Trying to think of when I had fun in FFXIV…like genuine glee was probably with chocobo racing. A single nugget of "ooo I'm having fun" in a sea of "better 'q' up for more shit to do get the next thing in line so I can measure my dick against other faggots who I don't know or care about."
That is a fucking depressing way to go about a game.
I'm not saying FFXIV should be more like WoW, but it needs to have more distractions that are purely for fun.
A litmus test for you. Give me 5 activities in FFXIV apart from seasonal events and golden saucer games that are objectively built to be "fun" and don't tie into any gear treadmill or marketplace. They game/event can offer prizes but the prizes need to be superfluous to the act of playing the game.
How do you play mindless grindy games without listening to podcasts?
Maybe you just listen to shit I guess.
Maybe if the community wasn't shit I'd be more engaged with the people I'm playing with rather than listening to news, politics and other shit while playing.
There's been so many raids where I just shoot the shit with folks and everyone stays quiet or doesn't say anything. I'll go ahead and admit that I'm a gigantic faggot with a bit of autism but I expect some kind of social interaction in my game if I'm paying fucking 12.99 a month to play "online".
Most companies don't use any kind of VoIP unless they're into end game raiding. Even then that's iffy. There's basically no social scene in this game unless you're into typing only. Maybe it's the culture I came from to FFXIV but I expect guilds/clans/groups/whatever to have a dedicated VoIP for organization and bantz.
i.e. what separates casuals from people who genuinely want to improve and grow as a player
there's a lot of shitty companies then.
I could have bought it for a long time. For me it's not an issue of money it's an issue of value. What's more is I haven't even finished the vanilla story yet so I have to complete that gear treadmill before I'll even be admitted into the expansion (from what I've heard).
I understand that's the progression the developers want the player to go through but for me I can't rationalize a monthly sub let alone paying for the expansion at it's current price right now. See my above comments regarding a lack of fun content.
I'd rather pad my nest egg and buy something with more value at some point in the future.
