I Get the point he is trying to make and I think people are overreacting here. Zizek has basically said this same thing only with a large amount of word salad inbetween. Putting the utopian cart before the horse is the basic argument with a bit of false equivalency.

Let's imagine for a second though they're completely right. I'm sure even if you agree with one of the positions the thought has occurred to you when hearing the arguments sound similar. Communism hasn't worked because "State capitalism," and "capitalism hasn't worked because crony capitalism" The funny thing is there is similarities and there is good cause to draw alarm bells at the comparisons. The problem is to conclude that both are just goofy and utopian is the wrong way to approach it. Maybe the problem is they both hint at major problems at the current worlds incentive structures and rather than saying they're both wrong we can appeal to peoples common sense of something being deeply unsatisfying with this world as it is and start working towards a solution.

That is kind of my problem with:liberals in general they try to come up more and more ways to sit and laugh at the competition than try and see where there might be similarities and ways to win.
