I can already feel the 2000s nostalgia happening. By next decade it will be in full swing. Wonder how they'll incorporate that in movies and TV, not as many movies became iconic in the 2000s than the 90s and 80s. I wonder if anyone will be nostalgic for the 2010s. At best maybe the kids who grew up on MCU and capeshit but actual adults won't care that much I believe.

'member 911 goy!?

well tbh i can't really say they were worse than this decade, or the ones to come

scrubs coulld definitely be one "cult tv series" from the 00s
That's the case with every decade nostalgia

I 'member!

fun fact, the 2002 spiderman movie had a scene in which spiderman caught a helicopter in a web he made between the twin towers. they had to cut it because of 9/11.

src or fuck off

...

...

what does a Student Representative Council have to do with anything?

I remember movie trailers from when I was 4. Demolition Man.

...

Would it have made the movie better?

2000s were remembered for everybody being mad at Bush, the late 2010s and early 2020s will be remembered for everyone getting mad at Trump. Nothing much changes I guess.

The final version would have been better so I guess it would have been memorable.

Newgrounds

and the early to mid 2010s can be remembered for Obama chimping out and throwing his shit all over the rule of law. Convenient you wouldn't mention that.

Alright who let the 8 year old kid on my imageboard!?

what are you talking about, user? the first spiderman movie was 15 years ago

...

It's time to face your insecurities about time, user
It's 2017
2030 is literally closer to us than 2000

I wish it was 2030 already so I would be more than likely dead.

just do it

hWy?

There was such a lack of identity in the 2000's that they would have a hard time doing much more than referencing specific things like that montage in s3 of bojack horseman when they flash back to 2007.

Yeah, I do agree. At times I can remember it as 90s 2.0 with a little of something else too. I can go back and watch stuff from 2000-2006 and can tell you they had that 2000s 'feel' to it but it wasn't really something you can generalize like you could do with the decades of the 20th century. 2007 onward was something different and by then it was well into the decade as well but at the same time, kinda started to feel like proto 2010s as well.

I believe this is due to the maturing of the internet.

Yahoo had changed their web chat room rules when some mothers complained of their children masturbating on web cams for strangers.

Myspace had become _the_ way to promote your bands music.

Newgrounds and ebaum's world and deviant art provided a venue for autists to express themselves.

Reality TV had branched out from the Real World/Road Rules to a large number of inane genre's as a result of the Writer's Strike.

Those of us in high school from 1998-2006 had grown up in the 90s and still had that 90s nihilism about us.

The 90's had this sense that we were at the end of history. Then 2001 happened and that feeling faded. Fast.

Jon Stewart became _the_ news source for young people. The 24 hour news cycle began around this same time period as well. No longer could we go all the way to the airport terminal to see off a friend or family member with the advent of the TSA.

Maybe the identity of the 2000's was being cattled by the government and corporations. 2010's accepting it as gospel. and 2020's is when we get shipped off to FEMA camps.

man i miss pre-regulated internet

Pre-regulated internet was the closest thing to the "New Frontier" cowboy times as things got.

A far off second would be when something like TOR was new.

:-(

I wonder if there will be a fiction genre glorifying the freedom of early internet like burger frontier stories, with current year depicted as the death of freedom gangster period.

I miss the days of the early Internet. There was such a freedom to be found there before the transnationals smelled shekels in those mountains.

Slightly angered but at the same time unphased because everything after the 1700's was shit.

Yahoo and everything are full of terrible comments and opinions

Oh shut your stupid fucking mouth you reddit spacing blackpilled faggot.

MEMZ HERE!!!!

...

...

I wouldn't be worried about FEMA camps unless you're a communist.

excuse me, i don't know what are you talking about "amazing spiderman"? never heard of it, but then again it sounds like something very shitty and reddit tier so i'm not worried

Trumpcucks are historically illiterate tbh

I just don't want nu metal to come back.

it makes me feel like i've transcended time

2030 was closer to us than 2000 on 1st jan, 2001 because time doesn't go backwards

fag

What sort of Common Core bullshit logic is that?

