Well that helps answer the "who the fuck still pays any attention to these assholes?" question.

Why aren't we doing that? It seems like an easy way to make money.

Who says we are not?

Because this is going to collapse hard for everyone when when ads don't actually bring in sales.

This is industry standard, unfortunately. I write clickbait for a living, and when I saw that I was getting millions of pageviews I asked for a volume bonus. The answer came back that we actually had no idea how much traffic the site got, because we paid for so much of it.

Thanks a bunch, Jews! Instead of the old goyim economy where we made stuff, we now trade debt-dollars for programming computers to visit each others' websites.

Because the advertisers are bound to wake up to the ruse very soon if everyone abuses it.

How does someone get into writing clickbait for shekels?
polite sage for offtopic

Answer one ad for a "features writer" and learn the tricks of composing "10 Things You Won't Believe About the Jews (Number 4 Is Crazy!)" style shit. Don't settle for a penny less than ten cents a word and never work for HuffPo or Buzzfeed.

Ad revenue from America is worth top-dollar and can be worth literal dollars per click. The amount per click steadily decreases through the various western countries until it reaches places like China where the click is valued at something ridiculous like $0.008. And that's even if the click was found to be valid, i.e. not a fraudulent click, and buying ad clicks is something they watch for.

Isn't this fraud? Did they just fuck up bigtime?

As soon as this thread appeared the site is now 504'ing like crazy. Seems like we've triggered some kikes, gentleman.

friendly reminder that all big youtubers do the same thing. it's safe to say anything kosher that is popular got that way illegitimately.

Is this information well known among people buying the ads, could this information getting out there fuck them over even harder?

This.

This.. is fucking big news.

Report them to Jeff "Cuck the Chinks" Sessions

(kek'd)
Thanks, writefag-kun. If you have any more quick advice poast it my man

t.some writefag

It's going to collapse even harder when companies buying those ads who pay based on site traffic find out the page views were fraudulently inflated.

Verify and check other sites yourself at alexa.com/siteinfo

Grey-area, but I'd be somewhat grumpy if I was buying ads from Washington Post when 59% of their traffic comes from chinese bots.

Maybe we should let them know.
Right Wing Divulgence Squads

Advertising is degenerate, and advertisers are degenerates who must be destroyed.

Just wait, this is going to be cracked down on hard I think.

49.9% of the BBC's traffic comes from China.
2.2% comes from the UK.
Strange as it's the UK's national broadcaster, which i have to pay for. So am i paying for this shit?
archive.is/74I9L

Because is a cheap scam and everybody who is not a complete idiot would realize that it can only end in a mighty lawsuit.

Anyway, that means normies inform themselves there where the news are discussed. They'll come to us eventually. And they'll be angry

This is perfectly normal in today's media market goyim.

What you are missing is they are defrauding their advertisers of hundreds of thousands of dollars. That is criminal.

Is that not a good thing? Worst case scenario, you stop getting shekels, and the media loses hundreds of thousands.

I think they're run by either subverters or morons.

CAN WE USE THIS TO LEVERAGE/HURT CNN/NYT?

I say we put a comprehensive packet together on this detailing the companies selling clicks, the companies buying the clicks, and the advertisers they're defrauding. I can take the packet to them myself IRL in New York City. Just give me 5-10 sheets of paper to put in my hand when I go see them.

the advertisers are all jewish corporations anyway. same team.

They could be charging by impression…clear cut fraud.

Probably more of a revelance issue….to stay on top of search engines for words like Trump

SOMEONE TWEET IT TO THE GOD EMPEROR

THE MSM IS COMMITTING FRAUD.
FRAUD IS ILLEGAL

It's THE fucking occasion to sew their mouth shut.

Holy shit bump for extreme relevance to, you know, politics

EXACTLY

This guarantees infighting and gives them further motivation to tear each other to pieces instead of shilling as one.

What do you want to bet that China has been doing it for free? All of these rags are hardcore anti-Trump, so China it would serve China to help give them a boost.

Is there any evidence that they have been paying for it, or could it be an underhanded way for China to fund them against Trump?

...

I guarantee you this has been going on long before they were every BTFO. I'm betting at least a decade.

