Its official, DC ran out of stories to adapt into animations

twitter.com/DCComics/status/888613346588712960

Didn't they already did Death and Return of Superman? It was shit though.

Maybe this time we'll get Cyborg Superman?

I'd rather have Emerald Twilight or something, but no non-Batman/Superman/Justice League/Teen Titans ever.

Them remaking it is a great idea! We can have on that's closer the original comic's story!

50% of that comic is Doomsday kicking everyone's ass, the other 50% is Superman being a grim'n'gritty emo with an awful haircut. Oh yeah and there's all the other retarded crap that I tried to purge from my memory.

Superman: Doomsday did it perfectly, it boiled the story down to the essentials and cut out all the superfluous crap that made the original story drag.

To add on, expect it to be like The Killing Joke, where they add a ton of unnecessary backstory and crap that nobody really cares about.

Nah…never did like Superman Doomsday. Besides, Death of Superman is like one huge fight and then they have to do Reign of Superman before Return.

I rather have say…a JLI movie. I wanted to see the old BWA-HA-HA stories on screen. Come on..give the old Blue and Gold something.

And with really shit choppy animation.

Red Hood and the Outlaws movie might be good to have.

tfw when Bizarro will never be on a movie screen

I'll be honest, I would watch the shit out of this if it's a close adaptation unlike last time. Imagine it. 90s justice league. Redhead aussie Luthor. Matrix Supergirl. 90s superboy. Fucking Steel. The Clintons. Seeing the modern fan reaction would be great.

When was black suit Superman ever an emo? If anybody was an emo in that story it was fucking Green Lantern after Toast City

What a completely pointless move

That's actually hilarious

I wish I could take credit for it. It was Bruce Timm's

What's arguably DC's best animated movie?

I'd say Batman Under the Red Hood.

Crisis on Two Earths was fun, but I'd say the best was Red Hood.

Dark Knight Returns animated was solid. Also Phantasm.

Probably the best Batman film ever made.

Under The Red Hood and The Dark Knight Returns were pretty good. I also really liked Green Lantern: First Flight.

I don't think Mask of the Phantasm has aged all that well, TBH.

Am I the only one who's excited for this?

With the current state of their animated films I'm not. Unless they get someone good working on it.

Nah, I think most people are.

It's just that this is Holla Forums, so people are more interested in talking about stuff that will likely suck and not stuff that will most likely be good.

Movie was mediocre, but the soundtrack was god-tier.

Return of the Caped Crusader.

Have they done Kingdom Come yet? Or Crisis on Infinite Earths? How about an animated Watchmen that more closely follows the comics?

I find it extremely hard to believe that DC has so few good graphic novel-length stories that the animation department is already running out of ideas.

Have you missed DC's entire post-flashpoint movie lineup? There's no precedent for this being good.

Assault on Arkham was pretty fucking dumb, but it was also pretty fucking rad.
It sucks how KGBeast was offed so early though.

I think we've watched two different films

Like I said, it was dumb, but it had its moments. Hot chicks and cool action scenes, the little romance between Killer Frost and King Shark, Deadshot pretty much stealing the show
I admit there might be a lot of bias because I watched it right after Suicide Squad and I liked AoA more.

Assault on Arkham was basically Suicide Squad done right.

Yeah, it really puzzles me that DC just seems keen to repeat the same old crap over and over, while ignoring all of the other great stories they have.

Also, while it's hardly a great or even a good story, I'm kinda surprised that DC hasn't tried to do a Blackest Night movie yet.

This won't end well.

Also, they already did this arc back in 2007.

We've got two more days of this shitty event. There better be fucking something about this.

That'd be hilarious. I actually read D&R for the first time a few months ago. I was confused enough about why Kara was there since I thought her post-Crisis debut wasn't for another decade after this story, and I actually had to stop reading and find out who the fuck she was after Doomsday punched her so hard that she turned into jelly.

Shit like that is how you get people to read comics.

I got the same reaction when I read the Death of Superman for the first time.

It doesn't even have to be a good comic to make for a good movie if the adaptation is pragmatic and well-written.

