What are the odds that Trump will actually be able to bring any jobs back to the US?
Why should companies hire in the US and pay high wages instead of going to China or India?

Trump will do the standard neoconservative economic bullshit so the answer is that he will accelerate the misery of Americans, just like every other Republican administration's specific policies have done.
lmao
Well we get paid slightly higher slave wages than China and India but still that's enough to make companies not want to hire in the US.
Let's have a politician willing to put all of their eggs in one basket and go balls deep in promoting technology and trades jobs and positions. Mandatory programming courses and/or introductions one year before highschool, and encourage it from then on.
I'm aware, I'm just scoffing cause whenever I hear people claim wages are too high here it's usually accompanied with "stop whining and get a real job.
The only problem i have with that mentality is it assumes everyone possess the mental aptitude to be a programmer or some sort of specialist and we know that's not true.
And if everyone by some miracle did posses the brains and the desire for it are there really enough specialized jobs for 300 million people?
...
...
no, not really
I think Toyota or Mitsubishi actually has a completely worker-less factory now. They don't even need to turn the lights on.
God dammit user, now I cannot unsee it
Small.
Trump, like all businessmen, has been little more than a parasite. He doesn't have the first clue how to "create jobs", he's just riding on neoliberal mythology.
kek. You mean "not using what is in effect slave labor in everything but name".
But, yes, the de facto slave labor corporations are able to use abroad is so lucrative, they're unlikely to go back to the old way. Even if they were forced, by law, to produce all their goods in the United States, they'd still try to find some way to get cheap labor or otherwise saturate the labor pool.
Bonus points if said person has some cushy office job.
practically none, I wouldn't be surprised if he actually lost jobs for americans.
wtf I love Trump now
Zero. The man says a bunch of populist rhetoric to make whites feel better about themselves, then reveals his economic plan to literally be trickle-down Reaganomics, just like every other fucking Republican.
Under a """"free market"""", wages shouldn't rise in the USA when labor remains cheaper in another nation. The only way 'middle class' wages will return is if ultranationalists/fascists come to power, or if a socialist revolution occurs.
so the latter will then
...
1 tariffs on china and mexico would hurt the american companies that invested in production there, so repubs will never let it happen
2 chinas economy has been running on a construction boom since 2008, as demand for manufactured goods has fallen dramatically since the crash, so there isn't a market to take from them anyway
3. companies have started bringing factories back to the US, but they only employ highly educated technicians who don't do physical labor, as the factories are so automated they can run in the dark
They won't, they'll either die off, which leads to depression, or be forcibly nationalized, which retarded rightists will apologize for, because Trump.
You cant protect the workers of a country and have capitalism at the same time without creating antagonism.
So either trump, in order to keep his promise, will have to nationalize industry to create jobs , which he won't do, or he needs to create a socialist-esque economic system where he removes the cause of the antagonism, which he won't do.
So no real chance.
Tariffs.
Same thing that made the US industrialize in the first place.
Same thing that EVERY industrial nation industrialized with, actually. Places like China use them today so we can't export most products to them, while demanding free access to western economies.
Very smart move on chinas part. Bring in masses of foreign capital, employing its massive population, while cutting off as much outgoing money as possible, increasing the value of its own currency, increasing internal demand, building up a self-contained economy with lots of capital.
The CPC may not be socialist, but they know what they are doing.
They are socialist.
let's not go too far
don't tell me socialisms is when the government does stuff
Production for exchange can still be socialist.
But china has no worker control.
...
That's if you use kikel marx's definition of socialism.
Well ye im a marxist and im going by the most common definition to judge a country that claims to be marxist.
What are you studying?
Computer science?
Why this question.
Just making conversation.
Ok?
He's checking if you've ever left education and gone into the real world.
'sall good my man. Do you have a part time job, or parents paying, or what kinda thing you have going on?
Why wouldn't he nationalize industries?
Let's not derail thread or resort to ad hominem attacks
It's not an ad hom, it's just a fact that if he had to work for a living he wouldn't be a marxist.
and why is that
Wat
Fuck you. I'd hate to sit through some specialized education like for coding in high school. We don't train kids how to be plumbers or electricians in fucking high school, why should programming any different?
There's a difference in doubting Trump will be able to do what he says and actually thinking Trump isn't trying to create jobs. I don't get why people say he's neoliberal when he really is trying to create more jobs
So this isn't exactly job destruction, it's just opening up a bigger job market. There's already not enough STEM jobs, this will create more of them
Uh, working minimum wage turned me into a Marxist.
Because he is a populist and the free market is the core of right wing populism in America.
???
Working for a living is what made me a Marxist.
He's probably American where "Marxist" is the latest maymay word for anyone you dislike.
I've worker a manual labour job full time for minimum wage too mate.
Very basic python programming is far from specialized education and it will help you in your job if you have to do any kind of job with a bit of data processing or computers. The basics of programming should be thought in a general skills class just like "how do I install a power outlet" and "cooking healthy tasty food for dummies" imo.
If you really like programming you can then delve into all the abstract and exact shit that it has to offer.