Don't forget to email their advertisers explaining the ruse and how they got scammed. Depending on what contracts were signed between the advertiser and the media companies, they could end up getting sued for selling the Advertisers fradulent clicks. This could potentially by Gawker times 10.
sweetness -light.com/archive/a-list-of-companies-advertising-in-the-new-york-times

I could only find that link with some lazy google fu and it might be outdated but it is a good place to start.

Most of these MSM outlets are not even profitable. They cannot sustain themselves. They are kept afloat by (((the rich))) to act as their mouthpieces.

Hope Trump uses this to kill the lugenpresse once and for all.

Take initiative, nigger Trump isn't the be all end all of BTFOing our enemies, find a list of advertisers and inform them that they have been getting scammed.

For bonus points inform the advertisers you will not buy their product/service anymore because "in the interest of business ethics I do not want to give revenue to a firm that is partnered with such a crooked outlet as NYT/Washington Times, etc.

What would happen if we told NYT's advertisers what's going on? There's probably only a few companies in charge of online ads and they're certainly not in the business of (completely) fucking over their clients.
and if that fails, we can just tell the companies themselves. Surely they're not so daft as to get extorted for shekels.

We all are. Haven't you noticed we are living in another dotcom bubble?
It's 1999 again.

Just to be sure, how reliable is alexa as a source for metrics? Do they still rely solely on their Alexa toolbar? The sharp rise in pageviews from china is clear, but can it not have to do with the rising tensions between china and us urging chinese residents to take notice of our news?

STICKY THIS
Let's dig this down and get a decent presentation to send to drudge/breitbart/daily caller. Better yet, get it to FNC or the advertisers themselves.

That's exactly the reason we should do it. Abuse this so the (((MSM))) lose all add revenue.

I don't doubt there is some bot shenanigans happening, but Alexa is unreliable to an extent. When your rating goes up, that doesn't perfectly correlate to an increase in traffic for you. If you are #1000 and site #999 loses a bunch of traffic, you become #999 even thought your traffic might not have changed.

STICKY TIME

most american news outlets are banned there
also they are (likely) using/emulating using the alexa toolbar to get metrics up

True user. Although that's not the point. The point is that China, which blocks these sites, is now contributing a huge portion of the pageviews, suddenly. This is abnormal.

Probably only if you can prove that they did it themselves - they could just claim that those are evil Chinese bots send by the Russians in order to discredit the great and honest Lügenpresse.

We can get leftists riled up by pitting the blame for the election and such on the media by framing this as the media not only defrauding advertisers but the average viewer as well.

The media is rather fucked. Either they are buying bots or being propped up by a foreign power. We really should spread this info.

clarification: Washington Post is not blocked in China, NYT is. Still, how is it explainable that WaPo has more visitors from China than the USA? This could really start sinking ships.

Compile this shit.

Not only cheaper than the revenue, but cheaper than the add revenue and server maintenance required to handle the the bots combined.

Excellent work OP. Its not a coincidence this kikery occurred during WaPo's rollout of a new digital Ad product/platform:

http:/ adage.com/article/media/washington-post-continues-debut-ad-products/301813/

that one single nigger ruined the entire webm

only difference is that start-ups dont go public at the rate they were in first dot.com bubble

No, it can't.

Then these sites would have had a bounce aswell.

HOT STUFF

China is turning into heaven on Earth. If I knew Chinese, I would be packing right now.

here it is as a single image

You're right. Especially the guardian is suspicious because they don't offer actual news chinese would be interested in. (lots of local news)

If by "we" you mean Holla Forums, I seem to recall that Holla Forums advertisements are billed as a flat fee. You want to advertise on Holla Forums, you pay a certain chunk of money and you get your ad on every board for 24 hours. Anyone comes by during that time, they see it.

In answer to your second sentence, yes, fraud is usually an easy way to make money, until you get caught.

bump for important revelation. We need to weaponize this.

STICKY THIS

Story gaining traction.

youtube.com/watch?v=oozMGTzd2X8

Panicked stock drop tomorrow? How will you use your shekels from shorting NYtimes to keep pushing The Globalist Lügenpresse-narrative into the normieverse?