...

dude nu metal was the shit

He's not even a socialist.
Hitler didn't even do that.
The only ones who did that were jewish bolshevik communists. And then they killed off all of the attractive and talented/smart people because equality, goy.

If date differences no longer count and if no past event can be revisited, does that mean that all historical events lie infinitely far in the past?

well they're inaccessible so yeah
the future is always close than the past. the present is an illusion.

...

I was born in '95 so the 2000's are my childhood years.
I remember:

I remember hating smartphones as they started becoming more popular because many people my age would stop talking to me so much and instead would be sitting in some corner browsing facebook.

I know one thing, when more and more people started using the internet, you certainly got a view of just how stupid the general population is. Nearly everyone has this wealth of information available to them, more than the library of Alexandria, and what do they use it for? To bitch about their mom not getting them a new iphone.

Internet access makes those capable of greatness help reach their potential and those on a quest for self-destruction even more capable of accomplishing that goal.

The 2000's certainly had a unique flavor.
It was pretty shit though, the kids raised in that era did become a lot of the SJW losers we know now.

I would like to say also, that the 90's felt like the morals and virtues of the US were demolished, so many goth, emos and metal "nothing matters" types. The US was still recovering from the insanity of the 60's, 70's and even 80's. As everything settled in and the left came to dominate the spectrum of influence, such as the churches, television, educational system and government. People just seemed to settle into the new normal. The 2000's had no real personality as a result. The 2010's is really the journey of the US (and other Western countries) to try and find meaning in the meaningless world the left created. So you have people springing off into the far left and far right, not content to be the apathetic losers of the 2000's.

The 80s needed to stay.
People realized this.
That's why the 80s are coming back now in alot of ways.

nice job boys

But user, they don't have 300 shitty apps that you probably won't even look at once, much less actually use, of course they're shitty and archaic :^)

People bring back a decade every 30 years, it depends on the quality of the comeback if it stays or not
neo70's did happen in the 00's, but that fun but disciplined kind of style didn't serve with the Americans post-911
neo60's also happened in the 90's, quite famously too

Post yfw 90s kids will be eternally BTFO by the mere fact that noughties kids did not and will not go through an obnoxious phase where they collectively gloat about how good their childhood media was.

They do though.

Unless we take charge.

What is your point? You don't have to be a socialist to clear out political dissidents.

Hitler focused on removing undesirable elements that were having a toxic effect on his society. Trump has spent his whole life collaborating with those toxic elements and has given a few of them key positions in government.

Like is said, Drumpfcucks are historically illiterate.

It's about maintaining control not equality. They kill the leader class, intellectuals and dissidents to guarantee control but they also kill off the people who are actually invested in the ideology too because they will be pissed off when they see how their system is implemented.

He doesn't need to care about the retarded plebs that make up his core support because they will gleefully fall for his bullshit. It's the race realists, white "supremacists" and National Socialists that he will be sending to prison. You fags deserve it too for cheering him on for the last 2 years tbh. He's already started discussions on how to tackle "white supremacy" and that will eventually develop into race realists and jew wise people getting sent to gulags.

I think he was calling you a defeatist.

The problem is not having enough knowledge to know what's worth looking up. I prefer phisical libarys. Sometimes it takes seeing the book itself too see if you are interested in the information within.

Well. I’m sure you’ll find new friends in jail.

Born in 1994. Not from the U.S or Europe.
After 2008 when more people have internet, suddenly realized that the world is mostly comprised of idiots.
2006 came along, the Chinese TV series westernized. Special effects and over-exaggerated acting became the norm and the selling points. Whitewashing historical evil women characters and lauding them as stronk feminists became the trend in Mainland China. Hong Kong Tv series repeated the same formulas until I can guess everything in the show in two scenes. Hollywood became obsessed with capeshit and oscarbaits but they also became shit in making it. Cartoon Network declined and oversell Ben Ten. In 2011, they were unwatchable.
I did not realized that there are women dumb enough to be in bdsm.
A lot nicer to read less clickbaits and a thought-out essay for a statement rather than the attention economy we have now where every morons in the world is "quoting out of context.

What would meta-nostalgiafagging even be like?

Hair metal needs to comeback though.

...

