I don't get the "repetitive" opinion, actually. It's as repetitive as your average match in TF2, CS, UT2k4 or Quake. I'd say it's possibly less repetitive since matches aren't as long and dragged out and since it's 6v6 with several different viable characters (instead of 6v6 with 2 soldiers, 1 medic, 1 demo, 1 scout and a picker for both teams every single fucking match) it tends to have much more variety than you'd expect.

In closed beta bastion had a barrier in front of him like a mini reinhardt shield but he couldnt rotate 360 just 180 when deployed.

Dunno if you have tried it recently, but there's a Custom Game option that allows you to pick what map you want to try, invite friends and fill the rest of the slots with AI. Even change some of the rules in the game, though I haven't explored that very much.
It would be nice to pick a specific gamemode I guess, but overall it doesn't seem to be much of a problem. In pretty much all maps, the fighting happens around the objective, whether it's a payload or just an area in the ground, so it's not like you have to completely change how you play according to the maps.
Then again, I can see "Temple of Anubis 24/7" reaching 2fort levels, since it's such a great map.
Zarya is actually fairly easy to handle unless you or your teammates have brain damage. She does shit damage unless she charges her gun. When you see her, wait or bait her into using her barrier. Wait 2 seconds and then kill her, since the cooldown is huge on it. It's a lot like the Riposte skill of Genji.
Bastion, that's harder. You gotta either flank him or get a sniper to handle the fucker. Or use Junkrat grenades.

-Play as damage, no one pushes
-Play as healer, no one pushes or can kill anyone

A lot of people are just trying out new heroes and figuring the map out. Not knowing the maps is also pretty bad. Can't do nothing about it but wait and learn.
But yeah, it's ridiculous sometimes. You'll see people picking Offense roles thinking about all the kills they are gonna get, but they die incredibly fast to the minimum amount of coordination and leave all the snipers and turrets standing.
Or tanks that go for kills instead of the objective.
You gotta learn about the difference between Health, Armor and Shields. That's something new to Overwatch.
Health is the white section in your HP bar, that's regular HP.
Armor are the yellow pips, those heavily reduce damage when you get hit.
Shield are the blue pips, they regenerate after not taking damage for a while.
Bastion for instance has 600HP, the first 300 being Armor. That means when you attack him, half of his health is gonna be a bitch to take but after that he dies fast. It's even harder for DVA since she has 500 Health with 400 being Armor.
You also have characters like that indian robot with very little Health but a good Shield pool. If you're smart, you'll do hit-and-run tactics with him just to drop a few balls here and there and retreat to heal up.
I actually like this new stuff since it means, as Mercy, that healing a character with natural Armor is better than other characters and keeps them safe for longer, or how Shields completely change the way you play a hero.
I think there's actually more to this and Shields have some other quirk but I haven't found it out yet.

To me, as someone who hasn't played TF2 in 5 fucking years, slowly standing in the sidelines watching it go to shit, Overwatch was a fresh breath of air.
The game is fast, everything is balanced and able to be countered, the subclasses are something TF2 could have used, and the character designs are nice and clean. Only complaint is they're more waifubait than actual characters like in TF2.

Bow and Arrows can be a really fucking fun weapon type in most games.

Movement speed is really slow, and only a tiny handful of characters have a way to go much faster than a light jog.
Hipfiring, aim-correcting weapons are everywhere and yet all the characters move so incredibly slow and many arenas are comprised mostly of wide open areas with very little cover.

i think using unconventional weaponry in general is fun vidya times. my favorite weapon in FEAR was the penetrator for how inconvenient it was, but nailing people to things is just satisfying.