Imagine stories like

But without a ton of expanded universe baggage, editorial meddling or bad writing choices that kept those stories from being fully enjoyable.

Of course, there are a few stories so awful they could never be fixed, because their very concept is shit. Stories like:

Maybe that's the reason DC is recycling ideas that have already worked, because looking back at their biggest events and stories is like drudging through a minefield.

Fucking Matrix was a fucking roller-coaster ride, from beginning to end.

I can't see how any of those would work without the mountains of continuity propping them up.

In what world do you live in which these events don't have 60+ issues of build up and plot?

That makes sense, on account of the original comic definitely not being retarded garbage…

Say what you want about BvS, at least Superman used his incredible Super-intellect to throw Doomsday into space. Contrast the original animated adaptation's truly stupid handling of this.

The only 'correct' way to handle Doomsday is the way the JL cartoon did in his first appearance: Superman gets sick of his shit and ends the fight five minutes in, one way or another. Superman doesn't lose to the Hulk, it's just not happening.

Or Red Son.

i want batman odysey cartoon

I want a feature-length production of Poison Ivy getting gangbanged by every man of consequence in Gotham, but hey, they're never going to animate that either.

...

As much as I want Kingdom Come I'm not sure how they will be able to animate Alex Ross' artwork since that is part of the reason why the comic is so good.

I'm sure there's some CG porn of that.

Personally, I want to see some elseworlds stories get adapted like Dark Knight Dynasty or something. Hell they could even do the Trinity stories that are based off of 30's German Expressionist films. Like there's one where its Superman but based off the film Metropolis.

….Uhm, didn't Superman did that? Threw Doomsday into the Sun..only for Doomsday to come back even stronger and immune to the FUCKING SUN?

I just realized something…every time Doomsday is defeated, he comes back stronger and the shit that works on him the first time doesn't work the next time…Doomsday is a Saiyan on Steroids.

They should really just find the machine that keeps shitting him out and destroy it.

The Hulk is one of the worst written characters in comic book history with quite easily the worst fanbase of any comic book character in comic book history. Even worse than Joker fags. He does not beat Superman.

Here's the thing…it's the same Doomsday from Death of Superman. Sure, they gave him a final end, dropping him off at the End of Time so he can't adapt the death of the universe…only for Braniac's underling to pull him out of the End of Time

And it is true. Hulk couldn't beat Superman…TWICE in fact. One time, Superman no-sells a punch from the Hulk and the other time was in DC vs Marvel.

Just throw him into orbit or something

Apparently he never gets an immunity to not being able to fly

That isn't an argument, Junior.
The Hulk sucks.

If a cosmic powered Spider-Man could fuck up the Hulk there's no reasonable explanation why Superman couldn't

daily reminder

Weren't these things based on reader polls? So if Venom were more popular than Superman, he'd win the fight?

At least "being strongest" is consistent.
Except for the part where he is quite literally infinitely more strong and durable. Superman has no chance at all.

Because Hulk is literally infinite strong. Superman's got nothin

The thing with Venom was part of a sequel to the original Marvel vs. DC starring Access. It wasn't based on reader votes.

Well then, that's especially dumb

There's plenty of Marvel characters as strong or stronger than the Hulk.
Superman's more than capable of throwing him into space, which is what cosmic Spider-Man did

And they're all cosmic, far more powerful than supes even on his best day. But Hulk can still knock them around through sheer strength because he's infinite strong.
That's no "defeat". He just comes back stronger and eventually becomes strong enough to navigate through space through directed thunderclaps at gravity centres.

Yes, that makes sense

Green Lantern TAS was building up to Blackest Night, Season 3 was gonna be Sinestro Corps War and then Season 4 would have concluded with Blackest night.

What a fucking waste.

god, how did marvel allow the hulk to become such an awful character.

He's already trashed the hulk twice, what are you on about.

God, I miss Peter David. He always changed the Hulk around , but it was always interesting and well written. Grey Hulk, Professor, Maestro, you could read them all without cringing.

robot superman did that in the comics. Broke into cadmus, snagged his corpse, calculated a path that wouldn't take him near any star systems for at least a few million years, and tossed him

Have you read Superman lately?

