This is surprisingly good for a free show. Strange that I don't see a lot of threads about it. I was on the fence for a long time, but I finally gave it a go and now I'm all caught up, coincidentally just in time for the 5th season.
Honestly, I assumed the show would take a nosedive after the part where Monty died, but to my surprise it has remained good so far. To be critical, it does suffer from some tired old cliches, from the protagonist being a Mary Sue to most of the antagonists being a generic league of villains. The show also has a self-parody spinoff exhibiting some self-awareness of these faults, which leaves me wondering why they weren't prevented in the first place.
In conclusion: Show is flawed but enjoyable so far. Nora is unquestionably the best girl and my primary reason for watching it even though she barely gets any relevance. I must say giving her a serious side was a considerable mistake that somewhat undermines what made her a uniquely appealing character in the first place for the show's grim setting no pun intended But hopefully that was just a one-time thing that won't get in the way going forward. We'll see.

OP here. What a coincidence. I was just in the middle of watching some of this same guy's video reviews. He points out a lot of RWBY faults that slipped by me because I binged the whole show. Yes, this series has a lot of problems I should have noticed but didn't. It suffers from creative negligence and inconsistency across the board. I'm actually somewhat shocked at this level of incompetence now that I have a bigger picture. I mean, it's one thing for some careless viewer like me to binge through dozens of episodes and miss so many of these faults, but the creators have no such excuse. They assembled the damn thing themselves, piece by piece, a slow and firsthand process. Do they have no quality assessment where they work? Anyway, this was a pretty good wakeup call for me. I shouldn't be so quick to trust my first impressions.
In conclusion, I was careless and I take back some of the praise I gave this show earlier. That said, I'm gonna keep watching it anyway as long as it's free, and my main reason for watching it (Nora) remains mostly unaffected by these fuckups. My original complaint was that writers largely ignore her, but I guess it turns out that's a very good thing.

If anything, the amount of full CG anime has probably increased. Hand-drawn is better but CG is fine too as long as it stays a minority.
Land of the Lustrous is a (so far) good CG anime this season.

CG allows better action scenes within a low budget. My bet is that all shonen animes will be CG in the future.

People tend to think it's inevitable that hand-drawn anime will be replaced by CG anime just because it happened to American animation movies, but the anime industry's very different and there isn't anything inevitable about CG. Not many American shows use it either. Games with sprite graphics also haven't been replaced by 3D graphics.
