Few days ago they were putting slurry to prevent erosion, but it failed after the sinkhole undermined that whole plan. Rocks are the current meme.
Jose Moore
Not only that but what they did was dump a bunch of large rocks into the hole (the hole in front of the emergency spillway) and dump 'concrete slurry' over it. I cant find much on it but from what I understand the slurry mix is not particularly strong at all.
But its inconsequential because they havent done a damned thing to address that huge area of erosion from the spillway that is digging into that piece of mountain in front of the actual dam. That hole has been getting blasted with 100,000 cubic feet of water per second for the past 5 days. Its gonna be fucking good m8
Blake Nelson
Fucking hell, anyone who's ever laid concrete can tell you that slurry isn't dense enough to hold back a massive spill.

The main spillway is gonna to be fucking obliterated because of the erosion. lmao. It may creep up to the point where it just might desinergrate entirely and forcing them to use emergency release. But they really are trying to pump out as much water 24/7 now so it really is a battle over how fast they can pump water out vs how much rain can throw at them.
Henry Price
About a foot of rain is expected overall, so….
Isaac Wright
PRAY FOR RAIN
Chase Evans
The spillway is already obliterated, the best they can hope for is the upper part doesn't disintegrate. The water has already torn away one side of the spillway all the way down to the bottom. Its a given it will collapse completely. If water starts creeping upwards the entire spillway will collapse and at that point having a dam at all won't even matter anymore.
Ryan Jones
At the current rate the of 100k cfs, the lake drops like 4 inches a hour? or something like that so I dont think enough rain is going to be enough because of the rate they have been pumping through the main spillway. So 1 foot of rain wont cut it but for how long the rest of the raining season we might expect some flooding.
I think it dropped a few feet already so we have to be lucky if they use the emergency spillway.
Like what this user said, the spillway really has to break down or stop working and rain has to come in for them to really worry about using the emergency spillway again.

You do realize that the lake takes in more water than directly falls on it? Anything that falls on the mountains near it, runs in to the lake. The amount it will take is far greater than however many inches will fall. Also the rain will melt some of the snow on the mountains as well, further increasing the inflows. Why do you think they wanted to drop the lake levels by 50 feet if theyre only getting < 1 foot of rain over the next week?
Adam Howard
I LOVE YOU LEVEE-CHAN
Nolan Ward
Here is a video of why I dont think there will be enough rain because look at the current level of the rain. To me from my estimate that looks like around at least 10-15 feet? I cant really tell. Also I NEVER heard of rainstorms being measured in CFS.
So what we can only hope for the destruction of the dam in order of most likely to least is.
Also want to add that they cant pour concrete or really work in general during the rain. So even regular rainfall just add to the current stream of flooding. Regardless they are having some major flooding.
The snow hopefully actually if kek is real, will freeze the spillway but only one can hope. But we really only have until all of March and april to wait and see if something happens, but they say most of the snow will freeze so that gives them MORE time to pump 100k cfs out.

They're basically only fixing the emergency spillway. They can't do anything with the main spillway at all, the bottom half is gone and it would take months to fix.
Nolan Carter
They arnt using it because it will break and 20 feet of the lake will just pour out. So really its a lose/lose because the water behind the spillway is still getting thrown out the lake and a spillway is being damaged, if they used the emergency spillway then it might have broke and all that water would have stilled went downstream anyways but in a greater force.
Elijah Hill
I just realized something. People are saying that the concrete is not steel reinforced. With the bottom chunk of the ramp missing, that's a lot of weight on a steep slope. There can be a happening of unanticipated proportions.

Their main concern is the integrity of the spillway on the left side. The right is already compromised, nothing to fix. If the emergency spillway degrades and weakens the main spillway then its game over man.
They might as well be fighting a volcano at this point. Its already begun to rain in Ororville.
Evan Thompson
Genesis 7:11 – Flood begins on 17th day of 2nd month
Christian Lopez
I dont think there would be MASSIVE chunks but it would be crumbling and eroding away pretty bad. Also new concrete needs time to settle, the ones they are pouring wont last long if water goes over the emergency it will erode pretty quick.
But water isnt going over the emergency spillway and only the main spillway. They cant fix it because then they have to stop the 100k cfs flow. Its only over if water starts going over the emergency spillway and it gives out. I would like to see what 250k cfs looks like though.

