ITT: describe your ideal vision of a perfect MMO.
TFW there will never be a MMO like this
After three years of nerfs almost perfect, moderately challenging game turned into rimjob simulator.
Fuck sega.
PSO2 was fantastic, though admittedly I wish it was more open.
Just give me a huge world to explore and make it so that teamwork is mandatory. Let me change the world instead of having it as a theme park.
My ideal MMO would be an FPS with absolutely no RPG bullshit and a heavy focus on weaponry. It would take place in some war-torn country where different players are apart of political party that are trying to cease control.
You could actually "beat" the game if your party successfully gains control of the entire country, where at that point the server would reset.
It would have PAYDAY 2-style weapon customization, (that game is awful, but Goddamn it has a fantastic weapon system, equipment also have the same level of customization), different ammo types and ballistics.
I'm not sure a game like that would even be popular, though. I'm also not really going too in-depth because I don't feel like getting autistic tonight.
$5 a month sub cot
$1 a month per sub goes into a pot
if you're full on autistic enough, the company will hire you
You form RP groups and get paid per month per sub that you engage in RP with
this encourages massive RP guilds of only the most autistic weebs with the best understanding of the lore, but only ones that are cool enough to actually attract people to voluntarily join their guild
Seconding
This. And make it possible to exclusively play as a gatherer or crafter like in FFXIV.
FFXIV was 90% of the way to being the perfect MMO, I think. But then Square had to fuck it up by making raiding the only reason to play the end game. The upcoming Treasure Dungeons and Deep Dungeons will only last for a couple of months before everyone goes back to raiding.
Diadem would've been a step in the right direction for non-linear content, but Square fucked that up too by making it a required step in raid gearing instead of making it a total alternative to raiding. Though they probably would've needed more Diadem-like dungeons for that to completely work.
Face of Mankind, but actually functional.
etc
Guild Wars
I can't see the appeal of perma death in MMO's, whats the point of wasting all your time only to lose all that progress completely.
It already existed.
>Massive trove of emotes dances and expressions, because.
>PvP dueling, PvP group fights, and PvP chase. Chase mode can be described as PvParkour.
I dunno. I just want a less grid-annoying version of Wakfu to just sink into.
Isn't that kind of what Planetside 2 is?
...
I just want an MMO where the RPG aspect is more than just a bunch of numbers. If the depth of your character is that its a tank, which means it stands in front of big monsters taking damage, then fuck that shit. Give me back fom.
An MMO with friendly fire on
Any good MMO, ever, should always have open PVP everywhere with a possible exception of spawning areas.
I would say there should be open PvP everywhere except large towns. Also to balance it a bit make there a penalty for attacking players who are way under your level. However there should also be a challenger/duel system where you can challenge another player and there would be no penalty if the challenge is accepted.
I know TERA restricted open PvP in towns, and high level players would just camp outside killing anyone passing through gates. Usually players bored of the game and couldn't care about penalties.
I think PvP in towns should be allowed, but have a patrolling guard npc that can instakill/freeze anyone drawing first blood, provided the guard can see them. Players can hire npc bodyguards to escort them through shady areas of town.
That only works if there's no level/tiered gear system and all players are on relatively equal footing
Meaning, it will never work because without that incredibly hamfisted carrot, nobody will play the game
I like the way DarkScape does it where town guards are OP as fuck, so if you walk into town "skulled" because you attacked someone, the guards will target you and kill you.
I just like the idea of towns having "that area". Places where criminals and fences florish and are hard to crack down on.
Maybe even have local politics that can be bribed/corrupted to allow crime nests, or let high level players join police squads that flush them out regularly.
I'd love it if someone could come up with a system that makes guilds responsible with policing their own territory. Alternatively, one could make police or mercenary guilds that could fill the same role.
Your dreams are too big for real life, user
Nice things don't real
You pretty much just posted the reason most of the ideas in this thread aren't implemented in any games.
Permadeath? Yeah, I'd just love a character I spent 3 years with being lost to a ganker using hacks.
Player created content? I'm sure the devs are just dying to waste so many resources removing all the Piccolo dick or "All achievements in 20 seconds" dungeons instead of giving us meaningful content.
Player based economies/cities/police forces and heavy reliance on non-instanced content? Oh, boy! I get to do things like be forced to pay every last piece of gold I have to the giant guild that has gankers posted in new player areas only for them to decide they want to kill me for the lulz anyway, making it so that anyone who didn't start the game during open beta is pretty much fucked. Don't forget how they're also in cahoots with the bounty hunter guild, so good luck trying to get other players to liberate the low level areas.
