how long did it take most of you guys to get to the level cap?

about a month to get to 50 from when I first started playing.

at the heavensward early access launch I played a lot more than I did when I first started and it took me about 3 days to get from 50 to 60.

I still maintain that Lalas have insane muscle density to be able to jump as high as they do and hold up, at all, to the physical demands of combat the way hyur, roes, and miqo'te do.

I also wonder how SE is going to explain the warriors of darkness when they were used as the original warriors of light. They even took down an Ascian in their cutscene, which makes it look like they're capable of wiping out the Ascians whenever they want. Could it be that they come from a different dimension like ff11 where our Ascians are their warriors of light. It could also be they've come to realize that there's a big bad that spawns if Zodiark and the Mother Crystal are out of balance kinda like when Galactus gets killed in Marvel comics.

I'd say a majority of the players are pretty burnt out by this point. It didn't help that 3.0 is going to mirror 2.0 in terms of content drops and 4.0 isn't coming out till like summer 2017 at the soonest. It's going to be a very dry year with SE focusing a lot of its staff on 4.0, which means little can change with how 3.0 is planned.

Id say overall Heavensward was pretty fucking weak content wise and the shitheap that was Diadem just killed off alot of peoples hopes of some form of non linear gear progression with as you said, alot of dry spells inbetween patches. I just hope that 4.0 is better.

It could have been fun, but then SE kneecapped the rewards then it just died overnight. It didn't help that it was repetitive as all hell either. Nor does it help that Diadem looks to have been abandoned by SE.

Diadem was just wasted potential, it had the framework for something good but they forgot the fact that hunts are fucking painfully boring after the first few times and that's all it really has to offer unless you like playing the waiting game as a gatherer hoping that the mobs don't one shot you when you trying to get shit from nodes.

I have a few alts on Levi, but I never spent much time there. I might just wait till 4.0 before I decide where to go and I'll continue to hope SE drops the transfer costs from $20 to something more sane and/or raises the gil transfer limit.

Melee healer. Tags a single target a la Synastry but it's indefinitely length. Self buffs to convert damage done to heals to target in some manner. Various extra buffs to cast on party members such as "the next non-dot non-autoattack crit restores health equal to damage done", and an enemy debuff that's basically Bloodbath for anyone who hits it. Pure heals are weaker than other healers' equivalents, so keeping a good DPS rotation is key to good healing, so it's very punishing to your tank to fuck up the rotation. DPS is probably a middle ground between DPS job and current healers. Maybe a combo/positional system where missing one resets everything, and dots for hots. Another ability to store heals up to a certain amount and release at once, or convert all potential heals back into damage at a reduce rate. That would be the true stance-dancing, knowing when to squeeze extra damage out because you have heals stored and the tank takes extra damage. No need for Cleric Stance.

Could use a lot of fleshing out, but that's the idea I had.

Other than Ala Mihagao, it looks like we'll be teaming up with the missing Scions soon to help the resistance. I'm guessing Monk will be the spotlight job with 4.0 just like Dragoon in HW. There really isn't much known at this point other than Samurai more than likely being one of the three new jobs. The remaining two are thought to maybe include Red Mage. The last one is up in the air, but I think it'll be a dancer/songstress healer. I base that off of the event we had not too long ago with the three female songstresses. Some people want a time mage, but Astrologian is based too heavily on it and Comet is already taken. Chemist is another option for healer, but Scholar has taken too much from it imo.
Yoshi also mentioned something about wanting to do underwater levels kinda like what we got with flying in HW, so we might spend some time out at sea or on islands.

It looks like 4.0 will be out sometime next year as SE is already hard at work on it. We'll more than likely get a lot more news at fanfest.

funny enough if we ever get an expansion about lalafells they would probably go to their homelands which is described as a bunch of islands to the south.

The scholar 50-60 questline suggests those stories may not be true and the 'island lalas' were mhach' spies merely pretending in order to get nymian sailors to take back 'gifts' bringing plagues and demons to eorzea. Possibly including Diablos.

What if Mhach was a lala empire? Would Nanamo Ul'Namo be the rightfull Empress to the Garlean throne should the current Emperor get killed by Regula van Hydrus? It would be pretty fun to explore some islands outside of instances. They could give us boats to travel in with various islands to discover kinda like Diadem, but on the World Map. There was a zone in City of Heroes called Monster Island where giant monsters roamed around. S ranks, etc could spawn there with various A ranks roaming around gathering nodes. It'd be a nice way to push the population away from the main cities at the very least without dealing with instances. The major issue with it would be keeping it relevant, but I can see that happening as long as required gathering mats are only available there and it would be a lot more accessible than trying to get a group to go to Diadem.

