STARMADE

I'm sorely tempted to start up a StarMade server for Holla Forums, but I'd like to know if there's any interest first.

For those that don't know, StarMade is basically a free Space Engineers, that despite being made in java, runs infinitely better, has more stuff to do, doesn't lag when you fly around in massive ships, and has more substantial updates. And most importantly, unlike that other 3d Java-based block-game, it's not infested with twelve year olds.

So what do you say, Holla Forums? Are you autismal enough for StarMade?

I remember spending a few hours building a White Base inside that game but then didn't it went Steam Early Access ?

Cause I remember dropping it because of that.

The paid version is basically a glorified Donate button. The demo on Steam is literally the same game, with no time limit or anything. There is literally no reason to buy the paid version.

hahahahaha

I played it when /svgg/ over at half discovered it. Played it for like a year. Schema actually took features from our threads (symmetry was us, you're welcome).

Then yogscast did a series of videos on it. Community was never the same again.

I've never seen an underage on it in all the time I've played, and any of them that showed up from yogscast would be gone by now. The game's too autistic for even them to grasp.

ip when?

By chance were you there last time we played starmade?

Well, I haven't actually set up the server yet. I'd like to make sure there's a desire for one first.

But if you're really that eager, I could try running it for like a month and see if we actually use it…

Fuck forgot to take of name

If you mean the time where you hijacked a server because the owner didn't register, no, but I've heard about it.

If you mean the one where we joined a random server and started making a cyberpunk dystopia, yes.

Fuck I wasn't there for that one.

didnt mean to sage

Not many people were, to be fair.

Anyway, the server's kinda hit a snag for now, it should be up in the next 24 hours, though.

Played this with a friend and his idiot friend and the friend got a bunch of resources then got a schematic off the server list then said the game was boring and left. It was a good reminder to me that 99% people are fucking morons. Game is fun enough though.

This game has probably the worst fucking tutorial I've ever seen.

I've been at it for like 10 minutes and it just keeps blasting more and more hotkeys and information at me in text dialogues where I have no control over my character and no practical way to tell what the fuck they're talking about. I have no reason to know about a ship's "power and thrust" when I've barely had the opportunity to figure out how to walk around yet, and haven't even experienced having items in my inventory. What makes it better is how tiny the text is, it's just painful to read to begin with.

I don't get how the developers expect anyone to understand all of this fucking shit.

I haven't even got to playing the game yet and I can easily see why it has some negative reviews in steam. Or perhaps that is the reason.

If you guys really want, I can talk to the owner of LCB and see if he'll put his server back up. I think he took it down after it died out. I've run servers with him before, back in the pre-yogs days. He and his admin team know what they're doing.

Now it's telling me to do 2 different things at the same time, jesus christ. Also taking away my control is obnoxious as fuck.

And some more good old times.

Gee I wonder why this game isn't more popular.

...

That would be nice, my attempts at running a server are going pretty badly.

And nothing of value was lost.

That's exactly what I thought when I clicked uninstall.

Well, seeing as how the server is being fucktarded, I may as well try hosting it on my own until that gets sorted out.

Just don't be a cunt.

Also, I want to apologize for being a dick. This game is honestly hard to get into on your own, you really do need someone to walk you through it. If you're not too mad at me, I could try and teach you how to Starmade on the server…

Underage faggots left when they got bored of the technical patches and additions instead of "More X! MORE Y!".

The community's shrunk as fuck since.

What makes this better than other similar games?

Well, the only similar game that I can think of is Space Engineers, and for one it doesn't lag horribly, it isn't restricted to DX11, it has far, FAR more weapons than just gatlings and missiles, docking actually works… These are just off the top of my head.

Also, the proper server is finally up.

You go to their website and download the game
That's how you get the game, and you don't need to pay for it.

bumping because I want to play once I get it downloaded

Thanks for the bump. is the real server. It finally stopped being fucktarded.

serbian ded
RIP whitopia

Sorry might've been me trying to land at a lava planet.

wew boys come back now

Are you guys playing the demo or a pirated version?

The demo is the full version, the paid version is nothing but a donation.

