Bloodstained aims for a "Staggered Content Release"

nichegamer.com/2016/05/09/dlc-plans-for-bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night-revealed/

lol at them calling out MN9's bullshit but I feel this is actually a strategy to extract even more shekels and not so much an attempt to avoid getting delayed forever and ever.

What are your thoughts Holla Forums?

My thoughts on a new Iga game?

Pic related.

Laughed my ass off and lost all interest when they showed the first in-game screenshot.

this

Nobody cares how you feel and there's absolutely no reason to believe this is to/this will gain more money. In fact if you have learned ANYTHING from games such as SFV you will know it only hurts sales.

Its gonna be shit anyway.

Everyone who backed this shit raise your hand now.

Shenmue 3 when

The later screenshots look better but it's still not what I'm looking for. I was hoping for more of a Classicvania kind of thing. Of course then again I'm not really sure why I thought Igarashi would be the person to do that in the first place.

I didn't follow this at all. Post the screenshots.

...

More important question, does she have any good lewds now?

They might release the gamemodes for free.
Might being the keyword here

Don't know if that's a good thing. Unless it's a separate mode.

Another one bites the dust.
Can't release a full game on launch day, shouldn't be making them.

Yeah haha

But, who loves the shekels MORE?

Isnt there a bigger picture with Dragon's Crown/Serious Sam 3 in it too?

At least it sounds like it's moving along. It'll be cool to see what comes of all of these big Kickstarter games, even Mighty Blunder 9.

Having an optional roguelike dungeon is probably one of the things I'd like most for devs to add to a game. Games like DMC4 and such would have so much more replayability if it had such a thing besides the fixed spawns of Bloody Palace.

Yep. It was suck a punch to the dick when they went with cheapo 3D environments instead of something like SotN's gorgeous pixel art.

You faggots claimed for Shenmue 3

The article says that the DLC will be in a similar fashion to shovel knight.
which leads me to believe they will be free updates.

I wish DLC wasnt so tainted that it automatically means pay for.
or that there was a common words to use instead that would imply free

That screenshot looks pretty good at this stage. What's wrong with it?

That's the joke

Same story as for Fallout 4.
It will get half of the game handed as DLC and other half in mods that will release a year after premiere.
Same here it will be finished 2 years after premier. I will then look at it and see if it is worth buying or even playing.

It would benefit any RPG that it is added to. Excluding the ones that intentionally doesn't want you to grind too much, but number of them is getting towards 0 right now with creation of open world.

Its a newer screenshot but the one they were talking about did in fact look abysmal

Surprising no one, Kickstarters and Patreons provide no incentive to actually you know make a game as opposed to just milk it for all eternity

all games look terrible at the earliest stages, kind of a retarded point to make.

Is there any better way to get attention than to directly shit talk another game?

Welcome to Holla Forums

IGA is a hack who was bested at making his own games on the first try by another team. He was so butthurt that he demanded that the teams be consolidated the good game considered non-canon so he would be the only one who could make "metroidvania" style Castlevanias. He then ran the series into the ground by making the same game six different times.

normalfags eat that shit up, user.

Looks like shit

This is what makes me sad here.
everyone hates everything.
knee-jerk reactions are the norm.
anyone who likes anything is a "shill"
or a drone, or a *-defence-force, or whatever deflection technique is popular now

this place is user facebook or tumblr. i dont even know why i still come here.

its pretty much what 4chan was when i left. i dont know what 4chan is like now… probably worse.

Delayed content releases could be a great way to extend the life of a metroidvania game like Bloodstained, similar to how Diablo 3 adds new items and legendaries each patch to enable new playstyles, as well as new areas. It seems similar to how Dark Souls dlc interacted with the game.

That said, I don't know enough of what their goals for release are. I could be totally wrong, but the approach would work well.

I don't think I'd want it for the main story though, but I think the gameplay design is more like Devil May Cry: You play it for the gameplay, not the story, so cohesion in story isn't as big an issue as it seems. You could introduce lots of new content in NG+ without disrupting first playthrough balance.

You're exaggerating, but there is definitely a group on Holla Forums now that just goes "LOL EVERYTHING IS SHIT" because they think its an epic meme they need to spout.

Well, I'm not saying you're wrong, but I do have to wonder just exactly what you expect. Not every thread is shitposting incarnate, though it does tend to be a problem. Even so, this is a problem that spans the internet as a whole, and there are a lot of "communities" that are much worse than this one. Take a look around at other sites sometime, you'll see that bullshit is rampant and uncontrollable.

Exhibit A:
gamefaqs.com/boards/691087-playstation-4

The worst comes from people who spout shill on any discussion of a new game if it isn't for PC.

I bet you half the user's who talk shit about a game end up buying it anyways.