The game is pretty slow right now with a lot of people taking a break till 3.3 on June 7th. I'd suggest coming back then or a bit earlier if you need to catch up.

I think Void Ark 2 is coming in 3.3, so it should offer the items needed to boost our weapons and armor to i240.

Why do I play this game?

I would not be surprised if they base a future expansion on the sea since travel via boat has been a thing in a lot of FF games. It would be nice if we get a traditional expansion followed by a HW style expansion. Something like ARR > HW > rapefugee expac > boat expac

I wonder how many healers went through this before they become an asshole versus how many are just assholes to begin with.

The casting isn't bad when the job is built around it. SMN has a lot of timers to keep up with for all your dots, but BLM has only two to track. What I see most MCH/BRDs complain about is shit proc timing/not able to weave OGCDs as well. BLM doesn't really have those problem, and procs are always used the GCD after you obtain them at the very earliest. There's not nearly as much guesswork on the skill-using side. Keeping track of Enochian and the like does take practice and a feel, though.

i imagine its shit like this that drives healers nuts. i know it drives me nuts when it happens, especially when its from someone like the nin who had several lvl 60 classes. and a mentor crown, natch.

i swear by the twelve that mentor crown is the best predictor of terribleness in a player.

I see the crown as being an extension of the shitters from Runescape. Having said that, Mentoring was poorly implemented. Tossing in ex trials into the mentor roulette was really fucking dumb too. Instead, SE should have made it so that completing x trial y number of times at the appropriate ilvl opens it up to that player's specific roulette. That way, players that need help on specific ex trials actually get the help they need rather than a bunch of people that have been grinding brain-dead content for relics.

they also should have differentiated between DoW/DoM/DoL/DoH mentors. I figure someone who has had the patience to max out 3+ DoH crafts, or all the DoL jobs for that matter, likely has some good tips for a new player, or at least can point them to some good resources.

but ive seen far too many people with 5+ level 60 jobs who just do not play like they have that much practical experience.

Me with two guys at my FC ran two dungeons, Arboretum and Pharos Sirius Hard as two DPS and a healer.

First time we got a mentor DRK who never used any cooldowns, failed to keep aggro from everyone, ate AoEs and sometimes just went afk for 5-10 seconds in the middle of the bossfight/trash.

Second time we got a PLD-firsttimer who used cooldowns, kept aggro, didn't fuck up any mechanics. And didn't suddenly afk, i guess.

Do what makes the game enjoyable for you, but in my opinion at least male elezen are unique. Probably half the population is just sluts in bikini armor.

Its not slut armour but all the nice outfits like the red and black ishgard dress where the mail counterpart looks like low level crafting gear. I know nippon has a bad habit of making male armour more uninspired but the slutglamour contingent really forget how much none slutty nice gear there is thats female only.

Normally because most mentors are just egotistical pricks who think they are alot better then they really are. The requirements for mentoring are way to fucking lax for it to be any good outside of grooming alts and friends for the exp buffs and answering really dumb questions in mentor novice chat. The roulette is a waste of time due to having ex trials thrown into them Had a new sch who used Physick twice and succors 3 times in a whole odin trial. Solo healing that was fucking pain and we still lost because couldn't reach the dps check. and was a missed opportunity to not allow mentors to spec into roles or to have 1 on 1 trials to teach sprouts with. A healer main is going to be a fat load of good teaching people how to tank outside of the basics.

The MB is an undercutter's war. As soon as you put something up, other people will lower the price of theirs. There's one guy on Exodus we've highly suspected of botting the MB to undercut the instant someone undercuts him. Your best bet is to get a gatherer to 60 and get some of the endgame crafting materials. Depending on how autistically you farm it, you can amass a pretty decent sum in a few days.

The key is lvl.40 mats, dickweeds dont have the energy to farm for that long. I sell logs and ore from that level at like 1000+ gil each and people leveing carpenter or blacksmith snap them all up in minutes.

This is on Siren of all fucking places.