I've played GiTS, Paladins, and Overwatch so far.
GiTS felt too frantic and chaotic for me to really enjoy, it stressed me out because there wasn't any satisfaction to half the kills. There are essentially no heal pickups and as a result its just "kill, die, kill, die" you might have a few lucky runs where you "kill kill kill die" etc. It really hinges on your loadout, dont let any fucking asshole tell you otherwise. Everyone is like "git gud" well, git gud translates to "upgrade your carbine so you grouping pattern is high and you can unload on a piece of shit before your abilities are up, then spam the healing/stealth one to secure a kill". I wanted to love it but I didn't enjoy it.
Paladins was pretty horrible for balance imo. I played a bunch because I loved smite and the balance has been horrible since day one. The game feels slap-dashed together in a really hobbled way. Even the characters seem like cheap chinese knock-offs (mecha character, giant knight tank with shield, sneak sexy catsuit woman, etc.).
Inb4 blizz shill, overwatch has been the only one I've actually enjoyed. The player base will probably be stone cold retarded like they are in HoTs but atleast with overwatch the game feels like it has purpose-the characters seem like they got lots of TLC and thought. The levels are somewhat interactive (shooting items in staging areas, background stuff, etc.). The game just feels like it was a product of dedication and love. Sure its just a "tf2 clone" but thats a bullshit retarded argument because just about every game is a copy of something to some degree in some way. I like the level design, the character design, and the gameplay. There are a few characters that feel op (roadhog) but its really minimal compared to the bullshit for builds in gits/paladins.
If I were going to buy one (I own all three/beta'd all three), I would get overwatch.

TF2's balance is fine.
Scout/Soldier/Demo (and of course a medic) are clearly the classes that you want to be using most of the time because they have the best mobility and damage output. Some people think that makes the game imbalanced because the other classes aren't as powerful. It's not that they're "worse," it's that they're only useful in certain situations.
The beauty of TF2 is that you aren't locked into a class, you can change at any time. So you can offclass to something else when you need to. If you're defending the last point, you could go Engineer to build a sentry, or Pyro to stop an uber, or Heavy to tank a spot. Or if you're attacking the last point, a Spy or a Sniper could be exactly what you need to take out the medic and win the round for you.

I'd like to say that it isn't inherently cancer in games although most of the time it unfortunately is. My only example to prove this is Dawngate which had a form of a thumbs-up system at the end of every match that you could literally give to everybody in the game with no limitations outside of yourself. With each approval you got from another player you scored much better at the end-game reward which could net you as much as a Hero plus a shitload of runes / in-game currency.

I liked tf2. It was rather fun going to user operated servers, fucking around with the admin/mods, and have a good chat with the people on the server. So far I have encountered nothing but tryhards who talk nothing but battle call outs or how "op" bastion+reinhardt is, or how broken "x character" is. Don't forget, "we don't have 'x' guys, we need an 'x'." but he doesn't want to play "x"
I know that the beta is limited but the lack of gamemodes and maps bothers me. TF2 had the advantage of user created content. Granted that most of it was shit, we still found a couple of gems amongst it, and some of it eventually became official. Thanks to valve having a century old engine and "allowing" people to use the SDK with ease we were able to experience this. However, overwatch doesn't look like it might even come close to doing this given how protective blizzard is over their software.
A big concern was how brain dead the ultimates are.The fact that certain ultimate abilities are capable of annihilating the entire team while the person who casted said ulti had a lackluster performance the entire game is pants on head retarded. This might cater to casuals, but for me its a huge turn off.
The play of the game feature rustles me sometimes. It doesn't really matter what you do, if there is a bastion with half a brain cell in the game, he WILL get the play of the game award. I'm on a 15 kill streak completely demolishing the enemy team. I become a high priority target and manage to herd the entire team to a choke point whilst on low health. Lo-and-behold, a friendly bastion was set up in that corner and mowed them down. Guess who got play of the game? Not the phara with 1 death, 30 player kill score, and a 30k damage score. It was the goddamned bastion for mowing down the team that I whittled down to begin with.
The only support that has a rather unique design is zenyatta, the rest are rather boring to both play and look at.

