It's now possible to remove the N64's blurry anti aliasing filter on real hardware, finally allowing people to play N64 games with crisp image quality. PS1 fags blown the fuck out.
Patching files for those using flashcarts instead of a gameshark.

20 years later, mods fixed it
I'm still surprised they even bothered with anti aliasing on a 240p system. Funny enough, this also provides a FPS & stability boost to games like starfox 64 that are plagued with slowdown when too many explosions are on screen.
Still a neat little trick if you have your n64.
I used to play a lot of mario kart 64 online with project64k. Someone should remake that shit. While it was really fun back then the graphics now give me cancer. Other n64 games like smash bros or mario party are not that bad.
All three of those worthwhile N64 titles must be quivering in anticipation of the literal dozen of people who will care enough about this to play them again.
I think it looks better with the filter on, in the case of Mario Kart at least.
That's because that's the raw image. On a Tube tv the scanlines act as a built in anti aliasing filter, so it looks better in real life. The biggest boost is for 2D games like Harvest Moon 64 & Mischief makers, but they've actually figured out how to implement different LEVELS to the filter, so you can choose between a bunch for a middleground if you want.
Damn shame we never got any disk drive games. This would have been huge for that system.
I thought it made Mario kart look slightly worse in OP, but when you add the full CRT screen presentation to the mix, that helps.
It'd be great if any Nintendo system after the NDS and SNES actually had games.
Who the fuck is going to play this?
Believe it or not, some people still have tube TVs, & occasionally play their Nintendo 64s on them.
No shit.
They are the same people that still use a VCR over a dvd or blu ray player.
But what do they play, if there are no games?
Some things only exist on VHS user. If I want to play Loli Robot fatherhood simulator, I have to play it on My N64 unless I want to mess with an N64 emulator. I think we all know how great N64 emulation is.
LCD is shit for retro gaming and OLED isn't viable yet you underage b&.
Surely you jest. The PSX didn't have this problem to begin with.
Now you can all go play Custom Robo and Custom Robo V2!
WOW GUYSE
There isn't an english translation of this yet right?
It's because of Silicon Graphics' hateboner for jaggies.
Hopefully this helps some people, but saying "it makes N64 games look much better on a tube TV" is like trying to explain how much better a 144hz monitor is to people who have a 60hz one.
It's really something that has to be seen in person, otherwise you can't compare due to the logistics of it.
Fuck off.
I get keeping old consoles around hooked up to the old CRT, I still have mine. But with the N64 in particular, there are so few worthwhile games that can only be played on it at this point. I can find more use for my SNES these days than my N64.
long time OLED user here, stop talking shit. OLED is the future!
turn off your god damn lamp
Those aren't my pictures user.
It isn't viable for widespread commerical use yet because it isn't in a proper price range faggot.
How can you still play 64 games? There's no depth. I'd rather play SNES or NES.
Unless the game is sprite-based… looks kinda shit, the games were made with the anti-aliasing in mind.
OLED is fucking expensive, even just the materials for them let alone the manufacturing process.
Faggot.
It was an unspoken requirement by Nintendo to have 3 point sample filtering on to keep a consistent look.
Very few games do not use it.
I think Top Gear Rally purposely does not use it for the car skins.
Playstation did not have the ability to do filtering or anti aliasing. It also used 8 bit integers for transfering data which causes that weird floaty look for polygons. It's the result of trying to approximate a floating point to an integer.
They could have blown everything out of the water with a focus on blazing fast 32 bit SIMD instructions. Instead, Nintendo insisted on bogging the architecture down with 64 bit floats and forced half-assed anti-aliasing + trilinear filtering that just made shit blurry.
I love how Holla Forums has actual technical knowledge & facts to back up their claims. This is why I come here.
Are you being sarcastic about common knowledge?
The SIMD instructions & sample point filtering used on videogames in the 90s are not common knowledge user. I know you think they are because you put the smallest amount of effort into your discussions, but that alone is way beyond the common poster.