Codemonkey just said a week of two ago that ad revinue only pays for 1% of Holla Forums server costs. It's funded by more profitable projects. I'd think it would be more if they were using bots to farm ads.

bump

Bump. I'm attempting to get this idea out to the usual suspects. This could be a huge story if proven true.

Not only do they produce fake news, they also produce fake readers.

Nice graph bernie, 100% accurate

That needs to be sent to their advertisers, not to them.

...

archive.is/uK2Di

Faceberg was called out for this recently were they not?

If only we could have killed that kike when he was that age.

SAD!

good info anybody found any other news sites doing this shit?

Let's go full GG and get advertisers to drop these sites.

shouldn't be too hard seeing as they're buying traffic to make the ads more expensive

Defrauding shareholders? Obviously I know literally nothing, but I bet there is something about this that isn't allowed. At the very least, they may be forced to drop all the fake clicks and let the world see just how low their true numbers are. It's a good strategic move regardless by whoever released this.

...

FAKE NEWS GETS FAKE VIEWS

Read the title and Y-axis, retard.

heh, if I ran the site it would be littered with ads so the shills and newfags pay for hosting or get scared away (I'm assuming they don't adblock)

The incompetence of these morons always manages to out stand me even when I think they've reached a high point, they manage to one up each other.

Hopefully Trump uses this to start war with China.

Could we notify the advertisers? Like Gamergate x 100? I'm sure I would be pissed if I was paying out the ass for NYT advertising for adverising in china.

i send an email

To be honest it could be anything. It could even be Trump buying those bots and sending that traffic their way only so it can be exposed and put another nail in the coffin of the mainstream media.

WE MUST INFORM THE PEOPLE WHO PUT ADDS ON FOR THEM AND TELL THEM THAT CASH IS BEING STOLEN FROM THEM!

INFORM THE FEDS AND THE INVESTORS

EXPOSE THE FRAUDS

fkn lol

It would also be productive to inform their shareholders, stock manipulation is grounds for a yuge lawsuit.

kek aproved my post

but it seems user is sleeping.

this

dubz confirm. Some one start a class action against them if you have a subscription or some shit.

Good God that would be hilarious. Trump could continue toying with the media until finally dropping the hammer. But only once he gets bored and is satisfied with the job the new media is doing.

I smell virtual proxy servers.
It's a fact that chinks are niggers of IT world they will fake it/boot leg it when given a chance.
You see you can set up a virtual proxy mirroring anything while you have physical server located in other nog/gook infested rat hole. Virtualized servers are much cheaper and supposedly just as secure which would appeal to chinks.

8ch filters chinese IPs and forces captcha (The hardest ones I might add) every single time. You'd have to have legions of pajeets, chink or other sub human neets to do captcha checking for you. For example when Bui hired half-manned bots to spam entire 8ch. You can't view bot or farm ad revenue if the site doesn't even load for you.

Just do a Gawker Media on them and inform all advertisers of these viewership manipulations. No matter what, if the advertisers believe it (and they will, they can check for themselves) these outlets will lose so much money. So much in fact, they may just go out of business.
Notice that this started in December, after they were BTFO by Trump's election. Their prestige and good name are hanging on by a thread, this will break them.

The plaintiffs for stock manipulation would be stockholders, not the subscribers, if anyone has the disposable time and income to buy stock in NYT and contact a lawyer willing to take on the case it would be appreciated, although it seems counterproductive temporarily the more stock you own in these companies the stronger your case is, lawyers are likely only going to bother with stock manipulation suits if there are a lot of plaintiffs and it evolves into class action or you invested a lot of money, also buying right after the news of bot manipulation breaks could complicate the case, really you are better off finding a list of stockholders and emailing them, try to recommend a gentile lawyer if possible also.

finance.yahoo.com/quote/NYT/holders?p=NYT

Here is a list of their stockholders if anyone has the time and patience to hunt down their email. Obviously Carlos Slim and the (((banks))) holding their stock are not going to be too interested in fucking over their propaganda arm but this is the starting point for instigating a stock manipulation suit.

FAKE NEWS FAKE VIEWS

Doubles again, Kek calls us to action.

Kikes forge their stats and fraud advertisers for shekels?

