Future of video games gentlemen
post yfw you never fell for the mobile authenticator meme
then shitpost this thread to oblivion with a smug anime girl image with >steam
...
...
Please no
yes just like this guy!
remember to sage and shitpost all steam related threads just like this!
sorry?
Considering steam is the cancer of PC gaming, you're correct.
inb4 gog boogeymen, I pirate
gog is only good for one thing and that's easily setting up a pirated game.
i was being ironic OP
What exactly does linking your phone number do? What does that have to do with your PC?
Why don't you verify my dubs instead?
And steam is good for searching games to pirate.
Will there never be any way to buy games without using steam or any DRM again? I don't want to pirate
Nope, sorry.
...
You can link your steam account with your PC so that if you get hacked or something you can verify who you are through your phone assuming your email is compromised.
Reroll. I'm still not interested. Please check.
If you don't use steam you're an SJW, end of story.
oneangrygamer.net
What a waste of trips.
cry more anita
Fuck off shill.
at first glance it is just more security measures to try to keep retards from getting scammed and losing their accounts to scammers, but they just keep getting fucking scammed so it's just more data mining and account "security" at this point.
pretty much yes
take the high road or stay in your trashcan of a low road
I'll check my digits in your ass.
impressive, but very stupid
People still trust valve and use steam? How stupid can you get really. Subscribing to a service for virtual goods is always a bad idea.
...
What's this supposed to stop, anyway?
GOG, but ALWAYS check if the MP for the game you want is locked into their galaxy client.
...
Supposedly it's to discourage hackers by applying bans to all accounts with the same phone number attached and separating people with phone numbers from people without phone numbers.
It won't work, since people already spend hundreds of dollars on paid cheats and SIM cards are easy and cheap to come by.
The real future of video games gentlemen
If you aren't a faggot retarded nigger, and your password isn't something like '1234567' or 'password' no ones gonna get into your account. This shit is redundant
I know that's not the main focus, but I say it's not mentioned enough when talking about cancer killing video games. I wonder how much time and resources are wasted in creating this system that segregates player population and convinces retards that it's an acceptable fix for terrible game play balance.
Disregard the whole valve / steam phone number bullshit for a moment…
What exactly would the advantage be of matchmaking only with people with verified phone numbers? If there were some trading or shit involved I'd be able to at least somewhat get it, but this is CS:GO, what possible difference is there between verified and unverified accounts?
so you can call them up after a match and fuck them, duh.
Nothing. They just want your phone number
That pic basically Steam, except they aint furries, guys pretending to be girls or fat asses
Often those hacking in CS:GO will bulk buy steam keys so when they get banned they can load up a key onto a new account. By making people link their phone number to their account, it makes more expensive for a hacker to start playing again, because they would need to obtain a new phone number. As a result this should hopefully mean there are fewer hackers in the prime account matchmaking games.
Ok that actually makes sense. Still don't like giving my phone numbers to Steam and I don't play CS:GO.
Sim cards hold the account, not the number. You get a new sim it's only changing what phones you can use, not that burner phones are harder to get. But it's consistently expensive to swap numbers with main stream red and blue.
I worked at rogers and bell for a bit and can assume it's the same as America as we cancucks base everything off of their networks….
Damn. That's filthy.
...
This isn't going to deter hackers in the least, especially those who have already spent a lot more on the actual hacks.
Sure they can ban certain carriers' prepaid SIMs but they'll have to allow the major ones at least, otherwise far too many people would be unable to use the option to begin with.
Is it 2000 year again?
...
CHECK EM.
Why? I went to shit years ago.
How do you guys play anything if you don't use steam?
Don't tell me you pirate everything and then wonder why devs aren't pandering to you.
...
nigger the industry stopped pandering to me two decades ago, and that was when i was still giving them my money. everyone involved in mainstream gaming on any level needs to be gassed.
How do you support the small devs who actually pander to you?
I don't, because they don't.
Don't you know user? All devs are kikes pandering to SJWs, which is why they haven't gone bankrupt :^)
GoG or other stores. Sometimes piracy.
Granted I don't play much mainstream shite.
>>>/out/
>>>/suicide/
respectable shitpost, but it's because they've found a new audience. which is something i completely understand.
A single company now mostly controls PC gaming. They get 30 percent of every sale.
Well done master race!
If any devs were pandering to the average Holla Forums user, the first, and by far the easiest, step would be to make their games available outside of steam (and other similar services). How many are willing to do even that?
