I live in Burgerland and where I grew up there was a system that did both nuclear disaster tones, and tornadoes (also air raid but that never gets used). One Wednesday a month at 10AM it used to test the nuclear siren. This was exactly during music/choir class in elementary school.

I thinkthe reason why at least in America most names that end with a "berg" or a "stein" is because initially the only people in Germany that were named after a place were the nobility, while the common folk were named after their professions. Of course Jews had no profession as such, and naming themselves "merchant" a "usurer" probably didn't appeal to them, so they often took up a place-name as their family names. Since names derived from the aristocracy were relatively rare, and the descendants of aristocracy probably weren't very likely to move to America, most of the "berg"s and "stein"s that arrived in America were Jews.