I don't think there's not much to be nostalgic for the 2000s, except maybe the rise of the superhero film genre and the video games.

There will be no nostalgia in the future. Were just going to rehash the internet again and again.

I wonder how (((hollywood))) would portray the early years of the internet. I can't really think of how they would manage to include in diversity in that but they'll find a way.

...

RIP

pfft, newfag.

God, I remember using that so much… all the shitty .mp3's and .avi files. Thank god for torrenting and being much more internet savvy. I was behind most of my peers getting home internet (I don't think I had it until early 2007ish).

Fresh Prince in Bel Air was never good. It only had a "wacky" theme-opening that was way funnier than every episode they made.

pfft, newfag.

Order of release: Napster (1999), Limewire (2000), Kazaa (2006).

bullshit. I definitely remember using Kazaa in grade school, so around 2003 at the latest

Either way it is newer to limewire and napster

Napster was a massively big deal back then. I remember leaving the comp on overnight like everybody else so we could download songs on a 56kbps modem. Later upgraded to a 1.2mbps cable modem and whole fucking albums were downloaded at once.

You could even queue songs too and I remember some faggot from Japan queuing my entire music folder partition (1000+ songs) and sucking that shit 10 songs at a time. I cut him off since he was hogging all the bandwidth and never once said thank you (you could instant message people over napster back then)

Wasn' t long till someone came out with a patch to download files other than mp3s and that's when the movie piracy boom really took off (you could only download mp3s on Napster at the beginning).

And then Metallicock and Dre started whining loudly and the rest is history.

To clear that up for both of you, it was first released in 2001.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Napster

LITERALLY 10 SECONDS ON WIKIPEDIA

Oh and little known fact : P2P shit wore down your harddisks real fast since you were sharing your entire folders and there was so much uploading and downloading from everybody on the planet.

man, that takes me back

OP here. I've been through it all, stock, rockbox, HD mod, etc etc…

today my main use is an ipod 6th gen nano, a beauty in physical and design aesthetics that I've been using for about 6 years straight now. I avoid smart phones, linking smart phones with earbuds and bluetooth earbuds.. any wireless devices… i stick with my 2010 era ipod nano 6th gen which requires physical link to the PC and personal sync with files… no spotify, youtube music… no streaming. files i have on my hard drive, playlists i customize, audiobooks, podcasts, everything thought about, selected, then my ipod device physically connected to my PC and all my 'upload' choices done through mouse clicks and transfer thru USB. it's, in 2017, an old school way, and my consciousness of its old-ness jst makes me more obstinate

Stupid question (pls no bully, tech illiterate) - don't we mostly still use hard disks? I know SSDs are a thing.

I've only had SSDs for the past four years

Hdds are still cheaper so most people still use them. The only advantage of SSDs are immunity to shock and magnets.

If the SSD fails, data recovery is much, much harder.

Mah nigga

Frank's Adventure was hentaikino

I'm the same as your second paragraph there. Just swap the Nano with an iPod Touch. I got a 3rd Gen one second hand way back in like 2009. Then around early 2014 or so the headphone jack went all fucky and music would play through the external speakers at a blaring volume even if the headphones were plugged in. Went and got a 5th Gen but I hated the default iOS (especially for using my podcasts) so I took it back and "downgraded" to a 4th Gen which came with the iOS that was last available on my 3rd Gen that I loved. Gonna be 25 in a week and I've still never owned a cell phone.

and they're like 300 times faster

Oh yeah, that too.

...

...

my brother
it represents disconnection and obstinance, in my case and probably yours though who knows.

it's about what you grew up with and being ultra-modern, linked to 4G and a wifi capable device that can both stream locally and from your cell carrier service full speed internet ….or being ultra 2000s and deciding for yourself that you aren't going to be part of the 'stream' culture, the 'cloud' culture…

i (again 32) remember napster, 56k, when slowly downloading onto your own hard drive was a tangible act of rebellion. i can't shake that feel man, no cloud can give me that high, no stream service. as i write this i'm on soulseek, playing a song on repeat from an album 6 years old i have on mp3 on my disk

It's not even me trying to rebel. I just honestly like my iPod touch. I never have to worry about the issues that come with a phone (the cost, having people wanting to text with me, etc.) And when I see people out in public with their faces buried in their phones, I don't know, I just don't want to become like that. I remember back in the day when my ex got a Blackberry as her first phone. She almost immediately got to be one of those aforementioned people and looked like she was about to have a heart attack if she ever forgot to take her phone out with her even if she'd only be gone for a few hours.