Let's get down to brass tacks.
How much longer until someone gets their hands on Miriam's models and ports it to SFM?
We're on the brink of something great here.

This is how I know you've never been in an Ace Combat thread.

I can't jerk off to 3D. It always looks too stupid.

The saddest fucking part is that Mark (the board owner) is one of them. See: Dark Souls 3

Mark is a Jew.

sfm always looks awful. source's garbage lighting and the stupid amounts of clipping makes anything immediately unappealing.

Mark is just one of the worst kind of people to run an imageboard.
I'm not saying he's a horrible person or anything, but his personality and social skills just aren't suited for such a position of leadership.
Granted, he could be doing worse, too, so I guess there's that.

Only time will tell on intents and quality, I suppose, but I much preferred Playtonic's promised approach to DLC: Worry about that shit after you've shipped the main product. Talking about DLC before you've released your game makes you not only seem cocky as fuck, but puts a bad taste in everyone's mouth since it might make people feel you're carving your content. Whether the DLC plan works out isn't what makes this stupid, its the fact that they announced it to the fucking world that makes it so fucking stupid.

I bet you like undercancer too

you want to talk about bloodstained? fine. have they shown anything resembling gameplay yet? serious question, I haven't kept track of this and I'm too lazy to bother with jewgle. textures in the screenshot here look shitty in a way I can't quite put my finger on. it looks unreal, and not in a good way.

true, but with that kind of budget, it's not unreasonable to expect something better.

this tbqh fam

you don't magically have a final product just because your budget is big

Hope you like talking about the only three games in that series anyone cares about and none of the others

Mark is an autistic, meme-spouting jew. Of course he's going to buy every game with an ounce of hype behind it.

In an ideal world, you would only hear from the board owner if something has gone wrong and they're needed to explain it or fix it.

Not magically, but you can have a more or less clear idea of what kind of product can be made with a considerable amount of money managed by someone who (supposedly) has the experience to properly manage the resources to make a quality product.

Previous videogame crowdfunding efforts have proven us that this is not the case, and yet some people still have hopes because this time it's [videogame celeb that I praise] who is responsible for the project.

This is not that world, unfortunately.

Kickstarter games, ladies and gentlemen.

...

Is "we aren't going to make the same mistakes as MN9" the new strategy for prolonging expectations of a kickstarter game developers game release?

I thought Shafer had that title with Shafering; asking for more money for superfluous things like celebrity voice acting, while also wasting money that could be used for game development on indie parties or use other game projects to funnel more money into your kickstarter game and still under deliver on the game you promised.

Nigger, only characters, enemies and some destructible objects were pixel art in ston.
Backgrounds were in 3D.

I haven't even played it and I know you're wrong.

If you'd played it you would know that some of the backgrounds were 3D

Some sure, but most were 2d.

What complete and utter bullshit. What is this, an episodic mobile game?

Sounds to me like they want a finished game released before their backers start dying off from disease and old age, unlike what Con Man has ended up doing.
I'd be fine with the game being released in a completed state and having the bonus game mode stretchgoals added as content updates post-launch if it means they don't overshoot the release date by a decade and a half.

once again i'm glad i didn't give into a fucking kickstarter

I've read stupider shit on Holla Forums than this.

Truly the best suited genre for incremental releases. Jesus Christ.

nowhere did I imply they should have a final product. I just said they should have something that looks less shit. how long have they been working on the game? if it's more than 6 months into development, it should look a hell of a lot better than that. it will probably improve before release, but that doesn't change the fact that it looks shitty now.

also this

I'm not so cynical about it, I think they can do something good with it, though I view sotn as more focused on it's combat than exploration and story.

If the additional content was delivered for NG+, or outside the story, it'd work fine. I don't think they want to make it episodic or chapter based. Look at how Dark Souls handled dlc, it's probably the best representation of what people would like.

I think kickstarter would be far better for crowd-funding games (if far less popular for taking cash) if a dev team was allowed to dictate ahead of time what would be considered their product release. What is version 1.0? What constitutes a successful launch (and completed game), and what stretch goals are met at the time?

Games are at the point where each release isn't a "release" so much as an "initial launch into mid-to-long-term maintenance". Not everyone likes that, and I understand that, but allowing developers to set their own goals and have the public understand that would probably make kickstarter function a lot better.

kickstarter should also probably cut off funding at a certain point, lots of backers don't realize that throwing more money at it doesn't mean it'll come out faster or make the game better

...

It does, but then they just open paypal donations for 3 months after the date and it's totally out of kickstarters hands then.

That much is arguably fine, but kickstarter and developers forget that they need to be fully transparent about their deadlines, their workload, approach and outline their needs to consider the project a success. That last bit is important, the creators need to be able to say when they're finished, not the fans, and extra money doesn't make the game come any faster.