>>>/out/
Some, TaleWorlds, Bohemia and many Nip and indie devs do it.
If you cant find them its because youre not looking, if you're not looking you're a casual and shouldnt be here in the first place.
Cant wait for the normalfas that only come here for yhe drama to watch E3 and scream that vidya is dead.
It happens every year.
are these supposed to be bad things?
...
I still remember shills saying how digital distribution is the way to go and how we'll be getting 30-20$ AAA games because of it, and yet here we are.
Indeed
steamspy.com
lol
ITS NOT EVEN ON THE TOP SELLER LIST ANYMORE
GET FUCKED RANDY
As long as it results in Queerbox dying i would even go so far as to shill overwatch for free or at least post porn and talk about it.
...
Guess I have to start at some point, though.
...
Yes. Get your games on console.
Bonus, if you wait for the GOTY you get everything on disc. Final patch. All DLC. Preorder boni. All available even if the internet dies. All available even if you bought it used. Oh yeah, you can also sell your used games if you don't want to keep them.
What's with all of the valve shills lately?
Less likely to be matched up with poor BRs and Russians who can't afford phones?
Look at this fucking pleb
I bet he gets all his info at Dualshockers.
Meant to reply
Whatever your local censor doesn't want you to play, on console you can still import. Sure, you could import on PC as well, but even though you paid it won't get activated so remains unplayable, so you have to pirate anyway. That's the problem with online distribution and activation, the gatekeeper to your games bows to your government. Get a console or set sail.
I know quite a number of people who play games and don't own a phone at all.
How the fuck will this work for them?
Kill yourself you waste of space
But I even pointed the alternative out mr mustard, it's piracy. If you have to jump through less than legal hoops anyway there's no reason not to go all the way.
IF
you have a real argument present it now. Or you could keep acting full of defensive edginess to confirm that you have no real argument.
So.. Essentially the same thing as buying a physical copy of a PC game?
Does anyone realize why they want a number?
It's because dumbasses keep getting swindled of their inventory and losing on the items.
Think about how many scams there have involving CS GO and TF2 hats, skins, knives, guns. Now imagine when you have all these whiny ass players storming your forums asking for a fix, asking for help, asking for a diaper. The only real solution is a 2 step process to the issue that not only stops stupidity, scams, and the likes. It also makes sure that each and every transaction is double checked before it is placed on the market place.
It's fucking stupid but it's because of stupid people. It's to make sure that STUPID people don't fall for STUPID scams.
Physical media is superior to digital media in all but short term convenience.
These dumb niggers don't understand that, user. They're just wildly defending whatever their mind thinks you are attacking, as public school has taught them to.
But you're a retard for thinking only consoles can do that. You can always load shit onto physical media to copy to another computer.
So even though you're right, kill yourself for being a shit troll.
The physical copy of the PC game in question won't work without activation, with some rare exceptions. Not every game is The Witcher user.
You have much less options and a harder access to do "illegal" actions
Kek
You're moving the goalposts and presenting a fallacy mr casual consolefag.
Stay dumb and ignorant goy
Actually, this whole system, from Valve's point of view, is designed to stop people who are able to get into an account and sell everything off before it is recovered, because account recovery does not recover your items.
A much better system that the brainiacs at Valve have seem to miss is putting the escrow on accounts that have been verified for a new browser or computer, thereby stopping hackers from selling everything if they have BOTH email and Steam account. They can recover with security question or phoneshit.
Instead, they harm the majority in the easiest method possible, while also collecting data through le safe phone app.
...
...
Importing neither breaks the law nor any terms of service with any activation provider, as none is present.
The unactivated copy doesn't work, whether it comes on a pressed or burned disc. Try harder.
They're not even trying to mask it, steam really wants your number for that datamining.
you're trying so hard
you deserve any replies you get, you bastard
Games are printed on DVDs, not CDs.
I very much prefer and enjoyed video games before steam existed, yes.
Pleb
Why? Vidya was well fucked before Steam even got popular.
It's what you get for still playing CS:Profit Sharing
Obtaining the crack already subjects you to all inherent dangers of piracy. Why pay then? Just go that one single step further and download the iso.
Isn't getting a phone number easy?
Obviously they'll text a code to it which you need to enter, Einstein.
Valve wants your phone number for the La Li Lu Le Lo.
...
...
Being able to play a structured match instead of people being able to just join or leave in the middle of the match is bad?
...