Gee i didn't see this coming!

finance.yahoo.com/quote/GHC/holders?p=GHC

Apparently WaPo is part of a larger investment conglomerate and its shareholders are not publicly available, this complicates things but we should not let their little shell game let them off the hook.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graham_Holdings_Company

Feel free to send tips to gentile law firms also, inducing them to cold call potential clients will probably get the ball rolling on this bigly.

One with archive linked is best version.

Now this is a fucking happening. One of three things is going on:
But if you look at other websites like WSJ on Alexa, they're still sub-10% viewership from China. This is only happening to scumbag luegenpresse outlets, who all have this massive spike shortly after the election. That means it's one of the first two options and that's a massive fucking story regardless of which it is.

Now we need e-mail target lists. Some brave souls will need to discover who is advertising with them currently. Preferably those with good opsec who are minimally exposed to targeted advertisement. Only with these can we organize effective e-mail programs and go full Gamergate.

In the meantime you can spread this story to everyone. Email right-wing friendly outlets and tell them to cover the story. Tell everyone on social media. Inform normalfags IRL.

Nice.

FAKE NEWS FAKE VIEWS

You mean Jeff Bezos' blog?

This. Something like this seems doable by Holla Forums standards, I don't mind sending a ton of emails like GG times
Who do we email and what kind of proof should we include?

This
The advertisers must be told they are getting scammed big time

Shareholders are as much, if not more of a target as advertisers, shareholders are already public knowledge, but advertisers are not>>9220477, I would suggest emailing their advertising team pretending to be an interested advertiser and then asking for a list of advertisers for "our business analytics team to factor into their models" or something like that. Problem is you will need to create a convincing fake website and shell company for the ploy to work and you can't post about it ITT because kikes and shills lurk here. In the meantime dropping tips to top securities litigation firms about stock manipulation can't hurt either, when those lawyer kikes smell the shekels of the impending suit they will find the stock holders for us like an eagle finds a wounded possum, although email and dox of stockholders would be helpful also.

sweetness- light.com/archive/a-list-of-companies-advertising-in-the-new-york-times

This is way fucking outdated at 2006 but it was the only list I could find. This is very rudimentary but visiting without an adblocker to see which ads pop up and then contacting those companies works also. They definitely use adsense and botnets are a violation of adsenses rules, not sure if (((google))) will care but it is worth a shot.

A lot of these banks are going to be pissed about stock manipulation, statistically, not all of them are going to care more about propaganda than profit since there are dozens of them, even if they are run by kikes, in addition a lot of the institutional holders of NYT are mutual funds which have fiscal obligations to their investors. Contacting major institutional holders will be a priority since they consist of nearly half of Lugenpresse's market capitalization.

Even if there isn't a stock manipulation suit from these firms, when half of fake news revenue is revealed as fraudulent they are going to sell the shit out of it and crash the fake news with no survivors.

OP here. Be ready for possible counter-narratives. Attacks on the messenger (Alexa.com) instead of the message? Found a site that has filtered out China almost completely. But that's not the site that is used for giving websites rankings.

Can't you just visit the site with ad-block off and see which ads are shown?

Can you show a screen pic of that?

THIS, YOU RETARDS

Perhaps we should be contacting their advertisers. I bet they'd love to know about how they're being scammed into paying more money for fake views.

REMINDER THAT THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA REMAINS UNPUNISHED FOR ALL THEIR LYING

I did my part and tweeted the Don (and a few others).

Check the Dons twitter and re-tweet. Spread it. Deseminate.

Because if we do it, eventually ad-buyers are gonna wisen up and not trust us, boycotting us for committing fraud against them. Perhaps even sue us.

I read about half way down and so far no one has posited the obvious technical matter: these "views" are most likely connections that have come across via DoS or DDoS attacks. Lord knows a lot of that activity originates in Asia. The simplest explanation is that these large media sites are under long term sustained DDoS attacks and that they own firewalls or other DDoS mitigation tools on the network that simply drops the connection, which the initiating computer would then reattempt connections over and over again, hence all the "views". It would be difficult to parse whether these "views" came from computers with good intentions (people) or bad intentions (malware / DDoS infected hosts) unless you were on the inside of these companies and could read their log reports.

