Rocko’s Modern Life reboot gets title, original cast

Rocko is one of the very few Nick cartoons I feel that was ever actually good.

I want this to have Rocko as an overweight bachelor who spends most of his free time bitching about the state of the world online.

Wait, in the final episode Future Schlock, didn't Rocko/Heffer get lost in space via rocket in 1996, (present day) then Filberts now grown up kids went and examined Rocko's house to find out what happened (15+ years into the future with flying cars and tech) and then the rocket came back with Rocko and Heffer. Filbert's kids then activated the rocket again which then caused it to take off and then crash through Rocko's house causing it to fly into space with all the characters onboard.
So does the "reboot" term now mean they changed the fucking ending so it rectons the second half of this story?

Nickelodeon spent the last 20 years making a bad name for itself in the industry.

No doubt the show will suck since its basically putting a focus on "CURRENT YEAR" business and Rocko forcing to convert to the new status quo rather than the show just being about friends getting into hijinks. It actually does look good! And a pretty decent homage to the original series opening sequence. The "reboot" sign followed by the pummeling of facebook style dislikes was a nice self aware touch.

The needlessly large amount of referential humor is worrisome and makes me hope this doesn't delve into FG territory, even though it most like will. Also the presence of Buzzbucks makes me worried that they'll use it to replace Chokey Chicken because its too "adult" even though these fucks can probably get away with something dumb like gay representation and people will think its amazing for it even though they got a way with gay jokes and a gay elephant in the old show too.

Although I will say that the art looks great and am glad its not flash. But honestly, this whole thing would work better as a movie or a special rather than a full on show.

They've been trying to do the same with TMNT and the Loud House to a lesser degree but I'm honestly not seeing as much interest for the latter, and it seems TMNT is losing its buzz.

I feel like some of the commentary is too heavy-handed to the point of being meaningless, but a lot of it is really good. RRRBM having a gritty 3D movie is fucking perfect. Getting food poisoning from a ridiculous gimmicky foodtruck is spot on… but radioactive energy drinks? 3D printing comic books? Falls flat.

I'd prefer the latter, but we're at a point where good reboots are necessary to move ahead.

After watching it again, just realized that Buzzbucks seem to be in nearly every background shot, the drone says NSA, and there lots of electric cars with giant batteries on their roofs. And one of the animals at the theater is a giraffe.

3D printed comic book is strange (or possible print on demand for trashy book industry reference?) but is probably there to give a plot reason why Rocko is out of a job instead of being fired for not showing up to work for 20 years.

Sad truth. Brand recognition is simply a necessity to reach the masses. Reboots use an old name to draw attention. If something is a hit, it's popularity can be used to sell something new by using VA star power, etc.

When scheduled television wasn't an already obsolete dinosaur on life support, you could throw a new thing in the time slot right after the big name. I guess now they'd use recommendations on Hulu/netflix or something.

That last point is the biggest problem, really. Executive meddling is often what takes the wind out of the sails of a lot of shows, usually by freaking out over ratings and shitcanning it before it's even half done.. or freaking out over ratings and demanding 10 seasons even though the creator wanted to tell a tight, contained story in 2 seasons.

At any rate, the market isn't adapting as fast as it should, and stupid people are making the decisions with an out of date mindset that presumes they need to trick people into spending way more money than they should to enjoy something that they've dumbed down and wrapped up in a familiar package.

The main thing that stuck out to me is that, despite the animation being better than 99% of American cartoons aired nowadays, it's still lackluster and nothing compared to the original.
