whats your opinion of the best game ever, and why? discuss
for me its final fantasy 6 (3 in the USA). the game has a cool story, all kinds of ways to build your characters up, great music and you can spend 40-50+ hours completing it (getting all the characters to lvl 99 completing all side-quests and finding all the espers and hidden items) been playing it for like 20 years and its still my favorite game. my favorite characters were always shadow(cuz ninja and random dog attacks), sabin(blitz were so cool and don't cost any mp) and terra.(badass mage)
Why needing an economizer when every WoR enemy had magic, every character could easily have 999 MP and use Osmose ?
In addition, you could just use that second accessory slot for more useful things. The choice is yours.

Awesome story, awesome controls, great fighters to fly, fun difficulty curve, hidden bonus missions, great sound design. Everything about it was perfect. I also really loved that there was absolutely zero Force bullshit in it - it was a game about soldiers being soldiers.
I'd pay full AAA price for an HD remaster with modern graphics and completely untouched everything else
Tyler Torres
I think F-Zero on the SNES was one of the best games ever made.
There are 4 cars, there is nothing to fiddle with. This is a game about racing, not being autistic.
There are no weapons or attacks. This is a racing game, not a murder simulator.
Plebs still can't handle the speed of F-Zero, I am a Master.

The coliseum had all sorts of broken, but I usually began by turning several Elixirs into Marvel Shoes Always a good thing to have.

I'm playing the HD remake of after years and fucking loving it way more than any other ff besides 8 and 6, when are we getting a fucking HD remake of ff5-6, fuck
Noah Torres
It happened. Their idea of HD consists of badly done "HD sprites" which are fucking horrible. See the iOS and PC releases for more details.

i prefer to divide items up. i like to keep edgar with the genji gloves and the Offering with atma weapon and illumina. and give terra the economizer. and with the stat boots available you can get your characters to the point where they can't even be hit because of speed and have near 100% evasion.(odin)

another classic. i even went back after nearly 5 plays through and got the saturn version just to play the extra (small) level. one of the best rpg's ever.
Elijah Miller
Of course I mean one like the PSP version of 4 with sprites redone and hq textures and stuff, i know about that abortions of mobile ports that went to steam
Nicholas Murphy
mah nigga.

You can steal economizers from the Brachiosaurs. It's a rare steal though, so brace yourself. Also, Edgar is better as a Dragoon-like, since he gets access to glorious lances. Mog too.
It hurts to see it will never officially happen.

yea i know about stealing the economizer. but wouldnt having two powerful swords do more damage than one lance? with genji gloves and offering you attack 8 times
Jaxson Perez
how else are you supposed to lvl up wothout cheating? just playing a normal playthrough you barely reach level 40

Final Fantasy games are bad. I realized why after playing Zelda. Here is why:
Level and dungeon designs are really bland, linear and unimaginative. You can't interact with your environment other than performing the "examine" action.
So all you do is go from point A to point B in a dungeon while hoping to get as few random battles as possible because battles are so slow, easy and repetitive. Too much waiting involved.
FF games have nice stories, they are good visual novels but they are bad video games. Would it kill the designers to make some interesting dungeons/levels like in Zelda? And combat that doesn't put us to sleep?
I'm playing Oracle of Seasons and really liking it a ton. I was in the middle of FF 9 and almost finished FF4 DS but lost all interest in them. All their levels are just corridors/hallways you run through…the exploration is trivial

I never needed to grind to finish a FF you are doing something wrong
Nathaniel Reed
who's the most useless character.? for me it comes down to umaro or gau, really umaro is almost useless. gau has decent speed but still he cant even use weapons normally.
Robert Nelson
With a Dragoon-like moveset, you use one lance and two much more common accessories (one to replace Attack by Jump, the other to gain a chance to do up to four Jumps in one attack without losing damage). Which means you can give your limited Offering to someone else (Locke can equip the strongest swords too), and the equips available to the two Dragoons available make them pure tanks who can easily reach max defenses. Plus, the strongest lances are pretty powerful on their own.
Camden Garcia
well some of us enjoy the turn-based battles. there is a lot of strategy involved in the combat apsect of final fantasy games