Just my 2 cents. Source: Network Security Engineer for F500 company.

Probably. This would be grounds for a Bernie Maddoff style jailing. Someone get this to the FEC as well.

I really want to believe this is true

Wasn't there another site that was like Alexa but free?

You've got to be kidding me.

Shit's true folks

How much would it cost to buy these fake clicks?
I guess it would be per click?
I hope this finally buries the MSM.

How does the economics of this even work? Do they get money when people click their articles, or do they need a certain amount of traffic to not lose face? Then they must be spending less on Chinese clicks than they earn in return?

I considered doing this, but Holla Forums convinced me it was a bad idea when I pitched it to them. Maybe they just talked me out of it so they could go do it themselves with less competition.

It's all a big jew scam, but they use these fake numbers from the fake ratings company to shill to their advertisers to justify what they charge them to advertise.

(((Alexa))) = Amazon = Bezos

Bots are currently locking the price at 14.88. This is not normal.

w ww.investing.com/equities/new-york-times

How the everliving fuck does the Department of the Treasury use that much fucking money?

What do they do? Just send daisy cutter loads of money to everyone?

You are correct in your assessment

presumably they use this to scam advertisers lol

(ie: 'look how much traffic we get, you have to pay extra to advertise on our site')

bbc.com
49.9% traffic comes from China.
2.2% comes from the UK.

bbc.co.uk
49.7% traffic comes from China.
31.0% comes from UK.

It would seem odd that a chinaman would search for the bbc with the UK domain suffix.

The Guardian loses £100 million per year which is provided by super rich donors.
Its not a business its a propaganda effort.

Im not in the slightest bit surprised to learn that they are now paying for fake views on their fake news.

Holy shit. If this is true, and if it's been going on for years… This is grounds for a lawsuit of mythic proportions.

Isn't BBC blocked in China or they have millions of English teachers.

The BBC is not blocked in China.
Im sure they have plenty of english teachers too but not that many.

Economy cant be based on swindles and lies.
Economy is based on truth. The reason why advertisers pay others for ads is because they know that some percentage of those ads will make audience buy their product. If you fake traffic to your site, and many sites from same country do that then advertisers will see nobody buying their products even though they advertised MEANING they will stop advertising or drop prices of ads dramatically.

The reason US companies are able to use this scheme compared to other countries because there is SOMETHING unique and truthful not only about US but about its citizens.

Only truth user. Only truth wins in the end.

You'd think they would since they've promoted miscegenation and bestiality for decades.

How reliable is this 'alexa.com'? How do they get their metrics?

Toolbars.

http:// alexa.com/plans

They also offer on-site analytics, but no idea if the news sites use those. If they do, would be double hilarious. It might be useful for them to monitor their ranking compared to competitors. Might be worthwhile to look into other metrics services like Quantserver, DoubleClick and others too. News sites are laden with tracking scripts nowadays.

So is there a list of advertisers to message?

ADVERTISERS NEED TO KNOW
DROWN YOURSELVES IN LITIGATION, KIKES

So they basically have 0 evidence to support their statistics, and might as well have pulled them out of their ass to get clicks?

Good to know.

...

Thanks, I assume people that know how to search for sponsors and advertisers will keep releasing more

I would honestly take alexa's results with a grain of salt. Some mention toolbars, and one article mentioning this noted "a network of 25000 users", which is a depressingly low population size. Needs metrics sources from places other than Alexa as the data they gather does not hold up to scrutiny.

Wow, so this is the final boss.

Because it's really about accelerationism, not ethics in journalism.

Enough advertisers would stop sponsoring these companies for them to take a hit, but really, any individual media outlet is just an expendable cog in the jewish machine. If they didn't lose enough shekels for them just to shut it down, they'd probably keep a few advertisers who are colluding with the outlet to spread their agenda.

But the final boss is not the media, it's international jewry in its entirety from the banking and economic side to the entertainment and spiritual side.

Actually, I read that wrong.

...

Nielsen ratings uses the same methodology and it is still considered the gold standard for advertisers, Alexa's sample size is relevant so the fraudulent traffick is as well.