Are there any up to date pictures of the spillway? Everything I can find is from 2-3 days ago so I can't gauge how much erosion is taking place. The fact that the part of the spillway below the crater hasn't washed out entirely is a good sign for their chances of making it through this, but they're going to have to flow it hard from now through the end of snow melt. Also does anyone know what the maximum level that the spillway can drain to is? I'm guessing 850 ft.

Downside: Oroville and most of Norcal that isnt the Gay Area and Sacramento is hardline republican. So these are Trump voters being affected.
Upside: Dam bursts, it causes a huge surge that will flow down the feather river and into the heart of downtown Sacramento and fuck it up properly. Maybe Brown shouldn't have diverted money away from infrastructure and towards programs for illegal immigrants and a train to nowhere. :^)
Oroville is a monster of a reservoir, it's deep and it's huge.
If it breaks it will cause huge amounts of damage. Epic levels. Everything 30 miles downriver will look like the surface of the moon. Last time something like this happened was in 1928 with the St. Francis Dam down near LA.

That was my understanding, that it was not so much the intensity of the storm, it's the size and longevity of it. Reportedly, it will be raining enough to more than fill the lake above the dam, and that will put enormous pressure on an already damaged structure built of soil that is already soaked.
But I heard just today they had lifted the evacuation order too, so what's up?

Depends of the project and how much oversight there was.
That's true but nearly all of it is from the form of private venture they have, not actual state infrastructure. If you get caught cutting corners for state infrastructure, it's death penalty (because it will be used by your political opponents to get rid of you… They regularly imprison even politburo members for corruption, as recently as 2012).
Basically it's the reverse of the west, in the west if you fuck up civilian infrastructure the civil lawsuit will bankrupt the company, the wrongful death lawsuit is literally the only thing that might send a CEO in jail. On the other hand you can skim and overcharge all you want on government contract because the contract is always more or less attributed for political and politicians will always back the company that pay their campaigns.
In China it's the opposite, no one care how many drones may die in an ill build housing project… but responsibility before the State with a big S is something way more serious.

If you ever go to China drive a little ways outside the main cities. You will quickly find there are hundreds of empty modern looking Hollywood tier houses and apartment buildings no one is at all wealthy enough to live in these places but someone is pouring money into their construction. Why do you think all the chinamen are buying property in Canada? It's cause almost everything in China is made of sand and paper. China's only economic strengths are its critical shipping industry and incredibly massive and cheap labor force if western countries would just stop using Chinese labor the Communist regime would collapse very quickly. Fellow Califag here Holy shit that was an insane storm. A big squall line passed through the region and caused some massive flooding. 56,000 people lost power as a result of the storm according to Edison. Massive torrential floods lining streets in many parts of the region. Meteorologists called this the most powerful storm to hit SoCal in years. Rivaling the El Nino of 1997-1998

The worst of the storm is over. But that said, Oroville is expecting more rain throughout the week. Not only is it in worse condition now, but Californias other emergency flood networks are also in critical condition as a result of these drought-ending storms, so keep an eye on that. Apparently at the dam repairs are now being delayed as a result of the storm causing a bunch of debris that need to be removed. It does not look good for those NorCal liberal faggots

TOP KEK reviewjournal.com/traffic/storm-closes-part-southbound-i-15-california-s-cajon-pass-fire-engine-falls-highway Storm closes part of southbound I-15 at California’s Cajon Pass; fire engine falls off highway >A five-lane, 3-mile stretch of southbound Interstate-15 is down to two lanes in California’s Cajon Pass after a portion of roadway washed away, causing a fire engine to tumble off the side of the highway. The partial I-15 southbound closure is between Highway 138 and Cleghorn Road, according to San Bernardino County Fire spokesman Eric Sherwin. Initially all southbound lanes were shut down. As of 9:30 p.m., authorities expected the partial closure to last several hours, with additional closures possible this weekend depending on weather. No firefighters were injured when the engine slipped off the side of the roadway, Sherwin said. The engine was initially dangling over an edge when water erosion from ongoing storms caused the roadway to suddenly fail Friday night. All firefighters on board were able to escape before the engine fell a few minutes later.