Miner/Botanist aren't too bad to level, since it's consistent. You do your leves, turn in your turnins, and collect your collectables once you unlock them. If you smash your face against the wall you'll get there without too much trouble.

Does summoner ever become a better solo class over scholar? I find that just standing around and dotting everything while my fairy heals me is more effective than my summoner's tank pet tanking it while I nuke and dot the monster.

I prefer Summoner-Solo after it gets Tri-Disaster, since that means a faster start up, and with Bane,Fester and Death Flare faster potential for burst killing in most situations if you walk into em with a full Aetherflow since you can Tri-Disaster the strongest enemy in the group, Bane to spread it to the weaker Cohorts then Painflare to finish them off and on the chance they are still standing, Trance and either just Ruin II Spam if it is single target or Deathflare em.

Titan-Egi isn't so much a "proper" tank as a distraction to buy you enough time to let you nuke em, so you really shouldn't need to heal him since Quickcast-Summon II works way better (Aetherflow should refund more then enough of your Mana to make that more viable then straight up healing with poor stats for it), and if it is holding up fine enough no resummon seems likely then Quickcast-Shadowflare instead.

Alot of old 2.X shit is worth a hell of a lot of dosh simply because people aren't farming/gathering it anymore. Saw rosewood logs shoot up to 4k per log at one point and 2k fine sand when new houses popped up. Favors are also really easy money if you can stand doing them. But best bet for leveling is to mix grinding with manuals for that exp and potential dosh and leves for pure exp.

SCH will always have better solo potential when theres no time limit due to fairy heals and a strong instant cast heal along side shields. It will take a while but it works, its what I use to solo dragonskins that aren't in Sea of Clouds. SUMs has the lowest HP gain iirc and titan is kinda eh his hp is based off yours when you summon it, so you can equip VIT shit to boost his HP as long as you don't use spur or resummon. but has by far much better damage overall.

Thanks for the tips m8. Although I might just level using DF since the queue times are non existent and galvanize makes healing a non issue.

I read somewhere months ago that 3.3 would end the Dragonsong war. It also said that 3.4/3.5 would start gearing us towards Ala Mihalgo and the next expac. It makes sense now that the War is coming to an end and HW will essentially be over save for the Warriors of Darkness. Yda is still mia somewhere with the resistance,

I'm not looking forward to more skills from 4.0 unless SE starts merging old skills, but that might do funny things to the 1.0 and ARR dungeons. I think Yoshi said no to a skill tree, but I'd like to see a trait tree to add SOME customization to the classes.

I'm also really looking forward to the new universal crafting/gathering gear sets. The class gear was nice back in ARR, but that shit got old fast with how much space it took and fuck melding all of that save for the jewelry, which every doh/dol class could use.

So I just recently resubbed after not playing for about 8 months.

What have I missed? Last I remember, farming Alex was the hot new thing that dropped.

well you got 2 new beast tribes to do for mounts and crafting shit and you got about 4 more dungeons to unlock along with the second part of the alexander raid.

if it means anything I think the second wing of Alexander called midas is a lot better than gordias. You also have void ark which sucks but gives lots of money.

I wouldn't mind actually adventuring into an Atomos or something akin to that in the next raid tier.
To be quite honest I feel like Alexander was a bit of a let down. He's a very cool summon but this whole going inside him to fight mini robots feels like it's diluting his grandeur. Except for A8S. I just got there yesterday and good lord that fight is so much fun.

I've completely ignored this game because it inexplicably has the final fantasy name attached to it.

What would you say this game has over, say, WoW, TERA, and other slightly less than trash MMOs?

The boss fights feel like early ps1 platformer boss fights. Ala avoid this telegraphed attack and attack his weak point. Combine that with the classic MMO design of tank and spank and you have the gist of the combat of the game. Personally, I like that combination since I can still run some older content and still enjoy it. Also the music is so bad it's good. Video related, it was so edgy powerman 5000 tried to sue them for it.

Though you may like it or hate it depending on the one complaint that the combat is too slow. With a global cooldown of 2.5 seconds it does make it feel slower than most other MMOs. I don't mind it since they might as well treated the global cooldown as the ATB system since stacking speed lowers it. That's why ninja and monk's GCD is 2.0 or lower depending on how much speed they have.

Plus most jobs have a lot of off-GCD abilities they need to squeeze between GCDs, and they have everyone's favorite animation lock so you can't just fire everything at once.