Advertisers will still be interested to know that half of their "impressions" are from DDoS.

I fail to see how estimations would "by pure chance" go from being 5% of the site's traffic to being the absolute majority of all traffic to the site.

Alexa's metrics use a relevant sample size, anyways, do any of you niggers into statistics? Alexa using the toolbar to gather data does not change the fact that Fake News is using Fake Views, no email those fucking advertisers and stockholders.

Chink clicks being worthless ad revenue wise is mostly irrelevant when you consider the fact that they're getting better page rankings.

Being at the top of search engines means they'll get a lot more of authentic page views along with the usual pseudoarguments of "this is news because we're popular".

fffffaaakkkeeeee

Look at other news websites for comparison. This is unique to a select few publications, all in the same time frame.

Here's another example the article didn't mention - the BBC.

Have people been spreading this? Maybe there needs to be a unified name like #fakeNewsfakeViews or just #FakeViews

SHUT IT DOWN, GOYIM!

They've lost their fucking minds because their traffic being fake news if you will, is CRIMINAL. That's because the advertisments are priced based on that traffic. So they're paying like 10k a day so they can rip fuckers off for a 100. That's straightforward FRAUD.

They offer 7 day trials but the article doesn't actually say that the data by country comes from Alexa.com. It also uses the wrong form of "it's" and capitalises the adjective in the first line. Would be better to link somewhere else if possible.

Where is this interview from? I'd like to hear more about this

They put him back on after realizing he was joking, but it just goes to show how weak they are. If any of the interviewees continue to call CNN fake news it will cause further irreparable damage and they know the facts are out there, they are desperately afraid of losing their foothold on the American psyche.

I wonder how many faults they have during their interviews compared to other networks.

Pull a goobergate and rev up those emails, anyone have a list of the different sites sponsors? All we have to do is contact each of the companies that puts advertising on their sites and tell them the sites are artificially inflating their traffic to remain relevant and steal ad revenue. Thats click fraud. The ad networks should file lawsuits against these news rags.

Guys they arent that stupid. This is not how cyou do click fraud.
Clicks, even fake ones from china are wortth jack shit.

To do proper clickfraud you take bots from tier 1 countries.

I dont know what this is but it definitely isnt clickfraud.

That's yet to be seen.

I thought the whole point was to falsely inflate their reach in China to attract advertisers.

lol why is jew media so obsessed with trying to jew their profits from chinks? hymiewood, the MSM outlets, glourified blogs pretending to be real news, dying fake news outlets with shit ratings, etc.

The only good part of this is that mongoloids are nonexistent in the (((media))) still. They'll shill their pet niggers to death but that's easy to ignore since they just blend into the the shadows the way evil creatures tend to. Seeing a gook on screen is truly infuriating and they're only good as walking wallets dumb soulless chinks need to learn their place, which is fucking nowhere just like the exclusion acts fucking intended.

alternative-right.blogspot.com/2016/12/why-social-media-is-dying.html

Why Social Media is Dying

"Over the past few months, it has become apparent that social media and real life are increasingly diverging. The proof of this is that people in real life — a wide range of classes, backgrounds and outlooks, but generally effective people and not mouth-breathing attendees to the civilization process — are interested in the stuff that social media ignores, and vice-versa.

This suggests a widening disconnect between the online audience and the real world. As said in the past, the internet is the new daytime TV, and it has taken over media by turning into television-level clickbait, i.e. the lowest common denominator tabloid fodder that sparks human interest. This will only increase the polarization of America and Europe leading to Balkanization as democracy and its clever little plans fade."

"All of this is dancing around the permanent dot-com doom, which comes from the simple fact that less than 10% of people represent nearly all of the internet activity. This means that all internet statistics are fake to the core.

For example, looking over social media, we can see the following over-represented groups: baristas, food service workers, the retired, the lonely, those on disability payments for mental illness, unsuccessful college students, basement neckbeards, people recovering from injuries and recently divorced people. In other words, just like daytime TV was in the 1980s, it is a solace for the lonely.

This means that people who are having successful lives — achieving goals, doing interesting things, conquering fears, meeting people — are nowhere to be found. They may stop in to check email and do some shopping, maybe read the news, but the most desirable audience for advertisers is totally absent from the net itself.