Here's the 6v6 pre-aproved team composition:
2 soldiers, 1 Medic, 1 Demo, 1 Scout and one picker\wildcard (sniper or spy\anything that needs doing)
You aren't gonna replace either of that shit because that is the empirically confirmed optimal team.
Picking an Engineer is dumb. That's counting on the other team soldier being retarded or the medic not using an uber.
Picking an Heavy is dumb. That's slowing your team down for a class that's just gonna eat rockets and stickies and leave the medic alone.
The Soldier is the class with the best mobility, even better than the Scout (when he was intended as the "mobility class"), second highest HP pool (and the first one is tied to a class that always loses against a competent soldier so it's a moot point) and he is given excelent burst damage.
There's a reason some people call it Soldier Fortress 2. It's because when you are losing in pubs, just pick soldier for a few minutes and suddendly you are winning. You can use corners to screw engies and heavies, open areas to escape from any and all threats and closed areas to kill scouts, demos, soldiers, spies, anything really.
And balancing the fucker would actually be very simple: every bazooka only has 1 rocket before needing to be reloaded. There, off goes the excessive burst damage, rocketjumping doesn't allow you to rain dead from above and if you can dodge or survive the first rocket, you actually stand a chance to kill him.
The game isn't balanced, I'm tired of being forced into a single class to stand a chance at winning the game and I much prefer Pharah over Soldier.

The only reason Heavy isn't part of the 6s meta is because his weapon selection is fucking gimped to only be shotgun upgrades and his boxing gloves. Heavy would be completely viable in 6s if the GRU were allowed, especially due to his high DPS and ability to play both offense and defense easily. Hell, he can even be a support class if you throw in the Sandvich too

People are still figuring the game out. They don't know many of the counters available or much of the map, otherwise every Widowmaker or Pharah would just focus on Bastion and screw him. Even if there's Reinhart nearby, that means you gotta gank them. Also, shooting Reinhart shield is free charge for your ulti, remenber that as Tracer to leave a bomb behind them.

Compared to TF2, there's only CTF missing, really. You have your Payload, Assault and Arena. Well, I guess Double Payload too.
Pretty much a lot of the ultis still take some skill and timing to be used and can often be countered easily. You have Junkrat's Tire that you actually can shoot down and negate entirely, you have Pharah being stationary in the sky for Widow\McCree\Soldier to kill really fast. Even the Edgelord can be killed\stunned during his ulti.
And this isn't even mentioning things like Zarya, Winston or Reinhart shields that are regular abilities that completely nullify most Ultis.
For many of them you even have a lot of audiocues. Soldier's "autoaim" has him say "I got you in my sights" that you can hear from anywhere in the map. Same for Widow "wallhack" and the Archer shouting his dragons. Listening to that (and footsteps too, very important) helps a lot.
You gotta remenber too that ultis charge very little with time and mostly by how good you are in a fight. So a braindead idiot is gonna use his about 2 or 3 times during a match, while you might pull yours 6 or more.
This means you actually have an advantage over him according to your skill, so it's not as bad as you may think.
Play of the Game seems to tie in with multi-kills only. But really, it's hard to come up with a better idea. The point is to capture a small 10 seconds video of someone doing something interesting, and a 15 players kill streak can't be condensed in 10 seconds. Most games nothing really notable happens (I've had one where it was just a Tolbjorn hammering his sentry while it killed 2 guys) but there's hardly a better system.