Server owner here. There's also a mumble you can use.

serbian dead agian?

I really need to stop landing on planets to strip mine them.

Whitey why did you have to crash that moon dong into everything
RIP in piece server it was actually fun having the 4 of us play together
too bad the space niggers fucked our shit up so many times

Fuck, restarting.

Sweet, the server is back up.
Keep in mind that should you want to play, the game is completely free on StarMade.org/downloads
You don't even need to register to play on servers, you can 'Play as a guest' with any name you choose, no registration required.

I also thought pic related is a neat little sub-mechanic. Basically, you attach Cargo blocks to a Storage module, and when that storage module is empty, the blocks are completely transparent, you can even walk through that space. As the storage module fills up, these blocks appear as a sort of 'physical manifestation' of the stuff you put into the storage modual. It's a really small, unimportant detail that they disappear/reappear depending on how full the storage module is.

They could've just made Cargo blocks be there all the time, and the game wouldn't have suffered all that much, but they took the time to pay attention to it. Now I can live out my dreams of being a space-trucker.

fuck, forgot pic

As in beer?

Idk if it's open source, and I don't care tbh, open source games have a tendency to have shitter communities.

Fool me once shame on you

Okay, I've bit. What's your next move?

I would play again with you it but

I wish corneroids didn't become abandonware. I just want to jew in space.

Wish there was a way to stabilize something you shootout rail. I can get things to fire linearly (relatively) from say a turret but the moment you start moving the docking mechanics and thing not being subject to your gravity or whatever the hell this is results in "nope"

server is dead again. Hope the pirate station I was attacking doesn't destroy my ship I spent the last hour or 2 working on.

I am so lucky.

I remember the games we had last year ,was a lot of fun…
dumping some pics !

Part 1/3

P3/3

enjoy folks

Ah, yeah, the eigth empire. Fun times, that was. Were you there when we were on the server with 'donation rewards' like teleporting wherever you want? First server we were on, I think. You know, where our base was blown up by the autist with the ship big enough it crashed most of our clients because he used his adminbucks to teleport all the way out there instantly? Good times. Were you one of the folks who was in the mumble/voip around that time?

Keeps going down around the same time every day.

...

It might be the auto restart. Can you get back on now, or should I just disable that thing?

It's still down, so nobody can get on at the moment.

so was this shit like blockade runner 2.0

disable the auto restart or whatever it is
happens daily

Alrighty, autorestart disabled, server restarted.

...

was up for a little, now it's down again

Died again. I know it wasn't me since I was only changing 2 of my missile swarm launchers to target lock launchers.

The server died again, just now.

Oh, hey. That's my Jormungandr to the right of the Imperium cruiser, the vertically docked superstructure attached to a giant laser drill. Though that's an early shot, it really was just a simple cylinder ship, never got to adding the exterior hull. I did, however, fill it out with a metric shitload of vertical power stacks with forward and outward branches, not the most efficient, but relatively so. Like the usual double-L configuration, but with the vertical block extending downwards and the L-forks starting in the middle of the stack, then extending from that center hull scaffold to the two rear sections before the tapers. Hard to explain. I filled the spaces directly inbetween each double L with power capacitors or shield generators/capacitors, trying to keep it as dense and lean as possible; probably awful for splash damage survivability in retrospect, but I considered adding a bunch of spaced armor layers at the time, larger than the real hull dimensions.

It ate planets something fierce if nothing else, and I'd like to think it was competitive with the more utilitarian no-frills designs in that respect. Definitely enough for the admins to get pissy that I was lagging the server and told me only to do it during offtime, then got on me when I did it in offtime anyways. Shame I lost the schematic, I only have the rough outline of the dimensions now because I didn't take it off from the serverside save. I have no idea what I was thinking.

Fuck me it's down again.
What the hell is going on? I don't think either me or the one other player on the server were doing anything to lag it out. I was copy-pasting turrets in the shipyard, and he was making a new Factory area.

...

And nothing of value was lost.

draw distance is a bitch in that game

How exactly does a mining fleet work?

Can I build gundams in it

yes but I don't think they move