Probably something like "Only idiots who play by the rules will put their real phone number in, the ebin trollz won't do it! Also, we can sell this data."
To support the devs
Consolefag pls
Consolecuck pls
Either get an handheld and a PC or stay pleb.
Not exactly sure what the fuss is. Seems like a purely anti scam measure, Valve's not in the business of selling information anyways. If this were google I'd tell them to fuck off.
The PS4 can handle any game with at least 30fps in 1080p, which the eye can't see above anyway. So you avoid viruses, constant crashes, and having to worry if the game will run on your system, all while playing at optimum fps and graphic fidelity anyway.
...
...
...
By buying the version of the game that enables cancer like online activation DRM? Buy the console version, pirate the PC version - or buy a console and play it right there.
They aren't. Get the wrong crack and enjoy the troyan attached fucking your PC and, if its activities are more than just a little shady, get into the crosshairs of law enforcement.
Only MP worth playan is couch MP or LAN party.
If significantly more games worked out of the box without any online bullshit I gladly would. But for a single CD Project Red game once every 2 years or so? Not worth it.
The limit of human vision is around 200fps and to fill the field of view with pixels small enough that you can't distinguish individual pixels anymore you'd need somewhere around 16k x 16k.
We still have a long way to go, master b8er.
Stay cucked
...
And yes user, consoles aren't better. Sony tax or Valve tax. Pick your poison.
It's so sad that it makes me laugh.
That doesn't have the KIND of DRM that I won't accept. Oh my, it's almost like I'm not falling for identity politics but making an informed decision.
Are you still trying?
I have already pointed towards the parrot-on-shoulder solution multiple times. Learn2read.
Yeah but let's hope Denuvo gets cracked otherwise Gabe the Jew will get his silver.
Get some vidya taste and a brain weeaboo faggot.
Shouldnt take long now and all the games that use it are absolute garbage eith the exception being maybe
JUST 3
which is decent.
...
Get some better taste in glorious leaders or you'll experience first hand why the ability to circumvent censorship is the highest priority in platform choice for many people.
Stay pleb friend
It sure is summer around here.
good games should be everyones priority
Care to share an example with the class?
piracy is the only path to freedom in gaming.
This.
CS:GO is such a "steaming" pile of shit played only by war fanatic children and autistic adults.
This, children, is bait.
A better leader than most though that means quite little nowadays, but someone who employs censorship nonetheless. Russians still can't access Holla Forums without proxies, right? Right.
I really hope burgers will be spared the misery of Shilleries reign. They'd learn about the real importance of many things but the price for that lesson is just too high.
Gamecopyworld
Hope you liked the spoonfeeding child.
Kurwaland is best country right now, too overly religious for my taste, but they're Catholic so Ill feel right at home.
just because they reply doesn't meant that they don't know it's bait
...
You know I agree this is creepy as fuck, but there probably would be an improvement in matchmaking. Playing only with people who have numbers registered would filter out people who have been through multiple accounts (persistent cheaters, etc.) as well as children too young to have their own phone. It wouldn't be foolproof, but a lot like how facebook used to require a university email it would keep a lot of the garbage out.
It's probably not worth it depending on how much you value your privacy but in all likelihood this sort of system would vastly improve the quality of the playerbase. It would preferentially match cheaters and shitters with one another, effectively increasing the quality of the game for everyone willing to give up their number. The more people willing to put in their number, the more effective the filtering becomes.
I'm not going to do it but if a system like this saw sufficient adoption then it would be desirable for people whose lives revolve around the game, and there are quite a few. Not that anyone with decent taste becomes addicted to CS:GO, jesus.
how much do they pay you marketer kun
Falling for bait is one thing.
Chomping down gleefully on obviously falseflagging erected strawmen on the other hand…
Minor nitpick but over time a university email requirement would do nothing to keep trash out, given the current state of post secondary education
Similarly, most kids who can talk and use the internet at a semi-competent level have a smartphone these days. I wish it weren't true but it is
If they pander to me, they don't use DRM.
Yeah, trading and shit in games is cancer. If I wanted that I'd go and play EVE.
When did games stop being games to give way to the notion that the game is a marketspace, that all that matters is not getting good, but maximizing the numbers, etc? Fuck metagaming, it's fucking bullshit.
Their search algorithm could obviously be compromised.
Yes. In their defense, it's a good way to make lurkers understand the arguments, and the reasons why we hate what we hate. Still it's too soon for it to be summer already, isn't it? Down here I'm dying of cold.