Dam fuckery afoot?
OK, so I've found 8 dams upstream of Oroville, wanting to see if they were holding back water to lessen the inflow into the Oroville Dam, and only 3 of them have reported any data since the 8th.
The ones reporting are Antelope Dam, Frenchman Dam and Grizzly Valley Dam. None of them seem to have done anything significant since Oroville started and they are currently reporting 109 %, 75 % and 92 % of nominal capacity.
The ones not reporting since the 8th are Indian Ole Dam, Lake Almanor Dam, Butt Valley Dam, Bucks Storage Dam and Little Grass Valley Dam. None of them were doing anything dramatic before they stopped reporting and were reporting 38%, 80 %, 89 %, 92 % and 80 % of nominal capacity. That was of course before the heavy rains on the 8th and 9th.
I'm not sure if the lowering was done as a precaution. They had two minor earthquakes a few days ago, and it has been known for a long time that raped lowering of the lake causes them. See archive.is/rBrST
Mason Ross
Thanks a bunch.
It seems to be a precarious balance. Are there any comparisons showing if the erosion has progressed over the last week?
Owen Adams
Not that I found. I would have assumed they would stop the outflow for a short while each day to check the damage, but they are not doing that. What I know is that they claim the erosion at the spillway has hit the bedrock and has thus stabilized. The water flowing down hill is more or less clear which supports this. As for the station not reporting, maybe buffer overflow?
Jaxon Jenkins
Any idea if those dams have that old earthen "controlled failure" measures, where if they overflow they slowly fail and erode away, because they were only meant to be temporary dams?

No idea. Nothing seems to have outright failed since there are no news about them, so it could be anything from instruments getting fucked by the rain to database issues.
No idea. All but Indian Ole Dam are old rock and soil dams but I have no idea if any are designed to fail predictably
Flashboard and buttress means a fairly vertical wall held back by regular buttresses. Most likely made out out concrete. Hydraulic fill means earth, sand and rock is flushed into place by water, the flow designed so that the material deposits where you want it. Overall strength is ass so you build thick.
Jayden Richardson
I wonder how many people moved out already after all this shit. The cost of living in Oroville is lower than the national average so I imagine not very many could afford to leave
Based on the past trends inflow should peak at midnight unless more rainfall drifts past the dam. They have lowered the outflow again so we should just about reach static flow by then unless something else happens.