Including an heavy in your team means reducing your speed heavily, which loses the match for you.
In Arena, by the time you reach the middle point, a Medic+Soldier pocket are already there capping and you're gonna get peeled on the way by the roaming soldier\scout anyway.
In any other gamemode, if you suddendly need to go back to stop someone taking your Intel or backcapping, you'll take so long to get there, it's like an headstart to the team.
His high DPS also means nothing. A decent soldier (not even good, just decent) will stand besides a corner and peek to shoot at you. You can fire as much as you want, you'll only hit a few bullets while eating his entire rocket load and killing your medic in the process. If he ain't near a corner or you are too close, he'll rocketjump away and try again, while you can't escape from him if things go south.
And this isn't even mentioning demo with grenades\stickys or how it even makes it easier for the picker to get you.
That requires you to not shoot for a considerable while to throw a Medium Kit. Now compare that to the Mad Milk that the Scout can bring (if they don't ban it, that is) or just the plain fact that you're always gonna have a medic anyway, no sense in wasting a weapon slot for the sandvich.
I like Heavy, I play it a lot, almost as much as Engy. But the more I play him, the more I see his shortcomings and how easy he is countered by absolutely anyone else. I wish the game wasn't like this, but it is.
And what's worse is that the entire playerbase won't care as long as sticky's aren't nerfed (remenber that shitshow? A balanced demoman? not on my game!) or the soldier keeps getting buffs and weapons.

i think the 5v5 thing is a relic of the 12 player limit in assfaggots. 5 players per team and 1 "npc" player for the creeps and structures per team. though i think a few aos maps found a way around that and had 6v6s enabled somehow.

You do understand the concept of strafing, right? Even if a rocket hits a Heavy at full force, it will still be a few shots (dead on, at least) to take him down, even with a Medic. Heavy can easily provide denial for an area just as Demo can with his stickies, perhaps even more so due to how he doesn't need to reload and no reliance on projectiles
You act like Sandvich isn't always run in 9v9, and Mad Milk (or any other items that heal, for that matter) are nowhere near as versatile as the Sandvich is. Mad Milk requires it to be thrown first, which could easily be dodged, and the Concheror relies on the Soldier to build a charge then use it, assuming he isn't killed during that time. Even then, neither heal as much as the Sandvich

Someone hasn't played vanilla TF2, Pyro was even more useless than he is now. Flamethrower's been massively buffed over the years, most prominently in its actual DPS output and the introduction of the airblast.
Pyro's general role is to sow discord and inconvenience crowds rather than flatly ambush, if you don't have a medic, medkit, pool of water or a projectile liquid item (ie jarate) then you're on fire and that's the end of it. Combine that with that you're an idiot if you use the flamethrower instead of your melee or your shotgun flare gun is for faggots and only useful for harassing snipers from long distances, scorch shot is okay though in 1-on-1.
Some sort of magical number that competitive players figured was the optimal choice for balance. Enough people to make the game interesting but not enough to make it a chaotic mess.
I'd wager that it's because you have 4 roles in the game (Offense, Defense, Support and Tank) so you can take one of each and then specialize 2 or 1 one of them further. More Defense to hold a point, more Offense to attack, more Support to counter their Offense, that kinda stuff. I'd actually think the default was 12v12.

Also, Arena is kinda neat actually. It's a best-of-tree gamemode with different places for all attemps and every point you have to capture has multiple routes to flank.
I might also mixed the names, since it's not the "you die one, you watch now". It's that gamemode with a single control point to dominate for some time, like Harvest in TF2.

The S in DPS means Seconds and peeking from cover to dump a rocket takes no time at all. You reduce the time you are exposed, you reduce the DPS, while the same doesn't apply to rockets that are burst.
The slowest class in the game is gonna strafe to dodge rockets and scatter shots. Especially after starting to spin his gun for extra lower speed.
We aren't talking about going on open space here, we are talking about closed spaces where you cna shoot your rockets at a wall or the floor to still cause some damage and from afar so you can leave. It's not even like the heavy can chase a soldier anyway, so best case scenario you chase him away until he eats a medikit, comes back and finishes the job.
Throw it at the ground instead? Seriously? Also, why use the Sandvich? If your medic is around, any damage you have is extra charge for his Uber, and if he ain't around, go back and get a medikit on the way.

What about leading your targets instead? It's not that hard to figure where they are gonna move, it's the whole basis for proper rocket shooting anyway. And considering the Scout often comes from behind, it's not like they are gonna actively dodge your shit anyway.

