Remember the episode where Homer became afraid Bart might turn gay because they met this gay character who was awkwardly introduced the way every new character was, so Homer spent the entire episode trying to make sure Bart grew up straight, and angrily proclaimed at a steel mill "You're all gay!" while dragging Bart out and covering his eyes as the entire plant descended into a gay leather bar?

That was a great classic episode because it was ironic, unlike NuSimpson's blatant propaganda trying to make all children gay.

digital animation was a mistake

literally the only such I can think of is from the ep where Lisa passes off as a college student. S13 I think.

First 5 were undisputable GOATs, if your personal cut off point is before S5 there's something wrong with you
6 - 8 were still very good in their own right but now and then they had a shitty episode like the first gay one in OP's pic
9 - 10 were mostly good and easily had the highest quality animation out of any season, only slimy Redditors have a problem with the Skinner ep
11 - 12 were definitely slipping, and they tested out the digital animation style this season before moving to it for good with S13
13 was unforgivable shit, I'll give you that much but 14 and 15 are where the final pieces of gold lay until the Movie where the last load was saved up and spent accordingly. Great Louse Detective (the one where Grimes Jr. tries to avenge his father), Treehouse of Horror XIV (Death? We don't want any.), I D'ohbot (the Battlebots-style ep) & Simple Simpson (Pie Man) were easily the best episodes the show had had in years and I will fight anyone that says otherwise.
16 is where the show takes a massive downturn and I honestly can't remember anything from it except the one where Bart became a wigger, one of Marge's sisters adopted a chink whereas the other sister turned lesbian and almost married a tranny. I stopped watching early into S17 and didn't pick it up again aside from the film.

Season 1 was them still finding themselves, it was fine but not really GOAT worthy.

Yeah, I agree, just bundled it in with the other 4 for convenience. Best episode of that first bunch was Krusty Gets Busted and even then the animation looked very low quality and disjointed (see video related for the worst example), not to mention the weird voices. Homer, Wiggum and Skinner in particular sounded nothing like the way we remember them, almost as though they had different VAs for those first couple of seasons.

For anyone wondering my personal favorite season was 5. Almost every episode that year became an instant classic the second it aired.

Not the same user, but the only moments that gave me a chuckle were the 12 steps, and the 6/10 rating(this one, because it reminded me of vidya reviews).

I'd say there are some watchable episodes in 11-12 but only about 50% of them, and the others are painful (Kid Rock and so forth).

They should have aged up the characters, Bart especially doesn't work outside of a 90's context. No modern kids can relate to these characters.