HAHAHAHA! i didnt even realize that until my 3rd play through of the game. hell i didn't even know you gained stats by what espers you had when you leveled up until like the 5th.i just love the game
Colton Bell
Stopped reading there.

yea at level up you get another heart instead of having to deal with all those annoying stat boots. also the item seletion in zelda is like so much more diverse. i mean there are like 5 DIFFERENT SWORDS YOU CAN GET!
Samuel Diaz
Find me another game where you can suplex trains, I'll be waiting.
items in zelda are interactive and improve game immersion, allowing you to interact with the world in new ways, solve puzzles, get to new areas, etc; items in FF are just stat boosts. The battles are so easy it really doesn't matter how you "customize" your character anyway.
only on one or two bosses per game require strategy. The more annoying thing is the loading screen you have to go through every time a random battle happens. There's waiting involved and then the battle themselves are slow and tedious, just spamming auto-attack works 99% of the time. It wouldn't be an issue if the battles happened in the same screen and were fast, like in Chrono Trigger.
Gabriel Cox
well to each his own then. i liked zelda as well but final fantasy games are much more immersive imo
Jayden Watson
I've never found a game like vanilla World of Warcraft for me
I got back into Nostalrius for a bit and then…yeah.

Actually, there kinda was

That demo is pretty old
but i mean, they gve FF3 (the nes one) and FF4 3D remakes
FF6 deserved one, but i maybe its just nostalgia googles
Joseph Campbell
why? 3D graphics are ugly. I'd rather it get more detailed sprites and polished 2D graphics.
Jeremiah Wright
this. ffiv is my favourite, and they 3d'd it up for the DS and it was definitely not as great as you think
Lincoln Reed
Just imagine it re-drawn Vanillaware style, pretty sweet.

The game is insanely difficult, randomized, and beatable with every game as some of the better players have shown. It has a great online community of players who play on the alt.org servers. If you like utilizing tactics, then it is the game for you. Every spell and item has its uses, and you will be placed in difficult situations that may require you to pray to your god for assistance, scribe words of power, summon demons, polymorph, dig down multiple levels, break wands to explode nearby enemies, fight blind, kill shopkeepers, and genocide races of creatures.
Luke Davis
I fucking love the combat and how high the skill ceiling is. Doesn't hurt that it has decent challenge and pretty good reparability.

thats the gameboy one with like 4 different cartridges right? i played it and wasn't impressed. actually wanted my $18 back it sucked so bad

This is a Holla Forums thread, btw.

It's hard to say "best ever". Best of a genre would be tough. Best for a particular element would be tough. But best ever? Might not be a possible question.
Though if I had to throw something into the ring, I'd say the quintessential video game in terms of design would probably be LoZ:LttP.
Julian Walker
nope. see
Easton Gray
who cares if someone reposts a Holla Forums thread here anyway? i'm sure everyone has a favorite game…..
Dylan Kelly
then why play FF?
the JRPG turn based combat is shit for teenagers.
literally, it's difficult for me to even play jrpgs anymore, I get put to sleep.
the only jrpgs I mess with anymore are the wizardry clones and some SMTs.
there's no real strategy in the majority of these games, and with a lot of the SNES jrpgs it's just going down corridors until you hit the right corridor, not even any real exploration or much gameplay going on

have you tried star ocean or tales of phantasia? or even bahamut lagoon? i think all 3 of those games had some cool elements and were fun too play.

Huge replayability thanks to its non-linear open world design and really enjoyable controls.
Gabriel Brooks

the only RPGs i enjoyed was Romancing Saga 3 and Live a Live (only the Ninja and Robot story really)
Andrew Clark
yea one of my favorites as well. they say Sotn is based off of the way metroid played.
Cameron Thomas
not even secret of mana???????
Ian Johnson
I don't really think of that as a conventional jrpg tho

Best game ever implies that I will never play a game I enjoy more than the one's I've already played Best game so far is Resident Evil 4