Most of your points seem to assume that the other team is composed of bumbling retards that will run in front of an heavy instead of taking cover while also being incapable of hitting a splash weapon like the Mad Milk. None of those are valid points at all if there's a semblance of skill in the other team at all, something that's kinda the expected in competitive.
And you are saying all this just to prove that "Heavy is totally viable in competitive, it's not just Soldier all day erryday". Give it up. Heavy isn't bad, it's worse. He has a nice role that he can do but someone else can do it better. It just so happens that that same class can also do the roles of many other classes. From area-denial, mobility, burst damage and resilience, the Soldier is the objectively superior choice and the whole game is balanced around him, which is why he is 1/3 of every 6v6 team and that's why TF2 is shit.
You know, a funny way to look at this is that Soldier is the Stock Class and everyone else is just a Sidegrade to TF2. And you know what they say about Sidegrades: "It's good on specific circunstances and to play for fun, but you're more often better served with the Stock weapons."

Why? Sticky's will do the job but they are slower compared to grenades. But then you'd have to hit directly or hope they land\ricochet nearby.
A soldier can not only do the same job faster but since he also has more HP than the demo, outlast any stray bullet from the Heavy.
If you assume both are at about the same skill level, that's never a counter. If the scout is good enough to dodge him, the heavy is good enough to track him.

Played about 15 hours or so now, former fps compfag here.
Widowmaker is broken, and is the best example of Blizzard not knowing shit about designing an FPS. Basically the TF2 sniper with none of the downsides and a ton of upsides. Some of the maps being gigantic and having super long sightlines also contributes. She gets wallhacks as an ultimate, and her voiceline to announce it is the quietest in the game so you don't hear it half the time. I don't understand why a ton of new FPS games use wallhacks as a game mechanic, it's not engaging at all. I can see her being less good in a fully coordinated competitive environment, but for general play she's broken as shit. Good luck if your widow is worse than theirs.
They probably won't nerf it though, because if you suck at aiming it's obviously not very good.

The only time I managed to kill Widowmaker is if I flanked her with a McCree or using Tracer but sometimes, Widow can sit on really high places that's out of range of Tracer and McCree so you're stuck with advancing with a Reinhardt.
There's also Pharah but a good Widow can still fuck her up.
That's pretty much the same major complaint my buddy who got into the first wave of the beta had, a lot of matches just come down to who has a better sniper. I think they've already nerfed Widow once so far so I wouldn't be surprised if the nerfs keep coming now that the volume of complaints is going to increase.

Her voice saying it in french is actually worse than the volume for hearing. But it's something you learn to pay attention too, since even footsteps help you a lot in tracking people.
Her wallhacks don't do much except help kill the other sniper better and negate any flanking attemps. Any other situation doesn't benefit from it at all.
Her shots are also screwed against Armor, even headshots. A single pack from Tolbjorn means she can't one-shot you, for instance. She's still good at handling Bastion with his 300 Armor but only because she can either force him to move away or kill him if his stubborn.
Yeah, a character like tracer should be able to ruin her but due to the grapple hook she can often times be in places a tracer literally can't get close to. Pharah just gets shit on 90% of the time if the widow is an average player. Best counter is herself, just like in tf2 the best counter to sniper was another sniper.
It's almost as if blizzard didn't realize how important overheal was in tf2 to mitigating some of sniper's effectiveness or something.
That's basically what's happening now. The worst part is you can't really switch to widow yourself, since if you're playing an important team role (tank/healer), you're going to gimp your team even more by being the second sniper.
To me, the biggest indicator of whether or not blizzard knows what they're doing at all will be if they nerf widow or not prior to release. I'm abandoning all hope if they don't, because it really is obviously a problem.
Wallhacks help in every situation, you really can't overestimate that level of situational awareness. It's a massive, massive advantage to be able to pre-aim a corner and instagib someone, as any class. Her shots being bad against armor doesn't really matter either, since the followup shot after the first fully charges so quickly. You can stay scoped and fire in really rapid succession, even just bodyshotting will net you decent results.
So they out-casualized TF2, impressive.
It wasn't enough to have more auto aim than Halo and shooting at a wall half a screen away from the target still kills him, gotta add those PRESS BUTTON TO WIN too for the ASSFAGGOTs players, great stuff.