Most board game producers seem to have worked well on kickstarter. I backed exploding kittens and it gave good updates and delivered ahead of schedule. Even with $8 million in backing, they could mess up, but I never felt I wasn't informed about what was happening in the project. With video games, you get zero transparency and zero understanding of the work they're putting in, and that just makes things far more of a gamble.

Jesus christ, why? And how?

Everybody, let's point and laugh at this asshole, he thought it could somehow have been in the classic style.

HA HA HA!

Yeah, possibly. Then again, literally the only problem that it can possibly cause is that those same people start assuming they deserve more for their 10 bucks because the same jew got 10 bucks from that many other schmucks.

This is not a problem. Those people are violently incapable of handling money, and this is just one way they can bring it back into circulation with minimal harm. If anything it keeps them occupied for a short while before they go back into pretending some sane person's contribution demands a prize to be given to them just for occupying the same space.

Source? I would love to read about this.

YOU FAGGOTS DIDN'T BELIEVE ME!

I TRIED TELLING YOU IGA WAS FRAUD AND INAFUNE'S COATTAIL RIDER BUT NONE OF YOU BELIEVED ME

WHY DIDN'T YOU BELIEVE ME

Is it possible to set your kickstarter so that after a certain point you stop receiving money?

Well we hate everything because everything is crap
There isn't any argument

AFAIk, no. That's why stretch goals exist. And unfortunately KS won't ever care about projects with an excess of pledges because it's more money for them, regardless of whether the people proposing the project are able to manage any amount of money greater than what they asked for.

This means I'm gonna wait until the dlc comes out and if the dlc is free like with the shovel knight dlc that they referred to (and the game is good) I'll buy it. I don't really care what anyone else does, that's just my response to this news.

They said it was going to be a metroidvania from day 1. Are you dumb?

What they need the most is time regardless of money, that's why the idea behind kikestarter or even "support the dev if you want more" is stupidly retarded.
See

wew

That is an actual in-game screenshot, yours are months outdated.

Those are actually the first in-game screenshots. The one the other user posted are newer.
However, the first in-game screenshots came little after the game was funded only to see which shader looked better.
I liked the second one. Dunno which one won.

Daily reminder that Iga is taking advice from Mr. Shitface

That's basically what Shovel Knight did and I think it actually worked in the games favor, I probably wouldn't have bothered playing through all of Plague Knight's campaign if it had been out at launch since there was so much level reuse but releasing way later gave it enough time to avoid burnout.

It was a work in progress, and the game looks better now. So, what's your point?

...

This is some sensationalist bullshit.
Mr. Shitface told him he should use a female character as protagonist, and he did. That's it.

That's not the actual problem, nigger, they wouldn't have released it yet, since there is content yet to be released in Shovel Knight.

Why you deleted your post, user?
It had dubs and shit.

The character is basically just Shanoa. I'm guessing a lot of the game is based on plans he had for an Ecclesia sequel.

I doubt that, he said he originally wanted the MC to be a man, but thanks to Mr. Shitface we have a new qt, and I'm pretty sure is because Iga misunderstood what Mr. Shitface said.
It's funny how the good things Mr. Shitface done have been accident ot half-assed.

Also, is funny to think how that conversation went

I see the Bloodstained Defense Force has arrived

...

How much did they pay you to defend this game?

The same as before. I'm going to wait until it's finished before I decide to pay money for it. Though from what I've seen it probably won't be. The MCs pretty fuckable.

If it's like Shovel Knight, that's fine. Things take time to develop and you're upsetting more people by delaying the base game rather than extra shit the majority care less for. Otherwise it'd be another MN9. Stretch goals are not ensured to be timely, it sucks but that's how it works.

That being said, I haven't backed this and if it isn't the entire base game at launch, I won't drop money for it any time soon.

What good reason is there to shit on it, other than this being Holla Forums, and that being what the cool kids do here?

To keep expectations low? If it's shit and you expected it to be then no big deal. If it's good and you didn't expect it to be then it's a pleasant surprise.

This is what they posted on their forums.

Holla Forums is a pretty shit place to shill considering there's, relatively, few people browsing here and the few that do often torrent their games, not that I am an exception.

Wew lad. See
What's even the point of paying for games unless you can't get them for free?

No one is rising the bar.
If something, the only thing you can expect is a completed game, and it would be disappointing only if it's not.

archive.is/febsS

Regardless IGA is still a hack, just ever so slightly less of one than Inajewne whom he is so desperate to emulate.

He wants all those sweet shekels.
He probably thinks Inafune is god because of all the money he got, and he probably thinks everything Inafune did was right, except for the release stuff, he is probably scared of that.

I honestly doubt he even cares that much about Castlevania or Metroidvanias, he is probably in there more for the shekels than the game.

So Europe doesnt even come to his mind?