DOOMER DOUGS TAKE ON THE DAMN DAM archive.is/w6eCj OROVILLE MAIN SPILLWAY FAILING 2-19-2017
Well, it looks like the view the “sunlight reflection” of a couple days ago was really a breach in the sidewall of the main spillway. The main spillway is like a H with the main water flow groove, and a side wall on both sides to keep the water flowing down the central channel. If I understand what I am seeing here, up above the original “hole,” back towards the spillway top, on the left side, you had a FAILURE of some of the concrete wall sections. This allowed the water to DIVERT from the main “channel, and shift left OUTSIDE THE CONCRETE CHANNEL, AND START ERODING, DIRECTLY ERODING THE DIRT THAT IS RIGHT NEXT TO THE SPILLWAY. The situation is you now have TWO SEPARATE DOWNSTREAM WATER FLOWS: THE FIRST ONE INSIDE THE SPILLWAY AND THE SECOND ONE EXITING THE WALL BREACH AND ERODING AWAY THE HILLSIDE, OR EVEN GOING BACK UNDER THE MAIN SPILLWAY AND CAUSING FURTHER DAMAGE TO THE CONCRETE SLABS ETC. Yep, it is now a done deal in my opinion. The failure of the main spillway is now INEVITABLE. It will eventually fail, all the way from the sidewall breach, the one between/below the power lines, and the top of the spillway. The erosion undercut going back up towards the spillway top, on the left side first, a day or so ago, and IT IS LIKELY CUTTING UNDER THE ENTIRE WIDTH OF THE MAIN SPILLWAY AND WILL LIKE CAUSE A SEPARATE BREACH ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SPILLWAY WALL. The whore media and politicians will spin this as best as they can, but we are going to see criminal charges out of this down the road. The failure to issue a mandatory evacuation order is an act of moral cowardice, cynical political opportunism and will destroy California for a generation. Nowski, amigo I am saying the state of Jefferson is going to be born out of this, since the hatred of the deplorables for that SCUMBAG GOVERNOR MOONBEAM HAS DONE TO THEM WILL HAVE NO LIMIT. The main highway/freeway is I-5 and over it comes the tens of thousands of trucks that supply the “I-5 Corridor.” The rail lines are also linked to the I-5 corridor and carry every thing the entire coastal PNW, Portland, Seattle need. You do have options, 101 Coastal Highway, 395 through Eastern Oregon, but they are not credible for mass truck transit.
Cooper Myers
(checked) cont. In my opinion, the level of economic damage to the Agriculture Industry will be massive. It is not a case where you “can’t” get citrus fruit, or fresh vegetables, it will be a case of it will cost you more to import citrus from Florida, Texas or Arizona. And I will say again to those of you who somehow think Governor Moonbeam is going to skate on this, especially if San Francisco Bay is full of floating corpses, it ain’t going to happen. The way the game works is the media and political whores get to do whatever they want until they screw up so bad people die. At that point, the larger system, the NWO , the globalists are quite willing to throw a mid level player like Governor Moonbeam to the howling wolves, if it will keep their butts out of the wolf pit. Nope, Moonbeam is road kill because the real “they” the 300 families that rule the world, won’t hesitate to slit his throat to keep the mob happy. I live with Snowflakes, Nowski and when the Snowflakes lose one third, to one half of their drinking water, they are going to chop Moonbeam into tiny pieces.

I thought the problem with the droughts was that all the ground water was rapidly being used up. I have a really dumb question;- Why can't they pump the water back to the huge empty water tables underground?
Kayden Powell
Oroville lake has started rising, waiting for the flow rates that will be coming in about 10 minutes.
The Don Pedro dam is at 97 % capacity and they've shoad their flow rate number a few days ago for some reason. Remember that rain is expected top peak in about 5 hours or so. Talk is they are gonna have to open their spillway floodgates as well and fuck over the river system down stream.

First, they're not set up to redirect such massive quantities of water anywhere they want. Second, if you dump water rapidly on porous soil, then it erodes it. Not sure if this is exactly what you had in mind.

pretty sure I saw on the news last year some parts of California that had all the farmers drilling deeper and deeper wells until the cost of digging even deeper wells became too expensive. At the same time some areas of land were starting to sink down a bit as the underground water reservoirs were empty and collapsing on themselves without the support of the water. If there was a way to run a large pipe system to these areas they could just pump it back down all the well bore holes. I'm sure one of the reports said the underground water reserves had taken millions of years to fill up but only decades to deplete.
David Anderson
The problem is aquifers are so great because they sort filter the water as it dribbled in; but if they just cut a hole and let it all flow in the water would be dirty and polluted as fuck. It wouldn't solve California's water problems, and would only make them much, much worse in the long run.

Connor Jenkins
(checked) It's basically this, really. This dam is a big, glaring hole in the narrative that Cali is the perfect model of how the US should be and highlights the president's message that our infrastructure is failing.
Wyatt Morgan
It would probably work but you'd need to filter all the drinking water. It's not the greatest problem as a lot of town utilize lake water that needs to be filtered for the same reason. Good luck getting commies to engage in long term plans though.