I've never even played Overwatch and yeah the walking speed looks a little too slow for me, since I'm used to Doom and stuff, but I haven't written it off completely. I'm just waiting to see if Blizzard dips their greedy hands in it and adds a huge cash shop or not before jumping in and spending 40 dollars on something that might become shit later. I've spent over 600 hours in TF2 so far and it sucks that they've nerfed my main, Pyro, to complete shit recently. He's already the worst class in the game and they just went and shat on him even more.

You said in a 2v1 scenario. If it's Heavy+Medic vs Soldier+Medic the Heavy can easily trump a Soldier, regardless of rockets. Heavy's DPS destroys a Soldier at close range and can out-damage even a Quick-Fix, that's no contest
Assuming they're both at medium-range with full health, with the Soldier behind a corner taking pot shots at the Heavy, not only can the Heavy run up from around the corner, rev up mid-jump, and take down the Soldier, but he can also wait until the Soldier fires 2-3 rockets and then choose to attack him. You're assuming the Soldier lands every single rocket at point blank despite not knowing the position of the Heavy each time he peeks, which just simply can't happen, unless the Heavy is standing completely still, but that's not going to happen in a competitive match

Consider that her grappling hook actually has a big cooldown compared to Tracer's blink. And while you might not get a kill, putting her on the run means a breather for your team.
Also consider that, if Symtra puts a Shield on you, or even Zarya, a Tracer can get very close to the Widow while still having a lot of life, considering the damage reduction of Armor. The extra bit keeps you alive to escape the large hallways she is guarding. Or you know, use flanking routes. It's not like the scope has 180 vision.
I'm saying most of this because Widow doesn't even seem to be that popular. Most games I've played, I've had to take either her or Hanzo since a lot of people prefer to play other roles, I guess. And it doesn't make much of a difference, I've had games I've won with 0 snipers versus a team with a decent one and I've had the oposite too.
Widow is as OP as Bastion is, as in you gotta learn to play against her and minimize the importance she has in the game.
Whenever I see a Widow in the other team, I pick Genji, Tracer or Reaper and flank her for an easy kill, since she can't watch her back that well. I always know there's gonna be her mine and I look out for it as well, which turns out to be a disadvantage for her. Most widow's won't notice when the mine goes off but believe their backs guarded because of that.
D.Va is still considered underpowered, since without that Ulti she is a bit of a liability if you don't know proper positioning and flanking.
Also, the Soldier's auto-aim isn't as good as you might think. Headshots cause double damage for almost everyone but the soldier can't headshot at all during his ulti. If you have better aim, you can end him fast.
Beta's coming up in a day or two, give it a try first.

One rocket at close range kills a scout. Meanwhile, a scattershot at close range doesn't kill a soldier. Have fun chasing all the soldiers inside the small closed buildings where all the objectives are and trying to dodge rockets by jumping against walls. Have fun tryint to chase soldiers on open field when they can rocketjump and move faster than you.
Sticky's are the poorman's rocketjump, they have less health and if you can hit grenades directly, you could do the same with rocket's. They are worse in every single role

If both find cover, nobody shoots. This isn't a win for either side. But the soldier can peek and shoot his rockets for burst damage, while Heavy can't do the same. In fact, the soldier can shoot his rockets at the corner and hit the heavy for some damage even if he isn't peeking.
I'm not new at heavy, that's what I am. Do you really think in all those 600+ hours I've never had a Scout jumping over my head to screw my aim? It works the first few times when he surprises me, doesn't work as well when I know what he is gonna do. Or even better, when I get the Natasha.