And Venom trashed Superman once. But Superman ain't infinite strong, so he has no chance.

That's pretty fucking debatable.

Is that not the same set of one-shots where Spiderman beat up Superman because he was "imbued with red sun energy"?
These things aren't exactly full of quality character writing.

Well, that's the few times you can get DC and Marvel crossed over…nowadays, they just take potshots.

More people would be excited for these animated movies if they stood on their own, while also still contributing to an overall narrative of the characters in the way JLU did.

Was I the only one who liked TDoSupes as a movier better than the comic.
IMO the comic was a convoluted piece of obvious cashgrab.

Does this means the Nu-52 movies are over, maybe the Rebirth style will start.

They are actually releasing DVD/Bluray+Graphic Novel packs now, you get the movie plus the graphic novel that inspired it. Dark Knight Returns, Year One, etc. I guess those things will become more and more common. I think there's one for BvS too.

yes but it was still crap

it's funny when people complain about this or that adaptation "ruining" Doomsday or the DoSM plot, like it was this classic story and not the most lazy and cynical possible cash grab

I like the Batman Beyond movie.

The orbital strike scene was animated by the same guy who did the orbital strike scene in Akira, and was his attempt at doing the same thing better like 20 years down the road.

God that movie was so good. Probably one of the few good DC animated movies to come out in years.

They actually did do Braniac.

The should just do a comedy horror film. Full feature length cronenberg bizarro justice league movie with like led by Batzarro the worst detective in the world who got shot by his parents as a kid. bizarro flash always arriving late everywhere. Wonderbizarro-woman looking so ugly that people tell the truth just to get her to put the bag back on her head.

That could literally be the most fucking hilarious film ever made

actually wonder trans woman would be very 2017 of them
people would refer to her as him and then it would react with the "did you just assume my gender you shitlord"

Hey Holla Forums.

Let's hear Stan Lee's opinion on the matter.

This video is even worse as he's just trying to appeal to normalfags to watch the movies by saying "lmao aren't comics just stupid xd who needs to read them to understand the characters?"

I liked Judas Contract

And i Like Judas Contract always based around how the ratio of hating Terra/Loving deathstroke is.

Which makes the comic on an unparallel level

...

uhhhhh

this is a fucking animated trilogy right here waiting to be made

I didn't want to make a thread just for that and I needed to vent (for a while now, the series has been over for months.)

Why isn't she in jail? attempted murder, stealing evidence, bio-terrorism, injuring an officer (or more when she broke out), etc.

I don't care how much she banged Gordon, I assume her character was nothing like that in the comics, but her Gotham incarnation deserves jail.

It's a fucking joke you sperg

I don't watch Gotham user.

I'd fuck Morena so bad

Well, you didn't miss much, just a total mutilation of characters, I am not even a comic book reader and I can point to several things that went wrong with the series.

First and foremost, Gordon ends up commiting crimes a lot of the time, the series also suffered from the Smallville love interest syndrome in which the love interest usually ends up getting too much relevance and usually becoming a villain at some point even if temorarily.

Penguin is gay for Nygma, at leas the later one didn't reciprocate, Oswald is also a cripple who also got his nickname for the way he walks.

Leslie meets Bruce like twice in the whole series, never gets the role of surrogate mother to Bruce, she also became the last love interest for Gordon and ended up like Lana Lang in Smallville for the final season in Gotham.

Selina is "meh", Ivy was too young so the writers had an asspull to make her grow faster, for some reason they decided to introduce too many villains prior to Batman's debut which included Freeze, Firefly, and apparently Killer Croc, turns out all the freaks or mutants in this version come from something called Indian Hill that was a pet project of Hugo Strange by order of the Court of Owls which was exterminated by Ra's Al ghul who in the end was the one pulling the strings to movitave Bruce to become Batman… somehow.

She is super hot, but her character was atrocious.

Wow, I'm glad I didn't watch the show it sounds like a clusterfuck. Thanks for explaining that horrid show user.

I wish they would do Contagion/Legacy. That shit was cash.

Contagion/Legacy just didn't do it for me. An abridged NML adaptation might be half-interesting though.

So he killed all the sun citizens?
