Balkanization, while nice in theory, is a disaster from the perspective of realpolitik.

Realistically if the US Balkanized, the subsequent ethno-states which formed (they would not be as clearly cut as you imagine) would inevitably be subject to either Russian or Chinese indirect control, essentially extinguishing the last real military bulwark against the end of Western Civilization (Russians are not Western Civ, and W. Europe is too weak to resist Russian intervention).
