Probably not, Atlus has never really revisited the first two games. There was a reference to one of the characters from one of the first two games in P3, but that's about it. If anything, it might be years until we get the P3 protagonist back. Maybe they'll just find a way to bring him back in one of the fighting games.

Persona 4 is a shit game due to it's flaws as a JRPG dungeon crawler/waifu simulator.
And I like it because I'm not playing purely for those reasons.

It was a comfy setting in a rural town with a JRPG plot that wasn't simply trying to save the world from an impending doom. I don't know, maybe I'm a huge sucker for detective stories and seeing more of Japan besides Tokyo 2.0 or Feudal Japan when it comes to a Japan setting.

I'm excited, went to go do another play-through of persona 3 and I noticed it has NG+. Best part is it absolutely breaks the game which was amusing for about 5 minutes before I got bored and decided to try p3p.

The female protag in p3p is probably the worst decision Atlus ever made, and that includes making a fucking dancing game out of persona 4. All you have to do is put a tiny bit of pressure on the plot and it falls apart making the female protag not make sense in any way. If you slink shinjiro up to 10 and then get his pocket watch for him he wont die when he gets shot by revolver jesus, sure he gets taken out of your party for the rest of the game but just think of how fucked the plot becomes.

If Shinjiro doesn't die then Obviously Ken's story gets fucked since it was his death that made him realize that his life has value. Akihiko never learns to be more responsible and put his reckless abandon behind him. Because Akihiko didn't mature Mitsuru never learns to be a more caring person. Because Mitsuru never becomes empathetic Yukari doesn't move past the death of her father and forgive the kirijo group. Because Yukari remains embittered Fuuka never learns the value of friendship. Because Fuuka never becomes closer to the party Aigis never learns what it means to be human.

Just about the only character that doesn't get completely fucked is Junpei but even then you can argue that it was Shinji's death that caused SEES to go on the warpath against strega which caused them to get more strained eventually leading them to kill Chihiro to close up any loose ends as they bring about the fall.

The setting is a fairly rare one, rural modern japan never really shows up in games. It also does pretty well at balancing the fun elements of the story with the murder mystery plot.

It also fixed the problem that 3 had by letting you directly control your party members, as well as streamlining the persona fusing system.

Not 100% subjective, but those seem like some good things.

Fine, the good points about this game are the rural modern Japan setting, the sound design, being able to control my AI party, solving the mystery as well as the depth to your outside combat stats like academics and courage.
Even thought it was added in P3P, there's part-time jobs where a couple are social links.
Social links also were a big step-up with some more interesting ones, as well as mostly early access to your companion social links.

Instead of having to grind your academics which therefore allow you to actually give a fuck about your companions unlike P3. It was also a neat concept that your companions could gain special abilities from you raising their social links. Which changed up the combat a little.
At this point, I think maybe you shouldn't bother playing Persona 5 if you really didn't see much good points within Persona 4.

You also didn't need to wait until close to the end of the game to build your social link with Naoto. Unlike Mitsuru herself. I also liked that you weren't swimming in cash for most of the game. And that you could collect materials to sell to create better gear. And even though I preferred the healing system in P3 more, I liked that you couldn't grind as much thanks to the Shrine Fox social link. Which made the game challenging as well as giving you an incentive to do some social links, beyond just getting better personas.

The story of P2 is so convoluted that I lost track of what's happening. Basically the universe of P1 and P2 dont exist because the MC destroy it, that's why we dont see any cameo characters from the first 2 games and no mentioning of Hitler and his flying robot attacking Japan. It also explain why the Persona universe is different from SMT universe

The only difference between Other Side (P2IS) and This Side (P2EP) is that the children never meet, thus Nyarlato doesn't fuck with Jun. P1 still happens, SMTif still happens, Devil Summoner still happens. Nyarlato had contingency plans in IS that make it to fruition in EP (the park reconstruction and basically everything to do with the Sudous). Even a tragedy at the shrine still happened, only with substitutes (Takuya and Shiori in place of Tatsuya and Maya). Other Side still exists although with 99.9% of the world wiped out.

The reason P1 and P2 don't get references in modern purse owners anymore is because they're straight up different teams. Atlus assumes no one will want to play a convoluted mess, so they cut off decent lore in favor of more waifu events.

There still a references of P2 in P3 but its entirely fanservice. Maya and Tatsuya is reference in MMO the P3 MC played, there was cantonese language lesson in P3 which a reference to Lisa that obsess with chinese culture. Nanjo group was mention as a business partner to Kirijo group.

Only references we honestly get from P1 and P2 are Philemon's blue butterfly forms. That's all. Not even a game theory either.

Only other reference we get is mainly Maya and Tatsuya within the P3 MMO that you play.