Was following this thread yesterday but fell asleep. Checked the news and there's nothing much new so I guess there was no disaster. What's the current sitrep? Was there less rain than expected or is the peak flow not expected for another few hours? Also, are the liberal lefties blaming it all on so called 'global warming'?
Christopher Torres
According to
the water levels are starting to spike again, but it's dark out in Oroville right now so you wouldn't be able to see shit. No alerts as of yet.
BUT another levee has broken according to
The entire infrastructure for water control seems to be coming unglued, and we still have a couple of months before we see any real snowmelt.
This is gonna be a bad year for Cali w/ regards to water trouble. But the opposite of usual.
Zachary Ortiz
It'll be raining more tonight. Though snowmelt will probably put it over in the long-term.
Justin Butler
Are there estimates of the amount of snowmelt? And I presume the snowmelt is part of an annual cycle so why is it so bad this year? More snow to melt or same volume of snow just melting faster? Or…. has previous land like forests and scrubland which would absorb plenty of water been replaced with housing and shopping malls etc?

Current forecast is we get heavy rain keeping the flows up today and then just 4 days until the next round of severe rain, unlike the 12 days last time.
Dam stats says inflow stopped rising even as rain was falling. Commies are rigging the game somehow. Check the buzz today to see if those rumors of a crack are true.
Jaxson Gomez
Nah, there is too much flat land in the way and the existing waterways are too shallow for the flood wave to keep it's momentum. It'll just flood a really wide area.

The worst parts are LA and SF, both of which are supplied by aqueducts and pumps. Central valley flooding isn't gonna do much to them unless they get biblical storms. SF receives lots of water naturally naturally but LA wouldn't be able to survive without actively pumping water and maintaining water tunnels and aqueducts.
Sebastian Ramirez
Hollywood riots when?
Tyler Kelly
Should they just stop damming these things altogether, then perhaps it would not flood.
Jeremiah Bennett
The pumping happens on the other side of the mountains from LA. It's an interesting situation. LA is so vulnerable with a high population and no natural fresh water flows. SD might be a little better.
Wyatt Richardson
Earthquake strikes Levee breaks. Carnage.
DEHUMANIZE YOURSELF AND FACE TO THE BLOODSHED
Evan Thomas
I don't think the the game is rigged. They were just really being triple niggers when they thought the emergency spillway was going to save them, and hence using the regular spillway at a fraction of its capacity. To go from a level of 850 to 875 will take a net inflow of about 25000 ft^3/s for one whole week. Running the outflow at 75000, means you can handle an inflow of 100,000 ft^3/s or about 8260 acre-feet/hour for a weak an still only have a 25 ft rise.
Caleb Turner

but then there'd be no big cities or produce industry in Cali, cause there's not enough naturally-occurring water for either of those things LA is in an area that (before LA was there) was a scrub desert
Owen Butler
jewtube video from yesterday by a taco that gives a pretty good overview of the situation at the dam. Doesn't go into the rest of the dam system, weather, anything like tht though. Interesting part is at 14:15 when he's talking about the controls for opening and closing the spillway. It's all being run on generators since the powerplant is at a risk of flood from the backed up pool at the bottom of the dam.
It's 17 minutes long and worth the watch imo if you're interested in this. Most of the video is him on site.

Thanks.
No, not the outflow. Just look at the inflow from the previous rains and this one. The previous ones peak about 24 hours after the rain whereas in this case it started to drop even before the rain peaked. People have looked into it and it seems at least some of the 5 reservoirs that have stopped reporting are filled to the brim.
Sebastian Murphy
*Coastal desert It was rolling green hills of rice grass, a tall, dry type of grass that is typical of coastal deserts. However, the soil of the basin has always been very fertile. In addition, most Southern California cities started near rivers (The Los Angeles River and the Santa Ana river respectively). The cities that started directly along the coast were started by land developers because it was dirt cheap back then and could be made into a massive profit via ranchos or real estate or as a central train depo (Huntington Beach.etc)
Gavin Harris
That was what i suspected was going on.