As for streaming/clouds - I don't know why I'd want to deal with it, you know? Why not be sure that I have high quality, locally stored stuff ON ME? Relying on streaming and whatnot just seems like putting all of your eggs in one basket. All of the music, TV shows, movies, etc. are all here on my computer and backed up on a 2TB external hard drive. And it's not like keep an external around is expensive or anything. I have a lot of stuff saved (at least more so than like 99% of people) and I'm only just now under 100 free gigs on my media hard drive (… and I may have a few more for the pornpocalypse). Yeah, something could happen like a natural disaster fucking my shit up but I'll take my chances.

Fuck you! Uncle Phil ruled!

obviously you, you stupid motherfucker.

>>>Holla Forums

>>>/retard/

Basically this

Also storage size. They're making leaps and bounds but when SSDs first hit the market the largest SSD you could get was something ridiculously small like 250GB. In the next 5 or so years, when they eventually do catch up, I sense a mass-migration occurring but until that moment does happen, HDDs are basically the way to go for now. They're essentially in the same position VHS tapes were once DVD launched.

hair metal was pure garbage

Wrong.

literally the shittiest hair metal band of the period, end your life

you can't because the monoculture is over, 90s was THE LAST decade of it. now it's multicultural, different religions and holidays, a handful of tv shows and movies at most but mostly people just doing hteir own thing in their own communities

yay diversity

What did he mean by this?

Noughties kids will be too busy taking the BBC while watching their wives get pounded by rapefugees and loving it to complain.

Glam was a product of the 70's, Bowie, trex, New york dolls etc with an emphasis on huge amounts of makeup and gaudy clothes. 80's hair metal was a toned down version of this, hence the distinction between glam and hair "rock".
Fucking melenni

I would not call it a "classic" era. Nostalgia, sure. But it certainly is not classic, and 98% of what was created/happened will be mostly forgotten in 200 years.

they're both the same shit and you should be ashamed for listening to that garbage
grunge was less cringy that that

Degeneracy is when we slide backwards.

how so?

Enjoy paying for fucking commercials in the fucking music you don't own.

It's DRM of the highest caliber. Like Steam. Software as a service. You don't own your data. The cloud can't be trusted.

Why Homestar Runner came back

fuck the ipod classic. rockbox is a pain in the ass to install. i have owned 120gb ipod classics several years ago. without fail, the HDDs would corrupt in less than a year and they become useless.

what you need is a sansa clip+ with a 120gb micro sd card and rockbox. there is nothing better.

sorry i meant to say i owned 3 of them and they were 160gb, not 120 IIRC.

JUST

Le 90s kids need to gassed.

Considering nostalgia fagging already happened in the 00s, we'll start seeing it soon.

Good.
Kill yourself.

Kill yourself

Nigger it's music as cloud data that can be taken down at a moments notice. You don't control any of it.

You are the goodest of goys user.

...

i never said grunge wasn't cringy, i said it was less cringy than faggy glam/hair rock shit
learn to read glam fagboy

No, it's just as cringey especially when you have bands like Pearl Jam who spent their whole career being virtue signalling cucks while making awful music. Stay mad, 90s cuck.

probably be more like old hippies reminiscing about how cool it was to fight The Man

I have a 60gb ipod video from 2006 that I fell onto during a bike crash so ahrd it crushed the LCD. A few years ago I replaced the LCD from another old ipod of similar model of my brothers, got a new battery on amazon.

To this fucking day, just yesterday, the original decade old hard disk still works without any problems.

lol when i was 15 i legit went on yahoo charooms looking for guys. i got called jailbait but I was literally a 15 year old looking for pics and maybe sex with other men

Why do we associate nihilism with grunge and goth/emo/metal stuff?

