I think it has more to do with some of us knowing how to determine which forums and such people frequent by subtle cues here and there. It's not hard to figure out if someone is from reddit, halfchan (old or new), and so on. You can even figure out which board someone normally goes on based on this and that. I'm sure it disturbs them greatly how easy it is for us to not only pick them out but figure out that much about them with a few posts.

I think part of the problem is that they have some misconception of how people speak on here.