Most of the games I play are from gog (yes I bought them), free to play or open source and free. There's only a handful of Steam games that I play anymore.
The better question is steam already asks for your phone number 20 times a day, why bother making an "exclusive" CS:GO Prime account, when that itself is tied to your steam account, and they know whether or not they have your phone number anyways.
It uses the number from steamguard.
Physical drm that costs 400 shekels is your KIND of drm? Well at least you admit consoles are drm
You can't play ps4 games on anything that Sony doesn't approve of, with any controller they haven't licensed or with any content they disagree with. Meanwhile I'm playing the original doom, niche point and clicks, some modern games, dual booting windows/linux, emulating all my old console games, using any controller I want, streaming it for friends, making webms etc etc.
...
Tracfones cost $20
...
i assume the dude getting blown is staring at a mlp spray too.
(checked)
Which is more than the game itself
CDs nuts? XD
PIRACY SENTANCES YOU TO AN ETERNITY TO HELL? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
fuck you and fuck that image
you could've prevented this
This is the future they chose.
It's not 400 anymore, dear Satan. Last offers I've seen were a lot closer to 250. And that's not DRM costs, it's the cost of the complete platform. Before the online activation cancer became inoperable that was less than half of what I spent on the GPU alone, in shorter cycles than a console lifecycle.
Wot?
While I do agree on PC being the master race, what you just said there is fucking retarded. Only complete Holla Forumslacks cream themselves over Putaine. And I say that as someone who lives in Putinland.
It's pretty much that price if you want to get any of the bundle packages that are worth a damn. Not counting the cost of PS+ which you must pay indefinitely unless you want to lose your 'free' games. And why do you think the cost is going down so quickly for a standalone PS4 with nothing? It's outdated hardware. It was outdated on launch ffs.
But you're paying for DRM so it makes no difference. You're buying a DRM box… whether that's what got the cost there or not is none of the consumer's concern. You pay and receive a DRM box for sony certified titles.
The sony platform? Not likely. My PC can run more playstation games than any single sony console can.
And it's not the cost of the complete platform otherwise you'd forever have access to PS+… which you don't. Gotta open that wallet again, boyo.
So you're suddenly talking about finance? My point was that it was costing money to buy a DRM box, not how much it cost. Gaming on a computer is cheaper in the long run if you know what you're doing. Then you have the added benefit of having a strong computer which is good for many things not just gaming. It's comparing apples to oranges. Imagine a steam machine, but with even more proprietary hardware, encrypted and unable to do anything other than what Valve says. That's what consoles are. The physical manifestation of something like the steam client (which is not what steam machines are but I'm not defending them).
I had more games for my computer 1 year after I built it in the entire lifespan of my PS3 simply because of how cheap the games were. (not shitting on PS3. Love my Yakuza, Demon's Souls and Tekken, with no monthly charge to play online).
Say what you want about steam, lord knows I've hated it more than ever before. But it doesn't require a subscription or Valve hardware. You can run it on any dank laptop, mom's off-the-shelf DELL or custom made 1337 LED gaming rig from Zimbabwe to Timbuktu. And steam is still optional for gaming on PC if you don't have completely normalfag taste.
Why is this thread I made so popular? I bet most of the opinions espoused and theories posited ITT are utter trash and not worth reading
Hilton, eh?
IF
you're paying at all, you're paying for DRM, rare exceptions like the witcher games don't invalidate this point. Hate the idea of paying for DRM? Like mentioned before in almost every post, PIRATE.
No, you're talking about finance. I'm talking about keeping the whole picture in mind, which does include lower costs elsewhere. And you're doing it again with
as an imagined additional cost which is quite ridiculous considering you're mentioning this to someone who has explicitely no interest whatsoever in online MP or renting games instead of buying them.
Kill yourself, OP. My job does have its benefits though. I got like 20 of those 12v outlet chargers over the period of 5 months.
You fucking pleb. So far I have yet to get single game in my library to play at under 40fps.
Just shut up, you are only harming yourself.
I don't mind putting my phone number in certain places, because ██████████████████████████████████████. Not that I do, though, because I really would rather dick around driving my car across the country to see something other than the ███████████████████ covered in maggots.
Nope. I don't need X hardware to play X games.I can pick my hardware and I can pick my game retailers, clients and which OS I'll run them on. With modern Sony, you NEED a PS4 and you absolutely must be running the PS4 OS which is just like the steam client.
Hows this for the big picture, then. Gaming on PC is cheaper.
