Good point with your first part, it's more a cynical kneejerk reaction by me, but I've met a lot of people who are aware the Establishment infiltrate everything they can. It's in Germany's interest to infiltrate these organisations and derail them with dirty tricks.
It doesn't take many people to steer the direction of them, it's not like they have to become a particularly large portion of the hierarchy to start steering them in whatever direction they please.
