Looking back on it I wish battlefront was like battlefield compared to the casualized garbage we got. At least battlefield has destructible environments, inventory based ammunition/equipment rather than cooldowns, and the vehicles and weapons available can be a little bit more complicated than pointing your reticle at an enemy and shooting.

It did not try to be Battlefront 1&2, neither did it try to be Battlefield, they went full casual shooter formula.

Casuals don't like Infinite Warfare and it's because of things all the corporate suits and journalists as well fail to realize:

I dunno those mechanics are pretty neat, I like that you can use the double/triple jump in mid air to change trajectories and fuck with enemies trying to predict where you're going. It still has all the problems COD has always had, but this is really the only innovative mechanic I've seen in a shooter in a very long time so I'll give them credit for that.

CODMW fags are actually to consoles what CounterStrike fags are to PC. Both slow games that aren't nearly as difficult as the players pretend, both modern shooters with small maps, all hitscan weaponry, no interesting movement etc. The most striking resemblance is how both games require you to slow down to shoot accurately. Instead of slowing down organically and shooting when you are motionless to be accurate, as you would in CS, you now just hold down the "let me shoot accurately" button that makes you slow. COD's ADS is literally CS's recoil model dumbed down by several orders of magnitude so console shitters can get into it.

Meanwhile Quake was and still is one of the two FPS with the highest skill ceiling, the other being Tribes. For reference, UT ranks below those two because its movement is simplistic by comparison. That's why people still love Quake, it's not that they couldn't like a new game, it's that noone makes fast, difficult, vertical, tactically complex FPS now that all FPS devs are chasing the COD shekel. Quake pros are playing that console shit Overwatch right now, just for the money Blizzard has hinted at. They all lie through their teeth about the quality or depth of the game because how stupid would they look if they became a big Overwatch star a year or two down the road and after they win their big tournament someone brings up an old quote of them ripping the game apart? I know you gotta drive a fucking economy, use tons of macros to do everything as fast as possible and long-term plan shit in RTS. There is no such thing in fighting games. Arena FPS is between those two as in, you really don't have to have any plans for the third minute at the start of the game (too many things can happen before then) but you do have to think in sequences of moves rather than only responding to whatever is happening right now. Fighting games are all about the immediate situation, short-term thinking.

That's just one category where other games are more complex than fighters. Do you want more?

I'm not backpedalling in any way. Fighting games are extremely reliant on reaction time, more than most types of games, even shooters. And as far as long-term strategies go, how long does a fight typically last? The only thing I'm hearing is "will he spend his metre on this expensive move now or save it?" Other than it seems to be mostly play by play decision making. The commentators for fighting games are great btw, Quake commentators are fucking terrible, for whatever reason.

I feel like you are arguing against the image, as if I were defending the image word for word. Of course competitive fighting games are high skill territory. Any competitive game is high skill territory because when money and fame are on the line some people will go the extra mile and become good. The image is just hyperbole, implying that their skill ceiling may be below RTS and arena FPS. I don't know if that's true, it just seems to me that there is more freedom in other games. There are more potential moves you can choose in Quake or RTS than I can fathom in fighters, at any given time. I started playing SF in December of 2015 and I just went straight to 1000Lp in SFV with almost 20 wins in a row. I don't get why the trailer is this hated.
It was a showcase of what will occur in the singleplayer, a part of the game most of the CoD community doesn't even give a shit about.
I can get some of the hate because of the futuristic theme, we have more CoD games with a SciFi theme than games with a current day theme now, and people are getting tired of the same shit.
There's also the fact that the majority of CoD players play on console, so the boost jump mechanics are fucking hated there due to how shitty aiming is on controllers.
I played the beta of Black Ops 3 and had a bit of fun sliding and wallrunning around, shooting people with a shotgun, but most of the community is focused on the generic assault rifle/sniper camp and sprint combat, and everything going against it like movement on an additional axis goes against that.
The space dogfights also look interesting.
I'm not going to buy this game though because I know how much CoD sucks these days and this game will most likely go the same way but I won't judge a game before it actually comes out.
But I don't get why people suck off the Battlefield 1 trailer so hard.
The devs basically admitted that the game will play the same as Battlefield 4 and the technological difference is so strong, there will most likely be a shitton of setting-rape happening with attachments and automatic weapons galore.

I'm not going to buy either game, but thinking that BF1 somehow looks any better than the new CoD is fucking stupid and the dislike train is mostly fueled by BF fanboyism than actual dislike for the current state of the series.

The real difference isn't modern vs. sci fi though, it's grounded vs. high jump. AW and BO3 are the only games with advanced movement mechanics and that's what COD fans are getting sick off, verticality. They want their slow strafing shooter back, their minimap positioning game where looking at the actual gameworld is the exception to the rule. With how layered the maps have become the minimap isn't that useful anymore and you actually have to use sound cues or general map knowledge to anticipate enemies. Or at least that would be my guess based on my experience with Crysis 2 and 3, which featured the same gameplay as these last two CODs years earlier.

When they're not launching a new full-price game they're launching addons and spinoffs.
Also, COD isn't actually "outdated". They are using cutting edge stuff for the things they do (graphics are top notch, AW and BO3 look great for 60 fps games on CONsoles). It's just that what they do is the same gameplay they perfected a decade ago, with minor tweaks. Technology is there to enable gameplay. If gameplay stays the same then graphics are the only thing that CAN improve.
Battlefield is fundamentally a more interesting game concept than COD. That's where the pros for EA/DICE end. They are milking their cow just as furiously. With a more technically ambitious scenario (large maps instead of small maps, vehicles instead of no vehicles, more players to fill the bigger map) EA/DICE are always forced to work a little harder than Activision to stay competitive, and some of them may be bitter about it after all these years of being number 2 while working harder.

Why would it crash the industry? How does that even remotely make any sense? It's just one publisher. At "worst" it would remove EA from the equation and make the other publishers even bigger by comparison.

Battlefront 3 was complete shit but it sold decently and casuals thought it was a good game.

This will likely be better than Battlefront 3 because there is no way they can get away with infinite ammo, grenades on cooldowns, and vehicle powerups in Battlefield.

Old COD was never fun, the only times COD has ever had anything that remotely resembles fun is the movement system in the most recent two, but they don't excuse the popcorn shooter who sees who first gameplay entirely.

AW or BLOPS 3 because they were the only two COD games to ever implement a mechanic that added some layer of skill to the hide n' seek who sees who first gameplay.

Shitty trailer and bad timing to do a futuristic game since we had all the aforementioned games come out. Not to fucking mention we've already had Black Ops II, Black Ops III, Ghosts, and Advanced Warfare. That makes this the 5th Futuristic COD they've done in a row

The past 5 damn years have been nothing but them sticking their dicks ever so slightly further into the Futuristic setting. I can understand why CODfags are mad. Not to mention that awful cover of Space Oddity and the fact they're locking the COD 4 remaster behind the most expensive editions of Infinite. Even if you don't like COD 4, the very principle of locking a game like that away beyond that infinitely less appealing new game is shitty