It is not an imagined additional cost. It is an absolutely mandatory cost if you want the privileged of accessing your internet connection with Sony hardware. At least to play games, anyway. Which if you're not doing on a game-dedicated piece of hardware then you're doing it wrong.
And with no choice to ever be interested in it unless you're 50 shekels a year interested. What you're interested in doesn't mean jack shit when you're supposedly looking at the big picture.
Oh god, not this shit again. You don't really own your games unless you purchase the IP, console or PC. You buy a license. Aside from free to play games or subscription games, this is a one time purchase of a license to play the game forever. All T&Cs and ULAs are for that specific platform but don't breach your rights as a consumer. Once you buy the license you have the legal right to play that game forever. You just need to back it up if you don't wish to rely on their servers or feel like your account may be terminated. Having eternal access to the download of the game is not something they legally have to provide. Some adult game sites actually give you a timed download if you don't wish to register an account when buying from them. But just because the download expires does not mean you lose the license for the game.
With consoles the license is more closely tied to the disc via DRM. Because it's (currently) not possible to backup your PS4 games, the disc is essentially the licesne. But not really. If there's a time when you can backup the games, then you can legally play that backup as long as you hold a license. In the EU we're a bit more protected in this regard (until TPP of course). Backups and DRM cracking are not illegal here in and of themselves.
Face it. 8th generation consoles are the worst of both worlds. They hold barely any of the benefits that consoles were known for and they also suffer from the worst parts that PC gaming was known for except even worse now.
...
Buy them from key resellers so Steam doesn't get any money, then download a cracked version and never use Steam.
You can get them directly from the developer's site if they have one and are indie or AA. If they have a DRM free publisher then it's usually fine to support them that way, too.
AAA often have their own DRM or just redirect to steam store page.
There's actually plenty of alternatives these days if you're not wanting AAA. I know I'm going to get fucked with Tekken 7 somehow if it even has a PC release at all. I'm sure it'll be steam only.
They're never going to run out of bullshit to come up with are they
It's kind of incredible seeing this industry devolve into what its become. So much potential lost to greed and sjw bullshit.
As a point of interest, I do have to wonder how that's done.
What are the people of CODEX and 3DM doing? Where do you even start with that shit?
I know very few people have such talents, else we wouldn't be dealing with so many bad games, but still. It can't be some nigh-impossible feat if they put out cracks within a week of the release date.
There won't be videogames in the future when ISIS takes over.
They're doing this because VAC now bans all accounts linked to the same phone number.
It's stupid but come on guys.
It literally says you can only do this with one account per phone number.
Because people like throwing arguments and insults for the sake of it no matter what stance you take, and anything Steam related is an easy subject for it.
And?
It means hackers are much less likely to appear in prime matchmaking regardless if they can only do it on one account or not.
That contradicts your earlier statement.
The former statement you made would have them wanting as many accounts bound to a phone number as possible, whilst your latter statement would have them wanting 1:1
They just want to datamine you
What do they get out of people registering phone numbers when they get them from payment info on a daily basis? On one game?
That's not what I implied at all, I'm implying that hackers wouldn't even want to put a phone number at all and are crapped out of prime matchmaking either way unless they really want to get several phone numbers. Hackers comprise of kids and people with ego problems, so it's either unlikely that they're willing to get several phone numbers just for the game or they waste money on getting more numbers.
Whether they link their phone numbers or not, both Valve and the people who join prime matchmaking win.
No, I guarantee that they just don't see a problem with using something that most people only have one of as a means of ensuring that you're who you say you are.
This is in spite of their website basically replicating the Heartbleed exploit last year I think, I don't really know what day or year it is anymore and dumping random user information when you visited their page.
And their best attempt at damage control was an announcement, saying "Don't look at your profiles, bro."
I'm almost certain Valve used to have competent coders, but they've moved on to greener pastures and grand retirements. I don't foresee a suitable replacement coming anytime soon, but I'd start looking for one now, if you're one of those people who insist on paying for games in this modern era of piracy and user-friendly torrenting sites.
Valve is barely about game development now and more about running this service, something that the company isn't really built for considering its current structure.
Valve as a company is honestly a big hot mess of shit right now.
It may be the passive aggressive way to admit defeat but that's good enough for me. Have a nice day mr mustard.
Impressive, very nice.
Probably will never be any way. Some games might hit GoG but that's it. Never the AAA ones, pirate the SP and buy the MP that you REALLY want to buy. Or get a console.