McCreeds ulti reduces his speed, puts a big glowing light around him (supposelly, it's a sunset) and the "It's high noon" can be heard by everyone on the oposing team.
The ability also has a cast time that has to go trough in full for a chance at instakill, otherwise it deals much reduced damage.
In case you guys missed, out of all those 3 characters, 1 made it with a sliver of health.
No aim assist in the game then. Console version is gonna have it, most likely, but then again it's the console version, who cares.
Because she can flank very well and land it right on the back of people, making it a very good ability for her.
Also, you might have tried it on characters with armor (the yellow health bar). As long as they have armor, any damage above 10 poitnts, I think, is reduced to half, so the bomb isn't very good for that.
What you can do is toss it in the back of one of those characters to take their armor and then finish them off as they are very weak without it.
Considering there's only her and Hanzo as snipers and the game even gives you a "helpfull team hint" about "no snipers", it's natural that you see snipers in almost every match. But I'll see Hanzo as often as her and for some sections of the map, especially when attacking at first, she isn't picked.

Dunno. I think there was an operational "server emulator" for Diablo 3 that allowed you to play offline. Also a few programs that allowed real LAN play for Starcraft 2.

Soldier's the overall average in terms of capability, unfortunately reinforced both by wide-open map design allowing rocketjumping errywhere (hilariously 2fort is actually one of the maps where he can't do this for the most part since most fighting is indoors) and his favoritism for new weapons (having a backpack that gives Medic-style regen is some bullshit), so a lot of people gravitate towards him due to high mobility if you practice a lot and good combat capability besides. There really isn't a flat "best" though and the claim that Soldier can cover any and all roles or that rocketjumping is faster/more reliable than a teleporter that I saw earlier is fucking laughable, TF2's very much about having the right class at the right time, reinforced by being able to switch classes whenever the hell you feel like.

in the class showcase gameplay videos i watched the sniper classes just rack up kill after kill. i just assumed the enemy team was bad. as far as snipers go they really get to play on their own terms. but i think a reinhardt, winston or other deployable shield is a core part of the game though, which could limit their effectiveness

I said popular, not good. After they got fat and lazy with WoW they lost the beloved childhood idols status, but a lot of people still hold them in high esteem. I think they did something great by making Overwatch somewhat smaller in scope and expectations than their previous games. It's not amazing but it's better than the abortions they've been making for the past 10 years. I'm also happy it's an arena shooter since TF2 got stale.
As for it being notable, it's an open beta for a big release. That's pretty notable compared to the nothing that's happening this week.

Stracraft has "LAN support" as in, you gotta go online first with your account and then you can play in LAN, so it's not like they can't do something similar to allow for a server browser while detering piracy.
It's more that it's kinda pointless since teams are fairly small and you don't have any way of knowing the skill level of the players without joining in and testing the game.
I mean, even in TF2, at best you get a 22/24 to describe the server and you make your pick based on the map and latency anyway.

Movement speed for the majority of characters is measured to 5.5 metres per second. This is outside of abilties to buff speed. This is the baseline.
Call of Duty is 8.
Most FPS games are 9, including most of the classes in TF2.
Quake is 12, without bunnyhop.
Doom is 33.
Additonally, the objectives in Overwatch are so far from spawn, it's impossible to not notice, bad level design is another fault this turd has.
In many instances, it can take 30 seconds of crawl to reach the objective. Now imagine if you get zerged, or someone hits you with a headshot, or an ultimate.
8 second respawn, 30 second crawl.
Now imagine for a moment your team is terrible. You can't do anything against the other team because Overwatch allows little to no agency.