Shield Oath is really nice. Doesn't take much to have an insane hate lead and then you can swap back to Sword and feel like a useful member of the party again.

People have been talking about it getting buffs this patch and this other guy complains nonstop about not doing enough damage, although I think he's saying that to say it since he can't play BLM any more.

As far as I'm aware Bard is in an okay spot DPS wise, ignoring the whole Bard wasn't made for turret mode deal. MCH is flavor of the patch because of the whole buffed Hypercharge deal, but Bard is definitely not looked negatively upon.

Should've known, and I wish I could get it through this guy's head. How's MCH end game any way? I wanted to try it out but I have too many other things going to try and relevel archer for it any time soon.

It's insanity. Why did I dump so many hours into this game? Where was the payoff? It must have been the gear treadmill that kept me going. That and the pretty world.

Over time though it felt more and more like a single player RPG masquerading as a MMO. I know the game doesn't mean much to me because if you asked me to name a prominent location or character I couldn't do it. Arguably that's my fault to some extent for not paying attention or listening to podcasts while I play. I do lay some blame on the game for not making me care about the world.

I recently refreshed my sub on this game.
Played a few dungeons, logged in 4 or 5 days, uninstalled.
Square can keep my money, but god damn did this game lose all charm.

Trying to think of when I had fun in FFXIV…like genuine glee was probably with chocobo racing. A single nugget of "ooo I'm having fun" in a sea of "better 'q' up for more shit to do get the next thing in line so I can measure my dick against other faggots who I don't know or care about."

That is a fucking depressing way to go about a game.
I'm not saying FFXIV should be more like WoW, but it needs to have more distractions that are purely for fun.

A litmus test for you. Give me 5 activities in FFXIV apart from seasonal events and golden saucer games that are objectively built to be "fun" and don't tie into any gear treadmill or marketplace. They game/event can offer prizes but the prizes need to be superfluous to the act of playing the game.

There's been so many raids where I just shoot the shit with folks and everyone stays quiet or doesn't say anything. I'll go ahead and admit that I'm a gigantic faggot with a bit of autism but I expect some kind of social interaction in my game if I'm paying fucking 12.99 a month to play "online".

Most companies don't use any kind of VoIP unless they're into end game raiding. Even then that's iffy. There's basically no social scene in this game unless you're into typing only. Maybe it's the culture I came from to FFXIV but I expect guilds/clans/groups/whatever to have a dedicated VoIP for organization and bantz.

WoW has and I'll commend it for one decent idea. FFXIV really only has…chocobo racing and that's about it. Choco racing isn't even that good. They could stand to revamp fishing maybe. Maybe mining and gathering as well. For me it's like those activities are close to being fun but there's still a level of disconnection from the activity. Something like timed minigame to increase the quality/quanity of goods you get from farming mats.

I'm not arguing the devs do the equivalent of shitposting games all throughout the world but a few more distractions that you could maybe play with others for shits and giggles would bring the world more to life for me.

podcasts, youtube, whatever you wanna call it. My point being that while playing you're taking in one or more forms of media outside the game to supplement your engagement as time (the resource your effectively expending) is precious and you can only listen, play, and progress only so much in x amount of time.

This concept is lost on those who don't work for a living.

Oh, yeah I see what you mean now. I wish I had stopped before going through WoD, that was a huge disappointment and I wish I could stop myself from buying it. I'll take what I've got in XIV over what that's become.

Pretty much all the professions have some portion of a "mini game" to them. For the most part its all a stat juggling game that plays with hotbar skill management for the sake of min maxing your outcomes. I like this about the gathering and crafting professions but it feels at the same time lacking.

Like what you're looking at is the skeleton of a better crafting system. I want a timing base game or something to better engage me.

Whatever, you can have a "no risk" mode that allows you mediocre yet more predictable results from crafting and gathering that would be on par with what you get now. This way people who want to take chances with skill get payoffs and those who want to play it safe can still get a satisfying result.

To be clear, I don't see the current hotbar based gathering and crafting mechanics as flawed. I get it. I just think they could have done more with it.

You know they can do more skill based mini games since you can see it in the golden saucer with the crane game and the punch game.

They'll be gone in less than an hour on those servers, with the next set of medium-large servers being sold within the next few hours.

They're much cheaper and there's a whole lot more gil in the game then there used to be, so they'll disappear very quickly.
