D-pad, or you're forced to use the rollerskates that barely work and control like shit. All they had to do was unequipping them from the bag, but no, that was too fucking much.

Fairy is a shit type, you can barely understand what's a fairy and what isn't. When you add dark and iron to a game that has been out for a few years fair enough, most people won't even notice it. But when you add such an ambiguous type after 20 fucking years the games came out and you retroactively change types, that's when you alienate your audience.

It's a terrible idea and it had terrible execution.

Apart from that the boring story, the incredibly patronizing character, the really really shitty legendaries (and over abundance of them) and megaevolutions made these games some of the worst experiences I have ever had with vidya.

Not to mention there is absolutely no post game. Not even in ORAS, because apparently it was too fucking hard TO COPY SOMETHING THAT WAS ALREADY IN FUCKING EMERALD AND IS CONSIDERED BY MANY THE BEST POST GAME IN THE SERIES.

The characters were shit, megaevos are also kinda shit but at least offer options for previously underused(and many overused) mons, and the story sucked. But the story is almost never that great in mainline Pokemon. You beat up generic bad guys who are trying to get crazy power from animal gods.

good designs, decent challenge, hell most of the meta-game was still shaped around it before megas came
but I still see Platinum as the best of that generation over the gen 2 remakes

Gen I and II were more nineties anime with a touch of zany streetpunk to them. I like the image that points out the design differences and all but honestly I think Pokemon fans just need to grow up and get along. I think design > concept and that newer Pokemon could be just as awesome as the older ones with a few tweaks.

only one fire pokemon in the wild was my only real problem with it but the region seemed to have been designed around not too much need of fire pokemon anyways
also the place is really cold and wet so fire pokemon wouldnt really be able to survive there easily

The pacing was incredibly slow at times, and the HM count pissed me off.

I didnt mind slow pacing, but maybe thats because it was the only pokemon game that managed to immerse me beyond the numbers game.