That's correct. I can easily dismatle your entire "argument".
Movement speed is relative. You could make a character move at 100 meters per second and he would still feel slow if everyone was 100 meters tall and the levels where 5000 meters large. Mentioning absolute values proves you have no idea how speed and size actually works in videogame design.
The beta is open for everyone in the following days. You can hop in and see how wrong you are on your own or keep on being wrong.
Respawning is 6 seconds tops, traveling takes me about 10 seconds as well. And this as Tolbjorn without any speed boost from Lucio. This is roughly 15 seconds between every death to come back into the game. Not to mention there's always the good advice of "Don't be all Rambo and go alone, retreat, heal, wait for teammates and try again".
Secondly, you sound like all the kids in TF2 that believe Instant Respawn is the coolest shit ever, since you clearly have no idea what respawn and travel time does for the gamebalance.
If everyone respawned too fast and too close to the objective, killing the oposing team would have little to no effect in allowing you some time to capture it. You'd constanly be peeled by an eternall respawning army. Therefore you need either long respawn timers or long travel timers. Using both is overkill, so you gotta pick one, and while traveling for a bit longer isn't very fun, it surely beats observing the game from a deathcam.
This whole diatribe of yours about "fast paced" seems to be about you trying to compare it with Quake or Xonotic or some other similar arena shooter. But the point of the game isn't to be incredibly fast at all times nor should it be. There are fast characters that can and should go fast and there are slow characters that do other things very well and therefore should be slow.
For the record, you aren't even correct. Genji and Tracer's speed is 6 meters, not 5 and Lucio is about 8, before his own boost.
I just remembered something as well. Fast paced doesn't necessarily mean fast move speed. That can be one element that does help but it's not the only nor can it be. If that were the case, just about any Sonic game would be more fast paced than Quake. Need for Speed would be even more fast paced than Doom as well.
Fast paced involves a quick sucession of elements that you must react to, which does happen in Overwatch quite often. From the many different routes in the levels (with way more verticality than TF2 for more classes than just soldier, demo and specific loadouts for the scout) to the many different enemies, all with different abilities that have to synergize with each one, the game does demand a lot from you in a very short amount of time, otherwise all of your efforts will be neutralized by the tank's shields and you'll die to any of the offense class.
If you're still gonna bitch about "not being fast paced enough for me", I'll assume you just can't handle a Mei Ling on the other team.
If you played Team Fortress Classic or anything like that then this is the exact same game.
People are going crazy over it because they're really just new to games.
You all have to consider every single game that comes along and people go nuts over and you're wondering what all the hype is about is more to do with your experience in pure timeline and logged hours in games.

Played 2 rounds like that and uninstalled it. It's unsatisfying and needlessly aggravating for how little actually happens. Has some UI issues where damage to you isn't clearly indicated as well.
Zenyatta is really interesting as a support but has zero fucking movement options. You can't tank hits, you're slow and you can't dish out decent damage. It's fucking atrocious that he can't even reach all the vantage points most players can because his jump is so small.
Overwatch is a game where you can have fun if you enjoy ASSFAGGOTs, it's the kind of game that makes you think you're doing well and fucks the flow of gameplay by giving away free ultimates. There's very little skill involved in most plays and it's clear the devs didn't think much about balancing movement capabilities for all characters. At the very least they should all have the ability to dodge. But most just crawl around at a snails pace. It's not good, it's not really fun or rewarding. It just feeds you good feelings by giving you ultimates that give easy kills.

There's very little content and it's obvious the ultimates are designed to give scrubs guaranteed kills to make them feel better about themselves. (I mean, a fucking aimbot? Really?)

I think the average movement speed in TF2 is 5.7 m/s, so it's not really that much faster than most overwatch characters.

So far it seems like whether any of my friends will get it or not will be a major component in the purchase decision. Random people seem to lack coordination in a major way, and with the character classes one would think that it would be a great asset for the team to have some.

Winston is probably pretty good for it since you can jump right on top of him, barring that if you're a better sniper you could do Widowmaker. Tracer and Reaper would be okay but you risk getting oneshot by a scatter arrow to the feet or anywhere indoors.

Does it have good pacing? A game can be slow but have good enough pacing for it to not matter. I'm gonns be broke for the rest of the year so I won't be picking it up outside of it being on sale for $30 if it's good enough.

Depends what you consider as "good" for pacing. Most levels tend to be constant push/pull as far as I've noticed.
