They have limited what is socially acceptable to say, limiting dialogue, declaring huge swaths of topics taboo and out of bounds to even THINK about therefore limiting consciousness, demanded subjects were settled and therefore there would be no more discussion, outright presented misleading information to people to force their agenda and denouncing anyone who poked holes in it as some "ist" or another in order to silence them and do as much as they could to socially ostracize them so no one would listen to them… literally everything they accuse Trump of, are things they themselves have been the perpetrators of for years now

I disagree, I'd say 1984 is much more mirror-like to todays standards. Doublethink, conformity, history constantly changing to suit now, total hypnotic/propaganda control, illusion of war, tests of allegiance to Oceania because of said illusion of war, etc.

However, I really do think it could go either way. BNW and 1984 are just as likely to happen for one another, but I think that 1984 is whats happening right now, and it is ultimately why the elite will lose, because they do not go the path of BNW. But I'll be damned if they aren't including some elements of BNW into their 1984 concoction. I believe Huxley stated that 1984 ruled through fear/oppression, but BNW ruled through making everyone blissfully ignorant with soma and the like, which is why BNW would have way more success.