They are definitely up to something. That spray half hidden by the tree in the "spray" view is from the spillway. Since yesterday there has been a huge plume to the left of it that's much much taller, and it seems to be originating from below the dam proper. That would make it about 900 feet high.
It looks like condensation, but there is no condensation generated above massive sprays in the spillway so it's not just damp foggy weather.
Dam webcam: http:// www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=29411
Brayden Gomez
Looks like a shitload of water vapor, like someone is creating a bunch of steam for some reason. seems to have stopped, at least for now. Maybe it's related to the power plants there?
Liam Bailey
Ex-Californian here.
I left that shithole five or six years ago; perennial/annual crops and animal farmers were being forced out due to water concerns/restrictions (they are forced to pay a higher rate than residential obv) and ever shrinking business overhead. It's incredibly ironic because I moved to Asia, and a shit ton of the produce at the local Costco is from… California. Texas lured away the struggling dairy farmers (lower operating costs and bonuses like subsidizing/expediting cattle shipment from CA to TX, important since if ur cows dont get milked on schedule, you end up with nonproducing cows). Farmers of high water demand crops have either switched to other crops, or given up farming, so we're mainly left with long term grove type crops (walnuts, etc.). Which makes me sad bc I grew up spending summers eating yuge cherries and peaches right off the trees.
Anyway. Few things to address.
1. Ground level/underground water sources: ground in the valley has been sinking for DECADES. Its dozens of feet lower than it was in the early 1900s. In some mom and pop shops, you can see very old photos recording ground level relative to sea level. Has to do with slow draining of underground aquifers. Probably accelerated in more recent decades.
2. Whoever is in charge of water management is a fucking retard; they dawdled on water storage facilities so now that the water is there, they have no fucking place to keep it. They also thought they needed to hoard recent rainfall "for the summer", when they could have looked at the snowpack a month ago (pic related) and just left the shit start draining early.
3. Jerry Brown is a useless fuck.
4. Urban density is bloated. I'd bet big money that the bulk of residents in counties won by HRC think farmers use up way too much water and are therefore the source of all evil. You water crops twice a day. People flush toilets, water driveways, fill swimming pools, build residential communities with fake lakes/ponds in desert areas, water their driveways/lawns, take hour long showers, and drink water. You still need more water to grow more food to feed these dumb fucks as they multiply. The icing on the cake is the complaint of produce prices, and the expectation that this shit just appears on store shelves and should be dirt cheap and "organic". Why even waste the water on people whose only contribution is to the self-inflating service industry? They don't even produce anything.
My grandfather was a WW2 vet, then farmer for many years, so my view is skewed perhaps. IMO all the rain isn't a huge deal unless you're an idiot who lives in one of three places: a floodplain, a canyon/ravine, or beneath a dam.
I have heard Mammoth/Big Bear have reported about 500ft of snowfall this season. Confirm/deny?
Andrew Turner
My thought was that they were drying out the turbine halls since those have apparently had some flooding.
Christopher Rodriguez
Yes, Mammoth reported just over that for the season.
Cameron Butler
Why did the streamer seach engine tf out of "cloud seeding" halfway through the video?

In other California water news, the spillway at Lake Berryessa is active for the first time in years. The hole is 72 feet wide at the top and the water flows through a tube to the river at the bottom of the dam 750 feet below. The water flows gast enough that it could drain an Olympic sized swimming pool in 2 seconds.
Check it out, it's pretty cool.
Carson Gutierrez
Norovirus is potentially a VERY dangerous disease to the old and weak. It's highly resistant to antivirals and can fuck with your intestines permanently if you get a bad strain. Individual viruses from the sick of norovirus hang around the air around where the sick was spilt even after cleaning, it is HIGHLY contagious and can survive for a month slowly evaporating off a surface that has been thoroughly cleaned with a mop with generic antiseptic/soap several times over, even with stronger antiseptic and bleach in some cases. But yes, it can also be spread via feces and poor hygiene.
I had the damn thing not too long ago, absolutely horrible disease, couldn't eat nor drunk for 3 days, had to go to hospital, went on a liquid drip. The damn thing gave me anal tears and gastrointestinal problems. I haven't shat properly ever since, sometimes loads of mucous and sometimes blood. It has also been known to cause agressive irritable bowel syndrome.

They are going to ramp down and stop the flow out the spillway today so they can evaluate the damage and try to clear the pool below that has flooded the power plant outlets. They expect it to remain stopped for a couple of days to allow them to do this.