Oh, I almost thought you were being a condescending twat op.
I have never been kicked into my balls but I assume it is every painful since a few girls tried to massage my balls while blowing me and that shit feels totally strange.
Also men are probably not thinking of another kick in the nuts because there is no rewards for it. I mean a kid is a shit reward, but it is still something.
I can confirm that I could go through my life without another kick in the balls

Enjoy your graffiks while we enjoy working emulators not made by kikes
Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't all the 5th to 7th gen consoles actually 32bit?
Depends what you are talking about, processor address width or GPU?
Right, that's because they'll only tell women that.
POORLY CODED N64 EMULATOR
I bet he's one of those faggots who got his balls cut off just to support his fetish.
I wanna make fun of these faggots, but then I remember that my fetish is even worse, in addition to being physically impossible to live out
Oh well, at least I'm not a Burch
Sure, buddy. Have fun with your shitty unstable emulators that doesn't even work properly with most of the fucking games it has without using and or modifying plugins and or plugin settings, faggot.
don't*
nigger, you're retarded.
If the n64 didn't use insane anti aliasing (the infamous "vaseline on the screen"), then shit would have just … been extremely blocky.
The n64 had a tiny amount of texture memory (like 4k). if they're "remastering" games by upgrading the textures, fine, but that has nothing to do with the filter applied
Man you guys are at least a couple weeks late. A guy on the assembler forums discovered the GameShark codes
The N64 textures usually suck because low texture memory and bad blur aa.
Polygon wise it looks better then PS1, due to no polygon breakup and usually higher counts.
we all want to fuck mahzingah z user.
mahzingurr doesn't even have a robo vergana even though it has breasts, smh tbhl
good mental housekeeping
feels gr8 m8
I've been scouring for general idol shit and it's surprisingly hard to just find girls being cute without sucking dicks, like holy shit.
I could go to black twitter but twerking is so ugly and unrefined
thats a shame, that's what I like about some of the idol stuff.
the Japanese still get that sex is art and communication and not just hairy jewish pornographer thrusting of found objects.
They both still look like shit
which game was this? Google was no help.
...
That's pretty neat. I'd like to try it out on some n64 games that used sprites but god damn getting that machine to output RGB is more work than it should be.
I can't believe how salty nintentoddlersstill are. I had a better childhood than you deal with it.
While you were playing Banjo for the gazillion time and a butchered version of some multiplatform by Acclaim, i was enjoyinh Syphon Filter 2,Gran Turismo 2, Silent Hill and Spyro 3, all that with TWO read it 'two' not one stick.
So what if you had a slightly higher rendering resolution? It meant jackshit with those shitty gamepaks.
And yes, i did get to play the few good games the N64 had to offer renting the carts and a console.
I can't see the difference
How many games use mostly sprites on the N64? 3? 4?
You should see it more in motion. In some games, it makes the frame rate higher than what it normally is (or so people have been saying, I've not tried it myself).
Of the top of my head
And that's about it.
And Hexen, Ogre Battle 64, Wonder Project J
Oh shit, forgot about Yoshi and Rakuga Kids. There's also the Shiren game and Bomberman 64 (Japan) as well.
So that's 13.
literally why?
great, now remove the god awful texture filter
you know like youve been able to do with emulators for years
its also running at 1400x1050 resolution and 60 fps with fog disabled but thats irrelevant to my point ;)
...
Which emulator?
mupen64++
Much appreciated, user. Could you post up a 60fps SF64 webm or two? Would love to see that in action.
Sounds interesting. I should buy me an Everdrive soon.
i might need a new cpu as recording has been giving me framedips recently
...
...
That looks great, thank you user. Here, have a webm of the worst game I've played this year.
Come on man, there's more than that.
What are you talking about? That obviously says Dreamcast, not Nintendo 64.