Nick Mullen the comedian and host of podcast is 28 or 29 now, so he grew up in the 90s and early 2000s. He is as legit depressed and nihilistic as it gets. I remember he said his outfits were loose blue jeans and a hoodie with sneakers, usually skate shoes.

I (a depressive withdrawn chan posting asshole) always thought associating with a musical group or genre or putting effort into your stuff was the gayest shit. When Nick gave that description he described exactly how I got through high school and I think he nailed the uniform of the post gen-x (grunge, flanel etc), millennial version nihilism, which is upgraded version

I remember iMesh and Emule back in highschool. Everyone would say Limewire/Kazaa was a trap and not to use it. iMesh was shit, but man you could find tons of shit on Emule back then. Fired it up in 2012 again and you still sort of could.

Believe it or not some people like music regardless of labels, especially ones that are meaningless. According to you roxy music, guns and roses, david bowie and poison are all the same genre. Even more naive is the idea that so-called "grunge" bands like alice In chains and pearl jam (then called mother love bone) weren't all hair metal before nirvana made it acceptable for them to stop.

Bet if I asked you to post a "not cringey" band it would probably be some scandinavian faggots in halloween costumes growling edgy shit about rotting corpses.

best shit ever

what part of "don't need to store anything except the app" do you not understand?

still less cringy than this

fag

...

Can't wait to see those chicks get blacked

what part of "paying for music you don't own or control" do you not understand?

I guess it would be the part where any of that matters

People are nostalgic about the Scarface-remake.

people already are. When I think back to the early 2010s I want to kill myself because of how shit my life's become.

...

Apply this logic to your house. Obviously my example is way more important but you get the premise. Allowing for the possibility of something being taken away on a whim when you could have kept it isn't a smart plan.

music ≠ house

I can tell that you stopped reading after the very first sentence.

fine, I read the whole post now. for me the convenience of not having to store anything is bigger than the inconvenience of occasionally losing acces to some song.

I have the 6th gen 128gb iPod Touch, and I'm the same way. I can't stand the streaming/cloud meme that's being pushed by the music industry. I want all my storage to be local, no exceptions, which means I still actually buy my own music, which my coworkers are shocked by. I would have stuck with my old device for a few more years, but my iTunes library that I've accumulated over the past decade is just too massive, so I went all out. Still wish it could match the capacity of the Classic, though.

Also, there's just something nice about having a device with most of the modern features of a smartphone without the usual crap that comes with it. I just use a cheap $15 flip phone for simple communication.

I've been thinking about buying one of these to replace my nano 6th G.

I read a guy in comments say his nano died and he bought one as a replacement. I just want to be able to wirelessly upload music to a very small, music-only ipod. This seems perfect if a bit bulky compared to ipod nano

hey there grandpa

ah, Winamp. It really kicked the llama's ass.

I have fond memories of winamp. If I still kept mp3s I'd use it. I remember going on winamp skin hunts and loading my playlists with a bunch of faggy embarassing shit like anime theme songs and evangelion skins.

You can always become a hot daddy, you know. Lots of young people are into that these days.

>(((they))) were trying to poz up the country hardcore back then but it didnt land well because most people had parents who wouldn't let that shit sink in.

its a shame they have since refined their tactics.

you realize that there is no independent left or right in control of anything, it's all the same cadre of goons masquerading before us; summoned to perform pre-rehearsed skits for the masses, right?

"nothing matters" is just the primer to inject 'dull care' into the population, once you stop caring, they win. So if sabertooth openly brags about turning his kids into tranny sexytoys no one will lift a finger or bat an eye. Instead of sharing our viewpoints to counter this shift with people we have impact and influence upon, they hope we'll just wall ourselves off from everyone else and scoff as it all goes down the drain, seeking only to congregate on our little corner of the internet and type about it.

And still runs fine. When it finally shows it's age, there is always Audacious.

Neo 80s would be pretty cool. That's when things were great. You had arcade machines so you went out with your friends and were social. You had home computers that did cool shit. Vid related.

Would love to get a flip phone, but here, everything is 3G and LTE and I can't find a flip phone that works for with either. Debating on getting the retro Nokia if it releases here.