So you want Miriam to wear a hijab?

This is like saying that beta rooms are a great example of what the levels are like in the final game.

Wow IGADF, are you guys even trying?

Well, it's self-explanatory. The first screencaps were shit, but that's pretty much because those were the first screencaps.
It's already proved that the game doesn't look like that, or at least there's an screenshot that says otherwise.

Judging by early beta screenshots is really retarded to begging with.

IGA doesn't know how to do good level design, look at how fucking boring the maps were in Lament of Innocence. This game is going to be FotM-tier, if that, and I sure as fuck am not gonna be donating toward his bullshit.

Also Castlevania was never that good. It was the weakest of Konami's main franchises.

I don't see people denying the NEW shots look better but when the first screenshots were shown and got a bad response these were the ones people were talking about.

Posting the recent stuff when they're talking about the actual first shots is disingenuous.

Talking about older screenshots when there are newer is also disingenuous, user.

The irony

Judging by the buzzword density, I would estimate less than 30% of the main game at launch.

[EXTREME LAUGHTER]

Good thing I didn't notice or care when Bloodstained first went on Kickstarter and I've only seen it brought up in Castlevania threads since then. Back to Aria of Sorrow and Circle of the Moon for me.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE

...

...

This is probably going to be another case of "the only good thing about it is the porn."

You sound like a kid that's only seen 'alpha' screenshots from AAA devs that use final assets and are just marketing hype.

This isn't even the first game that did that. Would it be possible to let people choose which extra things they do or do not want to fund? Seems really dumb to me to have to fund A, B, C, and D if E is the only one you want. As long as these things are optional anyway, as opposed to directly building on each other, why not let you fund the optional extras you personally want?

I fully agree. Not that I like any DLC, but the least bad case by far is when it's made entirely after the main game, and only because the main game was really successful and people wanted more. Adding DLC should be the optional follow-up, not the default plan from early stages.

If nothing else, I'd say it should be entirely reasonable to assume that more stretch goals reached means more time will be needed to make it all. If you need X time to make the basic game, obviously making that and more will take more than X time. But if any campaigns have ever specifically pointed that out, I didn't notice.

Whats with the constant cuckchan shilling? Its appeared over the last few days

I feel sick at the thought that this guy somehow did good in the world.

Shovel Knight pulled it off just fine. If they release the full base game with content updates later on that which they provide for no monetary compensation, or for a nominal fee in return for enough content to classify it as an expansion, I'll be content with that. They want their game to get pushed out before it fades into obscurity, which is fine.

Shanoa > Miriam

That's a negative out of 10. See me after class

Also too generic. Don't quit your day job.

Why talk about the first screenshots at all? They weren't even meant to demonstrate the models or textures, it was just showing a difference between two possible post-processing filters.

I don't care what kind of mental gymnastics you're trying to pull, it doesn't make you less of a faggot. This isn't skepticism, this is autism.

And you are iliterate, because it's been pointed out more than once they were even posted was because some people said they thought the first screenshots (which are these) looked like shit and someone posted recent ones instead.

They look better now? I don't see anyone arguing it, they do. But they said they didn't like how it first looked and someone posted the new shots in response to imply that's how it always looked.

Simple as that really. Stop making fucking toad in the hole and just accept some people didn't like what they showed first.

The exact phrasing was "laughed my ass off and lost all interest", and it's apologists like you who allow that sort of kneejerk retardation to fester on Holla Forums, since you can't tell the difference between someone genuinely disappointed in a game and everyday shitposting.

Oh I see, the keyboard telepath

I just want to be able to mod Whip into this game, really. Well, and it not to suck, but that's more out of my control than changing a character model.

Can somebody ITT post more Shanoa and/or Miriam pic please? I have a thing for raven haired woman.

Fucking dropped. I have not followed the news about this game, but since this is the mentality they are going of with I am not their target audience.

Lets see them get dem bux via stronk independent womyn who don't need no man.

So true. Shanoa just combines sexuality and elegance better than any other character I can think of.

Honestly I think half the roguelite games should just have their own dedicated linear mode and then a secondary "roguelike" mode instead of being centered around the roguelite elements

its my imagination or the girl model got a lot better since the last update?

I have no problem with 2d sprites generated via 3d software.
But why the FUCK did they clearly use low poly game assets instead of rendering the high-poly? The whole fucking point of a fixed camera and lighting is that you can pre-render amazing looking backgrounds and foregrounds at very high detail and have it cost nothing in terms of GPU/CPU.

Like, holy fuck, those assets are clearly designed to be rendered on the fly (look at those fucking five sided columns with baked details and NO normal maps).

content update

It's not an artstyle to use the wrong tools for the job. That's just idiocy.

That would work poorly with games like Rogue Legacy.

Everyone knows japs can't into PCs, they can barely design on one.