Looking at this, we can see that the coming internet industry collapse will be vast and result in massive economic damage as the economy adjusts to having lost hundreds of billions of dollars in formerly perceived value — overnight. The dot-com guys have known this was coming since 2008, when the first studies of this kind came out.

A cascade will follow as other over-rated industries, based on participation by people who turn out to have no money and no social influence, also collapse. Entertainment is on the chopping block. A “successful” album engages a third of a percent of the population. How is that anything but entirely fake, given that the rest seem busy with entirely different things?

Business leaders will find out too late that now that our country is no longer homogeneous, and that equality has driven the natural leaders away from most public spaces, the people they are counting on as customers are in fact not customers but lonely, broken people wasting time and waiting to die. In addition to being tragic, this is a failure of a business model."

It's middle management trying to prop up an imploding business model. Hell, an imploding management style, business has become choked with people trying to find ways to put a numeric value on the quality of a person's day to day work.

Points out the real meat of it. The people who actually have money don't have the time to be bothered by advertisements (and adblock the fuck out of stuff) or they are at work, where they have no time to skulk about potentially being shilled to by ads.

Alexa uses toolbars to gather view information. Why would clickbots be running alexa toolbars, or any browser plugins for that matter? They're simple scripts that create http(s) requests and toss the response to generate fake web traffic. For this to work at all, they have to be using a chinese botnet, possibly embedded in a very popular browser addon in china, to do all this. This raises the question how they get around the firewall so easily.

One user raised a good point: why the fuck are they doing this in china of all places? India lacks a firewall and is much easier to clickbot in. I heavily suspect Alexa fucked up, or maybe a tonne of chinese started installing some alexa-supported add-on (or an add-on became alexa supported-) boosting the share of people that visit the MSM.

Aren't there other metrics services that can support these statistics?

(checked)
true tbh

The vast majority of productive economic activity on the internet (that isn't Amazon or Ebay) is on private corporate intranets, with no public metrics whatsoever.

At the very least go and give them a negative review

Advertisers don't give a single fuck about chinese impressions. Even if they tried to do clickfraud like this, it wouldn't get them much if any return as even actual REAL chinese traffic is one of the worst in existence. Clickfraud using US/EU IPs is easy. There is literally no reason for them to do this with chinese IPs.

Just accept you do not know why their alexa is behaving like this. This is 100% not them trying to defraud their advertisiers.

...

It's not a toolbar, it's a cookie. If you see ads (ie. don't have adblock enabled), chances are at least 1 of them is going to have the alexa cookie attached to it and from then on they can track your shit,

Cookies by themselves do not track you. They must be accompanied by scripts on the websites themselves to track you. There are no such scripts on the MSM. Cookies are just dumb text files containing metadata so they can track users jumping between websites (where every website has the script to log the presence). Its what google uses.

Wrong. Cookies inherently track, especially ad revenue based cookies. Which is why they can "serve" tailored advertising based on what you're looking at. That's how adsense knows when you read a story about pro-gun stories, they can then serve you ads by Glock for example. Then we can get into the cookies that can't be deleted and so on. Then there's shit which you can do by javascript to enable a "permanent presence." Then there's the unique browser ID finger printing which can be done, and directly encoded into cookies.

Sorry user. But you either just woke up out of a coma or just time traveled 20 years into the future.

There's some basic stuff for you to read here: archive.is/LqRy3 or you can read the more technical stuff here on how to make your own here: archive.is/t8Pff or read about how "behavioral cookies" and how social media linking can be used to track you across the interwebs here: archive.is/TGJmH

Hahahaha do you guys get paid as much as the chink click farmers for your shilling?

this

Ugh its painful when people like you, who couldn't code their way out of a paper bag, try to sound like a techie.

Only the domain that set a cookie can read it later on.
If you set a cookie that contains information, only that domain you used to set the cookie can read the cookie.
So in that scenario the site that set the cookie has to retrieve the information later on and send it to alexa which doesn't make any sense because in that case it could just send the info to alexa right away without setting a 1337 hax0r cookie.