It's infuriating to realize that the reason we don't have these nice things is because people choose to act like some random bandit from Fist of the North Star when there are no consequences to their actions.
Half of those could easily be solved by devs that aren't retarded
The real reason we don't have those things is that it would take time and effort to do right without making it exploitable, so the end result is always no fun allowed
So is BDO good or a waste of time? I've been meaning to get back into MMOs but they're all shit. Last two I've played and actually had fun with were Spiral Knights (RIP) and Tera. Never got to see the golden age of MMOs but I gave WoW (and some of its clones) a try and was bored out of my mind.
If SMT Imagine had an adequate budget, better world design, better negotiations, less grinding, less microtransactions, better dungeons, better quests, more than one body type and an engine that isn't shit, it would've been flawless.
Cave's own glaring faults aside, Atlus clearly made next to no effort to give the game the support it needed. Irresponsible.
I basically described BDO back during the Korean CBTs. It's still alright now, but it was downright perfect back then. It wasn't like any other MMO and I couldn't think of a single person who disliked it. However Daum slowly took out shit like player trading, increased RNG bullshit, added the cash shop, and made levelling up a massive grind. It was so painful to slowly watch my perfect MMO turn into another Korean RNG grindfest. I do still enjoy it, but it's a shadow of its former self.
Please, stop doing this shit. Levels in any game are there for only two reasons, 1, to add content in the laziest possible way and 2, for easy addiction.
I don't want fucking levels anymore, I want worlds that feel right.
Still I want an MMO that makes me play for reasons other than stupid leveling. Make it so the world is dynamic.
NPCs are overrated, find a way to make players keep cities safe. One of the ways you can do it is by giving a sense of ownership.
Ok.
No Brazilians
...
SWGEMU doesn't have space yet. I just wanna fly again.
I don't see any reason for an RPG without levels to not exist. It's just arbitrary number for marking the progress of your character which made few stuff in paper rpg easier to do
Sounds doable but unfortunately too ambitious
What type of progression do you think would be better then?
otherwise its a pointless complaint.
World of World News?
Was thinking more of a modern fantasy type setting, where another part of the continent can have old-world style Tolkienesque towns
...
Wow very want, much fun
Kill yourself.
Permadeath is shit unless you can recoup your lost progress quickly.
ARK did it pretty well where you lose you inventory and respawn back at the start, but you don't lose your recipes or character upgrades.
NO U
jk
What is wrong with that? I think it sound like pretty much everything anyone would want in an MMO.
You understand what I am talking about
>Take the combat system from Chivalry: Medieval Warfare because it feels realistic and fun and also add magic shit
Basically like PlanetSide 2 except fantasy/medieval and good mixed with Mount and Blade without the over head map and everyone is a player. I feel like if this was made I would be a lost fucking cause and would never leave my parents basement.
What if the only reason nobody makes good vidya on the scale of an MMO is because we're not ready for it, and it would destroy humanity
I'm not them, but gear/spells. You go around finding progressively better stuff and have to use it in unique/creative ways in order to combat the environment or other players.
Then it's just the same problem
Sidegrades and unique stuff is the way to go
Tiered gear is far, far worse than levels
Most games generally have both, as a way to justify the level system
Hello Holla Forums,
I hear you're looking for the perfect MMO. Please step into my office.
Think of it this way.
Instead of leveling your character, you gather money to get better equipment.
this will never happen unless you start developing your own MOO/MUD or something
you'd have a stable player base of about 17 russians and one BR
I'd love to play any sort of MMO that takes place in a massive simulated world that essentially gets along just fine without any human players. Pretty much Dwarf Fortress (dumbed down obviously) and EVE with a mix of human and npc characters. All resources would be collected in game, and maybe you could hire players and npcs to work for you
Something like SAO. That ends up killing all the faggots that login.
I've been kicking around an idea for an RPG that focuses on the passage of time, so your characters get old and die but pass on some of their proficiency in their skills to your next character, so you can have like a historical clan of blacksmiths or whatever.
Isn't this Chronicles of Elyrea?
I could go on all day.
Dear god. This is almost word for word the game I want to make. My idea has more spelunking and balrogs though
Basically the metagames of Planetside 2, ESO's PVP, and Chromehound's PVP in space.
An "arena" version of EVE, with focus on FPS and group warfare, attack-defense style.
It's pretty complex, but not impossible. A more advanced version of what we've already seen before.