Either that or it has to embed a script hosted by alexa, so alexa can set cookies using their own domain and track you themselves.

And all of that is useless discussion because:
Alexa does not distribute such scripts (neither server sided nor JS widgets) for webmasters to embed in their sites.

Their data is from their own toolbar and other browser plugins that partner with them.

He would autistically invent things and be a commercial failure, just like he was in reality.

Stop being a retard. RFC2965 allows this. On top of that websites can't "write" to cross-domain cookies, but they can read cross-domain cookies. Facebook does that themselves all the fucking time and has been known since 2010. FB itself even explains how to do this via their own JS-SDK. Don't let your stupidity hit you on the way out.

Literal retard detected.

That old as fuck trick Facebook is or was using was able to read cookies for the parent domain when the parent domain
included FB in a fucking iframe for login/like-button.

FB can not just read random cookies from other domains you illiterate noob.

SO JUST LIKE I SAID ALEXA WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A WIDGET OR IFRAME ON THE PAGE IN QUESTION TO DO THIS

The Young Turks are the worst violators of this.

They have 3.5 million "subscribers" but their videos average 20,000 views.

Chinese botnet is made of actual people, they don't have the programming skill to make a real botnet.

Retarded idiot who can't fucking read above grade 7 detected. It's in the current SDK. For someone who claims someone can't "code their way out of a wet paper bag." You're doing a great job of showing you're a fucking shill. Go read the fucking SDK, set aside the afternoon. Get back to everyone when you show yourself to be an illiterate fucking more that doesn't know the difference between a semi-colon and colon. Let alone the difference between C+ an FORTRAN.

I hope you realize that reading cookies cross-domain would have serious SECURITY consequences? Such as other websites being able to retrieve your login session token on other websites, and reading credentials? Cross-domain cookie reading is specifically forbidden you colossal retard.

Like said you need an iframe (planted by the MSM themselves!) on the page itself to plant and read the cookie. No alexa cookies, nor iframes, exist on these websites. Alexa depends on toolbars and other third parties to give them traffic data.

Not to mention

How dense are you?
They can read cookies for the parent domain if that domain chose to put an FB iframe on their site or include the SDK.
And of fucking course an embedded JS-SDK can read/write cookies on any page its fucking included on.

SO AGAIN, JUST LIKE I SAID ALEXA WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A WIDGET OR IFRAME ON THE PAGE IN QUESTION TO DO THIS

How delusional are you to think any page can just read any cookie set by any other site by simply by using Facebooks 133t h4x?

Do you realize that would make 99% of persistent logins in existence today hack-able in a heartbeat simply by making someone visit some page that has facebooks magic code?

So faking the numbers make sense to trick the prey to pay for a bigger perceived exposure.

Ads obviously have geo tracking and the advertisers pay based on where the user is from.
Users from china are worth jack shit and don't generate meaningful ad revenue. If they wanted to defraud their advertisers they would do it with bots located in European or other first world countries.

Maybe they already do and wanted to add a viewer share in china.

Hey, I wrote the original article (and I do all the orange border graphics). This is really interesting, good find. Here's the original NYT graphic for proof (should be the highest quality out there).

(heil)

I remember reading a gamergay thread and one user stated they mention to the advertisers the stats that dictate ad costs are likely manufactured via overseas and they should see if they are really getting their money's worth. There was a unhappy former employee of one of the sites, maybe it was vox or vice that wrote a blogpost about it. Don't know if that helps, but separating advertising dollars from shitty companies is pretty easy when they are likely being ripped off.

are you telling me Infowars.com truly is the #1 news website in the world

If someone is performing that service, it would make sense that they try to show their work on measurement sites. If it's done manually by people, then their Alexia, GA and ad companies should match up, if it's done by bot, then the sent requests would are mutually exclusive and Alexia can be the outlier as a result, so you could be correct.

They probably also have an algorithm to compare people with the extension installed against estimated internet users per country, so you don't necessarily need to send say 10 million requests to reflect 10 million users, maybe closer to 10,000.

Couldn't hurt to make noise regardless. Make the people with financial ties to be asking questions and double check the numbers. Worst case, Alexia is utter garbage that can't filter out fake traffic.
